Hi Ed, any truth in reports of our interest in Matt O'Riley of Celtic? Tried the search engine but it only brought up Mike Riley who we chased all summer a few years back.

redarmy87

{Ed002's Note - Matt O’Riley (CM) Watched by scouts from Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool. Only joined Celtic in January and they are not looking to sell - but if a very good offer came in, perhaps. Suggested Manchester United may be interested but he would likely not be a priority.

1.) 29 Aug 2022 22:10:53
Would be a great signing.

28 Sep 2020 22:06:16
Telegraph reporting United have enquired about Ismaila Sarr. Don't know how reliable they are.

redarmy87

1.) 28 Sep 2020 22:30:42
I think he would be a useful addition. Very pacey and works hard off the ball if match of the day highlights are anything to go by lol. Far more cost effective than Sancho.

2.) 28 Sep 2020 22:57:04
I’d take him. fits the profile of the type of player we are trying to bring in. Wait and see I guess.

3.) 28 Sep 2020 23:19:28
Harry, he may be more cost effective but does he have the same quality? He’s not a player I’ve watched a great deal off. Anytime I have I’ve always thought he’s a bit raw still.

4.) 28 Sep 2020 23:24:55
Not saying sarr would be a bad player but as he will be a reasonable price and no one is going for him makes me think is he the right choice. I know teams aren't going for sancho either but that's got more to do with financial difficulties of clubs not due to no interest.

5.) 29 Sep 2020 01:16:49
Sancho is twice the player sar is. if we wabt to close the gap we need to sign quailty players that will improve the team.

Sar is not that player.

6.) 29 Sep 2020 07:10:30
Bolger we also need to improve the squad.

The question is, whose place does Sancho take? It’s Greenwood who loses out. Are we prepared to see Greenwood lose his place? I know I’m not. He’s our best finisher and in a couple of years will probably be our best player.

There are more concerning positions to fill; CB, LB, DM. Add to that, the quality of our bench.

Sarr can offer something different off the bench without taking Greenwood’s place.

Our most attacking player on the bench against Brighton was Lingard. That is far from good enough.

I don’t see any urgency to sign Sancho given how much we need improvement at the back.

7.) 29 Sep 2020 08:20:36
Wazza

At Brighton we had our only attackers in the squad, actually on the pitch. Ighalo isn’t good enough. We don’t have another option, when Ighalo goes back in January, then what? We are short of a CF for me, there is no plan B. Wouldn't surprise me to see Josh King arrive in desperation on deadline day.

8.) 29 Sep 2020 08:37:06
Might be best to ask ED001 what he thinks about Sarr?

{Ed001's Note - very raw and inconsistent, but has the power, pace and skill to destroy any defender on his day. Still young and learning so needs guidance and coaching to bring out the best in him.}

9.) 29 Sep 2020 08:41:24
Greenwood is a good player and is basically covering the rw but its not his position and giving him game time and experience is great but getting a player who actually plays there is better for the team.

10.) 29 Sep 2020 08:56:09
Id have no issue the club buying sarr he's got a lot of potential. Sancho might be thinking will we qualify for champions league next year. Are we going to be able to win any trophies. Things that are more likely to happen at dortmund.

11.) 29 Sep 2020 09:15:12
Thanks ED001, woukd you take him iver Sancho? Given the reported fees fir bith players.

{Ed001's Note - I can't judge on finances, but I would be wary of spending a lot on Sancho when he doesn't really want to join you. Sarr has other preferences, for now, but he would see United as a giant leap forward in his career, so he is more likely to put his all into his training and playing. Sancho doesn't seem to have that same feeling about United, so he would be a huge risk.}

12.) 29 Sep 2020 10:38:58
I think Sarr could be a good alternative, young, EPL proven, great potential, and has a different style to what we have. He could easily provide the attacking thrust wide right that neither Greenwood (as a more natural striker) or AWB (as a more comfortable defender) could. He would potentially add that balance in attack and create more space centrally by stretching the pitch.

Obviously he isn't on Jadon Sancho's level, but that is way he would cost a third of Sancho's price. While as the Ed points out there must be a concern with spending so much money on a player who maybe isn't entirely committed to the idea of signing for us. Pogba wanted to move to Spain, but neither would pay what was required so he moved back to us. Hardly a fantastic success story about signing a player who doesn't really want to move to United.

Could you imagine is Sancho plays in a similar vein to Pogba for 5 years then leave on a free?

Personally I think Greenwood needs to play most weeks and realistically that is only likely to happen on the RW. So brining in a stylistically different option that doesn't burst the bank could be a shrewd move.

