Rumours of Ole getting a new contract. Is there any truth to this?

Does the board believe in him and would allow more money to be spent on players? Are we falling into the same trap where we trust and sign players to improve the squad and in the end the manager fails and the new manager has a cleaning up job to do in order to get new players in?

Hope a few in the board see some sense and don't mess around anymore.

I think the board will at least wait until the end of the season and will almost certainly not be in a rush to hand him a new contract.

I'd imagine that since Utd have gone from 1st to send place with a 14 point gap between the two places might just have the board thinking he might not be good enough.

On paper, given our current form we could very easily lose all our games in March. Although I do expect us to turn things around. Leicester will benefit from not being in the EL. Ogs will play a strong team in the EL. His inability to rest key players his a worry, I do fear at the end of the season we may have a team that has run out of juice.

You just need to ask "what constitutes success for the board and the owners they work for? "

While Ole might in the eyes of most fans be the worst manager we have had since Sir Alex, he looks set to be the only one to manage successive top four finishes.

Since pretty much all past United managers have been sacked when the club failed to achieve a top four finish, I think its clear what the club's ambition is.

The club are already putting out stories to dampen fans expectations in the summer transfer market. Historically they have always spent significantly less in the summers after UCL qualification has been secured. This year they get to do it but blame the C.V. for hitting finances (which it definitely has) .

We are a cash cow for our owners, their ambition is simple only invest enough to keep the money rolling in. That's why there is no investment in the stadium, as it doesn't increase revenue. They'll spend on players when they have to in order to get top four.

We are Arsenal now. Get used to it. No doubt at some point Ole will get the sack, maybe next season if he doesn't get top four, or the year after if he does. Basically he will be our manager until we fail in the eyes of the owners.

Then the next guy will come in and he'll be tasked with the same remit, get top four and keep your job. If you can win a cup or even a title then great. But they won't getting financial backing in the years they make top four, so sustained success seems unlikely.

" worse manager by most fans "?
On thus site, don't mistake this site for an example if the majority of united fans.

Jred, i bet its more than 70% worldwide. OGS should consider himself lucky there are no fans at OT. When the fans do come back and OGS is still in charge, there would be singing but the music will be drowned by the sound of snoring.

Shappy i wouldn't say he looks set to get top 4 again if results go against us this weekend. we could be right in the dog fight of top 4 with 2nd to 7th only having 6 points difference and 3 of those teams have a game in hand on us also with 1/ 4 of a season left to play.

Sadly, I think that the board views top four as a success; as evidenced by the huge disparity between our net spends when we do and don’t qualify for the Champions League. I’m sure the board would love for the team to win silverware, but they damn sure don’t want to spend the kind of money required for us to do so.

It strikes me very much as short term thinking, as while Manchester United may still be a big draw to potential sponsors right now, a few more trophyless seasons and continued boring performances will change all of that pretty quickly. The next generation of potential fans will have very little interest in supporting a side like ours and as they grow into their roles as consumers, the big sponsors will follow their lead.

Good post Shap’s!

Redseven - I’m not so sure mate Spurs built themselves a solid reputation by just consistently finishing in the top 4 under Potch. Would they have built that fantastic new stadium if they had been finishing mid table so commercially it can be considered a success for some Clubs but surely this can never be tolerated at Man Utd.

Anyway I think the evidence is staring us in the face. The football is no better, results remain inconsistent Ole has always been nearer the sack than turning us into a decent outfit. In my opinion we’ve been dragged back into a dog fight for top 4 and following our Champions League capitulation I couldn’t say with any confidence that we won’t throw it away. Having said that what does finishing in the top 4 actually mean for us fans? We didn’t even get out of the group stage this season and the board have already said they’ll be no money available for transfers this summer. It probably safeguards revenue and sponsorship for the Club but it doesn’t mean we’ll be able to compete next year.

I’m depressed we’re not going anywhere quick and if the best we can look forward to is Champions League football whilst playing safe, percentage football to achieve it watching Liverpool and City winning the major honours then welcome to purgatory, welcome to the post SAF apocalypse, welcome to Manchester United.

If the purse strings are to be tightened next year, then is it not even more imperative that we have a coach who is actually good at coaching and improving players?

I second that notion Mumbles. Get rid of the "INEPT ONE". Get a proper coach.

I strongly suspect manager severance packages are tied in to UCL qualification. Ergo if we finish top 4 it would likely cost more to sack the manager.

But like I said, it really doesn't matter what style we play to the owners. They don't watch the matches, they just want the money that UCL qualification brings in, along with the tied in sponsorship deals.

As long as the manager achieves that he will be here as our manager.

{Ed014's Note - long may it continue 😉

I think the 'United are Arsenal now' comment is spot on. None of us like it but the reality for a long time has been winning silverware is not imperative from the owners perspective. We are having a strange season in that we are capable of scoring 9 but yet conceding 6. We all know we are a way short on quality at CB and arguably need to buy 2 class CBs whereas financially we will struggle to get one. I do think a settled defensive triumvirate (Henderson - Maguire - then Torres or Varane) would transform this side offensively also. And that for me is the key position we have to fill. Any thought of buying Sancho, Haaland or Grealish is just a pipe dream though. The view will be Amad on RW and Greenwood at CF will save us £150-200m which we just don't have to spend. The only way I see us buying anyone is if we can generate some cash from De Gea, Martial and Pogba leaving. Achieving Top 4 is our minimum requirement given the Champions League revenue it generates but providing Ole achieves that I don't think he is going anywhere.

We might be Arsenal but Arsenal are more like Stoke, mid table obscurity.

Agree with GDS2 here, Arsenal are a weaker squad with a manager no better than our own. Have a bit of respect for us 😂.

Okay, I'll revise that, we are Arsenal of 10 years ago. A declining club that used to challenge for titles, but now it's main aim is the top four trophy 😂.

God arsenal would probably be very lucky to achieve top four on current form. I think shappy was referring to the old arsenal, when they where a decent side.

{Ed077's Note - they would probably want a open top, bus parade if that happened😂😂

77 😂 😂 😂

It does make me laugh though how Ole cops a lot of stick while Arteta quietly continues to underachieve and gets away with it.

{Ed077's Note - because sadly for them, their standards have fallen so far that its not that relevant anymore. Thats just the proof that accepting mediocrity for long period just ends up making you bang average.

God. Please don't let that happen to us 🙏, just being content with top four is not enough🤔😡 hopefully the glaziers have enjoyed the success of TNEP and push for some for us.
