BBC now reporting the next player the club are looking to get in is Longstaff from Newcastle.

I'm excited to see what some of these lads are capable of. The 'world class' signings haven't worked out for us in recent years so maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised with the likes of Daniel James and Longstaff.

{Ed002's Note - Sean Longstaff (DM) has been identified by OGS and his folks as a target but the player has apparently some concerns about leaving the wastelands of the North East for the wastelands of the North West - this will likely be a worry about getting game time - and a big step down from interest in Declan Rice.

More worryingly MEN are reporting that we might not recruit a CB!

Ed2 what is latest on Declan Rice? Media talk seems to have dried up.

{Ed002's Note - He won't be moving to Manchester United.}

Cool, cheers Ed.

I'm sure if the lad is good enough he'll end up being the Matic replacement, plenty of games during the season to give him time.

But it's also good that he's worried about game time, shows that he has the right kind of mindset instead of just following the money.

Maybe a Buy - Loan back deal could be done?

Thanks so much for extra info there Ed002, it’s akways an exciting moment of the day to find red writing transfer news on the site!

Thus apologies for asking for further clarity on the point you make about Longstaff being a big step down in interest for Declan Rice: does this mean that Rice is more of a desired target for United than Rice (this Lingstaff further down the “list”) or does it mean lingstaff would be a step down in terms of quality?

Thanks again for your precious time!

{Ed002's Note - Rice was very much a target and is seen as a very good talent indeed. Sean Longstaff has played a handful of first class games but is liked enough by OGS and his chums and Liverpool will certainly be open to cashing in.}

Agree with Ed2. If the cost is significant I believe we will overpay for a relatively untested player. Better out there for the mooted price in my opinion.

I was at the Newcastle v cardiff game just after xmas.
Cant judge a player on 1 game but he really played well, has a lot of very good attributes.
On the flip side it was only 1 game .

Thanks for quick answer Ed002 - guess you’re suggesting Liverpool will benefit by some sort of sell on clause.

Personally, I feel we need a player of Rice’s qualities more, as Matic needs phasing out, but Longstaff looks like a good bet for the future.

{Ed002's Note - Sorry, it should have said Newcastle (now corrected).}

We need someone to rotate alongside Matic.
We seemed to overplay him in the last 2 seasons.
Also, I didn't know much about Declan Rice until he faced us. He had unbelievable energy, covering a lot of ground.
His passing is decent as well. Needs some improvement though.

Seems odd when so much expected of James Garner and Dylan Levitt.

I heard Longstaff is good at pressing so maybe an indication on playing style intention next season.

27 Jun 2019 14:44:11
I think the intention is to snap him up this summer for around 25m rather than wait until he has a breakout season next season then have to pay 50-60m next summer.

However, this is a risk as he might not have a breakout season next year.

In the EPL my preference would be for Neves or Rice.

We need a holding midfielder to rotate with Matic and eventually replace him in the starting line-up.

{Ed001's Note - Longstaff is quality, look after him and you have an excellent player there.}

I’d prefer Ndidi, he’s brilliant.

Ed001,

I think half the problem is his name, if he was had a foreign name people would love the signing. He was good in pretty much all of the games he played for Newcastle and their fans really don't want to lose him, I would be really excited if we signed him, another step in the right direction in the future build.

{Ed001's Note - he was getting better and better as well during the season. He really impressed me. You are right though, it is not as sexy as a foreign youngster.}

13.) 27 Jun 2019
27 Jun 2019 16:52:42
He should change his name to Silvio Longastaffinho.

He looks good. Would be a good signing.

I'm sure Ashley will sell. He can then say it'll fund the new managers plans.

27 Jun 2019 17:57:14
Ndidi, is excellent at breaking up play but is very limited on the ball. Gone are the days where you can afford to have a player who is limited in his technical skills and passing playing in midfield at the highest level.

Great player at Leicester or any side challenging to break into the top six, but probably not quite good enough for teams challenging for top four or the title.

I'm with rom I'd sign Ndidi, he is going to be a great player imo.

Fans are critical of the scouting team for not finding and more importantly signing players like Longstaff before they are a household name. then on the otherhand when we do go for the unknowns the club also gets it in the next.

Looking forward to seeing how the lads line up next month.

I thought OGS had no say in transfers ed?

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what he has said.}

Shapppy, u have probably watched him in more detail so I’ll go with you on it. I watched a couple of Leicester games last season when he really stood out. Cheers for a sensible reply. Few and far between on here lately.

Interested in what you think of Choudhury at Leicester?

Looks well organised, aware of what is around him and has potential.

20.) 27 Jun 2019
27 Jun 2019 22:05:07
ED001, do you think Rice and Longstaff can play together for England?

{Ed001's Note - very much so, Longstaff is better when allowed to drive forward.}

21.) 28 Jun 2019
28 Jun 2019 04:24:06
Maybe we should be asking ourselves who identified and brought in all of these good unknown young players to turn Leicester from being also rans to PL champions and then sustaining the challenge for top 6. Even after loosing key players (Mahrez, Drinkwater, Kanye to name 3) along the way by replacing them with more good young players?

22.) 28 Jun 2019
27 Jun 2019 23:21:00
Sorry ed, I recall you mentioning before that OGS will have no hand in United transfers. What does it matter if he is liked enough by OGS then?

I just wonder does OGS have any say on targets.

{Ed002's Note - He has no involvement in the transfer process itself but has an input as far as targets are concerned - but the club has others who are much better placed regarding deciding about targets.}

23.) 28 Jun 2019
28 Jun 2019 08:16:34
Hey 001, thanks for the reply. What are your thoughts on Maddison? Could Rice, Longstaff and Maddison be the future England midfield?

{Ed001's Note - very possibly. Maddison is quality. I did a top 10 of attacking midfielders when he was in the Championship and got a lot of stick as I had him at number 10. So that will give you an idea of how highly I rate Maddison as he has improved in the Prem.}

Red man, Choudhury has impressed me with his understanding and game appreciation. He is more often than not in the right place at the right time. He looks like he will be an excellent player, and dedicated to becoming a better player from what I've heard, so great attitude.

Definitely one to keep an eye on.

28 Jun 2019 10:56:19
Saw Longstaff play a couple of times last season, he impressed me and could be a good signing .

While it's good to see us going after young up and coming talent, my worry is that there's very little leadership in the squad and if we end up with a number of new young players in the side at the one time it could destroy them . It's a far different situation to when the Class of 92 were introduced.
Back then we had experience and leadership and winners like Schmeichel, Irwin, Bruce, Keane and Cantona alongside them .

Bilko,

This will definitely be unpopular, but perhaps that is why Young and Mata are staying, particularly Youmg, to be the mentor.

I can see Woody getting Wood think of marketing Madison as number 7.

The guy does seem good, humble and driven. I actually think he'd be a better buy than Fernandes. And would be and upgrade on Mata and Lingard.

Yes, game appreciation, seen that before. Choudhury looked to have spacial awareness, understands what is around him, knows how to move into space, then when the ball is with the opposition gets into the right position, almost a natural instinct. Will be interesting to see him develop.
