My opinion tends to sway with performances but when I look at our squad I think it’s very unbalanced and even after so much money being spent, still looks thin. We seem to have square pegs in round holes which is contrary to what I thought Jose wanted. The squad also looks to be getting on a bit too so big investment still needed.

Playing a 5-3-1-1 this is how I see the squad;
Goalkeepers – Providing we keep DDG and Romero then this looks strong
Centre backs – Contrary to popular opinion I actually think we’re ok here providing we can get our players fit. A back 3 of Jones, Bailly and Lindelof looks pretty good, with Smalling and Rojo as backup.

Left Fullbacks – Young, Shaw and Blind = Old, inconsistent and slow. If Shaw can bring his A game regularly then the other two provide adequate cover for now but that’s a big if.

Right Fullbacks – Valencia and Darmian = Valencia will be 33 next year and that’s quite old for a FB and Darmian is just not good enough. Both need replacing quite quickly.

Centre Midfield – Matic, Harrera, Carrick, Fellaini: Matic will probably peak next year and then the legs will start to slow down, Harrera’s passes, much like his performances of late, seem to only go backwards, Carrick is already too slow and Fellaini is not quite at the level we need although he has done well this season
Creative Midfielder – Matta, Mkhitaryan, Pogba, Lingard. This is an area where we have strength in depth. Pogba is top drawer and Lindgard a good squad option. The other two just not good enough.

Centre Forward – Lukaku the jury is still out for me because the service to him hasn’t always been great and he’s feeding off scraps but I don’t think his movement is good enough. Martial and Rashford both inconsistent but I would like to see them both get runs in the CF position. Ibrahimovic quality player but 5 years too late to United.

Left/ Right Midfielder / Playmakers – You can argue the case for Rashford and Martial but I don’t think either of them are natural wide players and I’m struggling to think of any players who fit there.

This is my opinion on why we lack balance and pace. Next year I think we need a new left full-back and a new right full-back. A new central midfielder. A new left winger/ midfielder and a new right winger / midfielder. This looks like the best part of £500m next year to me.

There has only been a few games were lukaku didn’t get much service, one being agaisnt us, he turns like a bus and his first rich is awful, so the bigger games were he’s not given time on the ball he’ll struggle, but he scored a solid amount of goals every season so the their games he picks up a lot of goals. Rashford has been class that lad seems to have a good head on his shoulders too.

United red I think that's a very fair and balanced post.

Once again the Ronaldo wants to return to United stories are surfacing.
For United this has been like trying to get back with an Ex who you used to adore, but with her saying she still loves you and has feelings but can’t be with you right now, but carries on flirting with you regardless………. and when she finally decides she really does want to get back with you, she’s had about 5 children and isn’t quite as hot as you remember.
I loved Ronaldo and 3 to 5 years ago would’ve had him back in a heartbeat but now he looks nowhere near as “hot”.

Totally agree unitedred 😂. The romantic in me would love to see him gracing the Old Trafford pitch again. For years I hoped he would come back. But it would be a bad move to bring him and would be purely on sentiment rather than sound reasoning. Sadly I think he is in decline and not the same player anymore. But it would be horrendous to see him playing for any other premier league team.

2.) 15 Jan 2018 13:49:53
I'd take him back, play him as no 9, with Martial as his understudy. And just ignore lukaku for ever more.

3.) 15 Jan 2018 13:51:20
Not the same player. 3 years ago deffo, now no chance. Rather spunk £130m on Kane.

4.) 15 Jan 2018 15:43:30
Kane will be £250m. But I agree stand.

Everton v Liverpool LIVE on BBC! Are they having a giraffe? Who wants to watch that rubbish.
As a BBC licence fee payer I demand that they switch this to the United game immediately.

I saw that. Also no highlights on tonight, which is equally annoying!

20 Dec 2017 22:00:08
Sorry Shappy, I only just saw your reply to me a little while ago and I’ve been a bit too busy to respond. You were talking about our improvements but I can honestly say I’m not seeing it. I think the reality is that we had a very nice fixture list at the start of the season which gave us false hope. I think we might actually be going backwards., and I know we’ve lost i this tornement before but never with such a stellar team on the pitch.

unitedred71

1.) 20 Dec 2017 22:08:58
We have lost in this competition plenty of times with much stronger teams than that out.

You honestly can’t see the improvement? We have played 18 of the 19 teams including Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool away, how have we had an easy fixture list?

2.) 20 Dec 2017 22:10:05
Or the fact we lost of few key players who were smashing it and it effected our performances.

3.) 20 Dec 2017 22:14:04
He was referring to our relatively easy start to the fixture list, as you well know GDS :)

4.) 20 Dec 2017 22:17:14
But we are still 2nd now so that makes no sense officer.

5.) 20 Dec 2017 22:28:25
He was referring to how this relatively easy start, made some of us perhaps get a little ahead of ourselves. As you also well know, MOP.

6.) 20 Dec 2017 22:35:23
I think a lot of us saw our fixture list, and thought it was a good opportunity to put some distance between ourselves and our rivals, early on.

