With the European Courts verdict this morning, I wonder what the implication are for football in general, and Manchester United. Will the Glazers still sell the club. Will they want more money? Will they not now sell? Will they announce a new round of bidding?
Interesting times.
Eds, what's your take on the rulings and its implications.

{Ed002's Note - It changes little for the "elite" sides who discuss this at least twice a year. It was always going to and will happen. There is no real impact on FIFA although there may be an end to the expanded Club World Cup but it means that UEFA will need to re-engage with "elite" sides and to figure out what to do with the Champions League if it happens. For me this was expected and puts those clubs back on track.}

1.) 21 Dec 2023 10:56:03
It would take years to get off the ground so hopefully their pushing up daisies by then.

{Ed002's Note - You don't understand the situation.}

2.) 21 Dec 2023 12:02:52
I personally want to see a super league, of the most elite teams going up against each other every week.

3.) 21 Dec 2023 13:16:16
If it goes ahead I will, if United get involved, give up on football altogether.
My personal view is that it is a disgusting proposal.

4.) 21 Dec 2023 13:26:54
Sooner the super league happens the better.
I'd welcome it with open arms.

5.) 21 Dec 2023 16:15:29
So the proposal is for a midweek league with three divisons where top 8 go to knockout phase and with promotion and relegation all tiers.

Other than opposition from competitions losing power and control what is not to like about it?

6.) 21 Dec 2023 16:53:53
I think you could kiss goodbye the two domestic cups, or at least to Premier league teams. They can't even fit the games in now or field second-string teams. At least it would encourage more squad depths.

7.) 21 Dec 2023 17:43:34
do the clubs intend to have any independent governing body? Or do they want to govern themselves?

{Ed002's Note - The government not the clubs want an overseer.}

8.) 21 Dec 2023 21:10:24
If it goes ahead, I'm done with utd and football. Be a final nail in coffin and pure greed wins. Feeling it will go ahead, both cups die and ill go and watch non league instead.

9.) 21 Dec 2023 23:05:55
I don't understand the negativity towards it. I actually liked the original super league plan except the closed shop concept. Would you rather watch real madrid vs bayern or antwerp vs braga? Uefa are corrupt and have made a closed market and they have pretty much taken their idea for the new format.

10.) 22 Dec 2023 04:36:12
Yeah but there's always the romantic ideal in football of David v Goileth, plus the jeopardy which comes from relegation and promotion.

Take away all that and football. loses another part of its soul.

11.) 22 Dec 2023 06:48:08
So, Danny, how could Braga or Antwerp ever become contenders, if you take any chance away? Football was better before Champions League, teams like Steaua could win it, and now it is impossible.

Also, new format is so bad, only 2 teams drop from the first division, basically there will be very little changes every season, it will become boring. Maybe RM or Barcelona don't like playing against Antwerp or Braga, but do Antwerp and Braga, and their fans, like playing against those clubs? What about teams like Copenhagen and Galatasaray? What about PL? United (or any other team envolved in SL) would rather fight to secure to stay in the top division, than winning the PL (or rather than fighting to secure top 4, as top 4 will be irrelevant) .

12.) 22 Dec 2023 07:58:00
The decision seems to have been based on the court ruling that Uefa and Fifa were abusing their power to prevent the clubs from exercising their right to free competition. This decision does not necessarily mean that a super league in the form originally proposed a couple of years ago will go ahead. There seems to be a lot of discussion regarding the method of qualification for the new tournament. Will it be based on performance or as of right, like in a US franchise system where even the crappiest teams are guaranteed a berth at the top table ad infinitum. It's great for the franchisees. Locked in profitability. League control over merchandising. Salary caps. Adaptation of the rules to allow for maximizing in game advertising. Who knows, maybe Todd Boehly will get his wish and have an exceedingly boring all star weekend with archaic concepts like cheerleaders in tight shorts while everyone fawns over these megastars.

Maybe younger folk and the global audience will be turned on by watching Europe's top clubs in constant action against each other, but for old traditionalists like me, the old English league rivalries are what the game is all about. But I'm not the future audience. Things change. Bah humbug.

13.) 22 Dec 2023 11:03:17
If it comes to pass I will also be done with football, TBH, I'm heading that way anyway. It's pure greed and nothing t9 do with the sport. The Champions league is awful nowadays, pretty much the same teams qualify, and pretty much the same teams progress. Football lost its soul many years ago, it seems there is little hop3 of it ever being recovered.

Its not just football, look at boxing and golf, selling themselves to the highest bidder. I have no solutions, but where we are heading doesn't look good.

