Hi Ed002,
Have United considered Danny Ings as a potential striker if Cavani were to leave.

And is Pedro Gonzalves an option for United?

{Ed002's Note - (a) Not that I am aware. (b) I have explained about Goncalves before.}

I think he would be a great signing. Consistent goal scorer and would not cost the earth.

salford consistent? he's had 1 good season in the 8 years he's been in the prem. if anything he has been consistently poor

if we want to get back to the heights of winning things these below par players need to be avoided.

can you really see ings going to city as an aguero replacement, me thinks they are trying to trigger some sky betting odds.

He'd be an interesting option. Solid EPL player, well rounded goal threat and at an age where he won't be a long term barrier to Greenwood.

The only real concern is that he has had some injury concerns in the past. But as long as he is fully over them then it shouldn't be a serious concern.

Really, Ings as Manchester United's main striker?
I did chuckle at this then remembered that if Cavani leaves that means Martial will be up top.
Then I stopped chuckling.

Spenno, the reality is who can we get and at what price?

Haaland and Mbappe will go for too much and will have better options than us, so we can strike them off the list.

Aguero wouldn't cross the city.

Lewandowski won't leave Bayern.

Messi and Ronaldo are pipe dreams and in reality too old anyway.

Harry Kane would cost a fortune but in many ways would be ideal, but will just be almost impossible to buy from Spurs.

Suarez is past it and should be avoided for obvious reasons.

None of of direct EPL rivals will really sell to us.

Immobile does well in Italy but has flopped when he has left.

Lukaku would be a backward step.

Benzema is a possibility maybe if Real Madrid get either Haaland or Mbappe. But he's 33, has never played in the EPL and has had bad publicity (acquitted of sex with an underage prostitute) .

Lautaro Martinez is another one who we could possibly look at, but again he would be expensive and it would be a battle with other teams he might prefer to join. Certainly not an easy signing to get over the line.

Beyond those players we could look at players like Andre Silva who has had a great year in Germany after a good year with Porto 5 years ago, followed by year in Italy with AC Milan where he failed to impress, then a year in La Liga with Sevilla where he failed to impress, he then did okay in Germany with Franfurt before making the permanent move there last summer and having a great year this year. Clearly talented but has struggled at a couple of sides since leaving Portugal, could be considered a journey man.

Luka Jovic is another we could look at, but again a player who flopped at a big club with Real Madrid.

There aren't a host of great options out there and we would face serious competition from teams that could offer a better chance to win things than us for the few options that might be available.

Mbappe is a pipe dream I agree. But I don’t think Haaland is completely out of the question. It’s unlikely, but it wouldn’t surprise me.
Jimenez wouldn’t be a bad shout, I don’t know if he’s expected to return soon. Obviously less likely than it might have been.
I’ve not even heard of Andre Silva, but his name is doing the rounds a fair bit.
Eduard? Giroud? I imagine if Cavani leaves and Chelsea spend a billion pounds on new players, he’d fit the void United fill with ageing target men.

Andre Silva has been in great form and will likely lead the line for Portugal at the euro’s, if we were going for him we need to do so before the euro’s.

Haaland will not be happening, 002 has said this countless times.

Does anyone on this site really know for sure what will happen with any deals? I doubt it very much.

With the money the club makes we should be able to buy Mbappe and Haaland.

Utd Road, they would cost 100-200m each. Potentially as much as one third of our debt. While that's without agents fees, taxes and wages.

Maybe we could afford to sign one of them if we only spent on them and didn't buy any other players. But that really wouldn't help us that much.

Besides there is a more important reason for us not being able to sign them. Quite simply neither of them want to play for us.

So it's not really worth even pursuing.

We could just wait until June 2022 and pay the £65m release clause then.

Wouldnt be surprised to see us sign an hasbeen striker on a one year contract to tie us over until then.

{Ed077's Note - its actually a termination clause; not a release clause. Or else it wouldnt matter to foreign clubs like us.}

It has Giroud written all over it.

Ings is at an age that he isn't a long term barrier to Greenwood. Why not just play Greenwood up front from next season? why would they bother with Ings - never rated him beyond one good season. Greenwood is clearly good enough if not a little underwhelming vs last year

If Cavani doesn't stay, why not take a (probably relatively cheap) punt on someone like Odsonne Edouard from Celtic? - not a terrible finisher, contract runs out in 2022 relatively young at 23.

Ings? Seriously? Crikey we’ve fallen far.

What is Henrik Larrson doing now?