7.) 20 Dec 2017 22:36:06
we’ve been beaten in this competition before but never with such a strong team. I’m just amazed at how good ANY team can look against us. We fashioned a few good chances but they carved us open time and time again.
I thought Romero played as though he was wearing woollen mittens, Blind tried his hardest to miss every tackle, mctominay just seemed to be taking up shirt space and Zlatan now appears to have his footwear made by toblerone.
This was more like a bunch of underperforming individuals rather than a team working together.
I’m probably over reacting a bit but football . bloody hell.

red 71

You re not overreacting. The players were so so poor and city will beat this team quite handily and rip them to shreds. They are so easy to open up and takes 5 decent passes in the final 3rd. our guys touch, decision making and passing was awful last night.

IF city field a strong team i would not be surprised to see a huge score line.

10.) 21 Dec 2017 06:52:11
If city play their second team, they'll still beat them 5 nil.

11.) 21 Dec 2017 09:16:59
Just like they hammered Wolves at the Etihad.

What are the short, tight black bib tops worn in training for and why do only a few people wear them at a time?

unitedred71

1.) 07 Jul 2016 12:10:04
Heart rate monitor's I believe.

2.) 07 Jul 2016 12:23:18
I think they have some form of tracker in them as well to see how fast and how far they are running.

3.) 07 Jul 2016 12:33:20
Heart monitors, fitness reading?

4.) 07 Jul 2016 12:31:01
I know, what happened to good old skins and shirts.

5.) 07 Jul 2016 12:38:10
Thanks guys. I wondered whether they had some sort of GPS/ tracking but I don't understand why only one or two wear them at a time. must be too expensive :-)

6.) 07 Jul 2016 15:14:47
the only gps tracker was fitted to giggsys car by the players so they knew he wasnt near there wags :)

7.) 07 Jul 2016 16:44:34
GPRS it is! I used them at St Helens rugby league whilst at uni doing Sports Science. The amount of info from them is a lot and takes hours to break down and analyse, as it coincides with other variables (heart rate sometimes being one of them) hence why only a few players wear them at a time!

8.) 07 Jul 2016 16:46:25
GPS* 🙈.

09 Jun 2016 13:23:55
After 40 years of disappointment I was determined not to get excited about the Euros. Maybe it's the sun but like they say there's no fool like an old fool. come on England!

unitedred71

1.) 09 Jun 2016 13:55:29
50 years of hurt 😉.

2.) 09 Jun 2016 14:26:43
Welsh,

You not remember us winning the Euro's in 1976?

3.) 09 Jun 2016 14:40:42
Did you? No I didn't know you did honestly ha, I stand corrected.

4.) 09 Jun 2016 15:09:02
40 years of disappointment, 50 years of hurt. I'm confused. Are you guys talking about England or Liverpool?

5.) 09 Jun 2016 15:24:02
GDS? Stop making things up to ease the pain :)

6.) 09 Jun 2016 15:32:24
Welsh,

No we didn't, but glad you got the joke!

7.) 09 Jun 2016 15:54:18
Ha you could of literally fooled me I would've believed you, never mind it's your year 😉.

8.) 09 Jun 2016 21:37:40
90 and 96 were the last decent tournaments we had. 1990 being the last decent world cup as a spectacle.

9.) 09 Jun 2016 23:19:22
Italia 90 is regarded as one of the dullest world cups ever with quite a low number of goals scored overall.

10.) 10 Jun 2016 04:33:23
90 was great, very good wc.

I agree with you Beast although I’m probably a bit more optimistic:-) I’m never sure which United is going to turn up these days. The entertaining free flowing fast passing team I love watching or the scared park the bus and hit it long United which is becoming more frequent. I get that there can be off days but since when do united hold on by their finger nails for 3 points against WBA. We should be smashing these teams out of sight, beating them before they’ve even stepped onto the pitch.
Forget this defend in numbers. Leave the top 3 up front and get a playmaker in who can get the ball to them quickly.

I think all of you guys have your heads in the clouds if you think Moyes is the right man for the job and all he needs is time. He is the wrong man for the job. Simple!

I think you're all being a bit pretentious and complacent about this. Liverpool may not have won anything for a while but they're the only team to have given City a good hiding and if I was a gambling man I'd put money on them finishing higher than us this year and next year who knows what they might achieve.
It pains me to see Liverpool and City and to a lesser extent Spurs playing the way they are whilst we trudge our way to 3 points.
I heard some old commentary last week and it went something like "marvellous, magnificent, Manchester United". it hasn't felt like that for a while.

It’s remarkable just how delusional he is. Obviously I’m not privy to what went on behind the scenes but surely he must’ve been aware of the undercurrent of dissatisfaction about the playing style and performances. It is said that he is incredibly stubborn but he really takes it to a whole new level.

Sanchez left Barcelona because he couldn't be the protagonist within the team. Great player but needs more than that to fit into the Barcelona style (Danny Alves March 2016). why would he consider a move to Man City whereby he more than likely won't be the main protagonist again?
Could it be that he genuinely is interested in joining united? Great signing if he comes. Good energy, skill, hard worker and a bad loser. everything you want in a player!