Hello Ed002
Is there any truth to the rumours that Utd are interested in Mohammed Kudus from Ajax this window.

utd4ever

{Ed002's Note - Mohammed Kudus (AM) Everton were told by Ajax that he was not for sale in the summer but interest may remain although the club have little chance of signing him. Ajax still don't want to sell and would no doubt look for well over the odds if any offers were made. Borussia Dortmund have a declared interest. Barcelona may well look to making a bid for the player. Seen as an option to Tielemans by Arsenal. Eric ten Hag knows the player but he would be a Bruno Fernandes replacement if the club were to look at him. As a wildcard Newcastle could look to partner Almiron with him and use Joelinton further forward.}

Thanks Ed002,
Very informative as always.

If any of the Eds are around. Will the Glaziers look to sell Utd in the next year or two. The reason I ask this is because it was discussed some time ago on here and with player recruitment prices continually rising and the near endless investment it seems that Utd need, it would be financially beneficial for the Glaziers to cash in.
If we aren't winning trophies, and as an atractive proposition for sponsers will the commercial revenue start to drop off, thus making new signings more difficult, and less likely that the Glaziers can take even more money out of the club.

utd4ever

{Ed002's Note - Losing one game will not cause sposors to drop the club and the owners to sell. They will sell when the time is right.}

1.) 22 Aug 2018 11:37:19
Was thinking the same thing does the value of the dollar make a difference as it's so high against the euro/ pound? Maybe makes the sale more unlikely? We need to be careful what we wish for. They remain pretty anonymous and re-invest (in players anyway) .

{Ed002's Note - The company is owned and would be sold in US$.}

2.) 22 Aug 2018 12:55:36
Thanks for the reply Ed002, would you happen to know when that timing may be? Also I was thinking that the lack of summer player investment this year compared to last year, may be an inkling into selling the club. Or am I way off the mark.

{Ed002's Note - There is no schedule I am aware of - there has not been a lack of player investment - just a decision about value for money.}

3.) 22 Aug 2018 16:05:50
Ffs ed02 where's your crystal ball man! lol-and if you could give me the winning euro lottery numbers for this friday your in my will-guaranteed!

4.) 22 Aug 2018 18:12:50
Share price hits a record high today so as far as the share holders are concerned all is just fine and dandy.

5.) 22 Aug 2018 19:28:01
Shares at record high, good time to sell then?

According to the Guardian, we will appoint a director of football as part of a club restructuring programne and Carrington being expanded. Could one of the eds please help us out and give us some insight into who the club has in mind for this important role, and what when is the likely to happen.

utd4ever

{Ed002's Note - The club could not previously attract the person they wanted - they will look at candidates very carefully. We will have to see who they look to.}

Free flowing attacking football v winning trophies.
Personally I want both.
But first and foremost I want the exciting, edge of your seat football, something that entertains.
If we produce this the trophies will come.

It's pre season. We have literally a full team out.

2.) 29 jul 2018 12:44:19
the reaction from a pre-season game is actually embarrassing and dreadful, never seen anything like it. psg are definitely in a crisis after losing 5-1 to arsenal. also, on a more positive note, happy birthday ed001.

3.) 29 Jul 2018 12:53:00
I’m less bothered about the scores and performances than I am by Jose’s comments and demeanour. He’s becoming like a Dementor out of Harry Potter, literally sucking your soul out of your body.

{Ed002's Note - I have explained on many occasions, don't take anything he says seriously.}

4.) 29 Jul 2018 13:49:40
I'm commenting on the style football we have played since SAF left, not one pre-season friendly. The last 3 managerial appointments have been poor.

5.) 29 Jul 2018 14:19:14
It's like the ed said we actually had a plan.

A plan that many have talked about having on a daily basis.

If it wasn't for the majority we would still be following that plan.

Unfortunately that plan changed and now the result is what we see now.

6.) 29 Jul 2018 16:43:49
Time to move on from this now. All best laid plans can and do change. Time to make new ones and stop sulking all round.

7.) 29 Jul 2018 22:28:19
If you play attacking, free-flowing football, with good players, the trophies will follow on. The two don't have to be mutually exclusive.

Personally, I think the club will be sold. The only aim for the glazers is to get the best price, and this is their tactic of doing so.
Why would they relinquish a portion of the club only to Invest that money in the infrastructure (redeveloping Old Trafford and Carrington) . It makes no business sense.

There is a bigger problem than who the manager is. The Glazers have haven't paid a penny for the club or put a penny in. They don't care for the club or the fans, all they care about is the money Utd generate. To them our great club is just a cash cow, and there doing the milking. The money spent on transfers isn't coming out of their pockets but is reliant on Woodward doing another commercial venture.
Where the manager is responsible is for the playing style, formation and for motivating the players. Most players that have come in under Mourhino have gone backwards, and the ones he inherited have too. We need a manager, who will adopt the club's attacking style and flair. I want to be entertained, and I'm not at the moment. I've not been since SAF left.
It pains me to say it but we need to change manager, we also need a director of football, someone who will respect the history of out great club and uphold those traditions.
Rant over.