I certainly prefer the idea of signing Sarr over players like Perisic, Ousemane Dembele and Coman for example. Three players who are either too old, too injury prone or play their best football on the left rather than the right.

13.) 29 Sep 2020 10:50:08
Ed, just on the matter of Sancho and Sarr, you mention that Sancho doesn't really want to join United, why are the board pushing it so hard then? Is this another statement signing (like Di Maria or more recently, Pogba) .

And who would be your number 1 target for the RW position for United?

{Ed001's Note - they are pushing for him because he is seen as the best fit for the United model. Young, English, skilful, exciting and a good player. That's why they are pushing for him. And it is not like his chosen team (Chelsea) are going to come in for him any time soon, certainly not while the money being asked is so high.}

14.) 29 Sep 2020 12:20:48
ed01 sarr will not get any better with our coaching staff. look at james he has gone backwards.

{Ed001's Note - that would be the worry with going with Sarr.}

15.) 29 Sep 2020 12:35:21
Fair point Ed. No doubt he's talented and has loads of potential. Not too sure how often it works when a player arrives at a club that they don't want to be at, in the first place.

Let's see how the window goes. Doubt that Sancho would be in red come 6th October.

16.) 29 Sep 2020 13:40:37
Thanks ED001, I'm not sure why they are still trying to sort a deal our for Sancho. Surely if yiu can't agree a fee etc you move onto your next target. I think Chiesea would be a good fit. Certainly cheaper.

{Ed001's Note - there are a lot of options, no idea why they continue to mess about. If the price is too high move on.}

17.) 29 Sep 2020 14:24:27
ED001, agreed. It is as though they are trying to buy players when perhaps they don't really want to spend any money. i.e bids are way below the asking price. Even the Telles talks appear to be dragging on.

18.) 29 Sep 2020 16:46:36
Exactly Redman. We need to strengthen our options from the bench. Never have I seen Dan James, Ighalo or Lingard have an impact from the bench when we've been chasing the game.

19.) 29 Sep 2020 18:32:59
Sly reporting a bid of 90 mil has been rejected.

03 Jul 2020 19:26:33
Duncan Castles reporting that we've agreed personal terms with Sancho. Never trusted him, take it this is fake news ed?

redarmy87

{Ed002's Note - I would assume via his agent if that is the case. Manchester United would still need to agree his agent's fee and to agree a transfer fee with Boussia Dortmund.}

1.) 03 Jul 2020 19:41:32
Thanks Ed.

2.) 03 Jul 2020 20:00:30
If true ed, is that not illegal? Unless Dortmund has given us permission.

{Ed002's Note - MU can talk to the agent but not the player without permission.}

3.) 03 Jul 2020 20:06:45
Not sure how reliable Duncan Castles is as he said we signed Bellingham 3 weeks back.

If we are in for Sancho then it’s the fee with Dortmund and not personal terms that will be the issue.

4.) 03 Jul 2020 20:20:25
How reliable is Castles though? Isn't he like a tier 3/ 4 journalist?

5.) 03 Jul 2020 21:35:41
Thanks ed. Sounds as though his agent is being mischievous. Apparently he has form.

6.) 04 Jul 2020 09:15:58
I find that Fabrizio Romano (the ltalian Journalist) to be the most reliable one if you look towards them for rumors. Castles is good friends with Jose Mourinho.

17 Dec 2019 20:19:01
Erling Haaland has been pictured signing a Man United shirt. It's a done deal people! Can't get more official than that.

redarmy87

1.) 17 Dec 2019 20:59:40
Yes he is signing for Leeds, Napoli and Utd.

2.) 17 Dec 2019 21:05:12
Even though this is tongue in cheek, he has also signed a Leeds, Genk, Leipzig, Napoli also a few others but the amount of people on Twitter that are losing there mind that he signed an MU shirt is amusing.

3.) 17 Dec 2019 21:32:46
Yes but discountdave he didn't realise that the genius ed woodword had a 5 year contract underneath that thread bare football shirt he signed! He's going to fire us to the top of the championship next year mark my words!

4.) 18 Dec 2019 15:55:33
If you look at the pictures the Utd one is done somewhere else and in different clothes.

There’s a suggestion the Utd image leaked and the others where then done to save face. If you look at the others he doesn’t actually sign them.

5.) 19 Dec 2019 17:56:20
That's a keen eye you have Utd Road. My head says that he will end up at Dortmund but that pic has got my hopes back up.

09 Apr 2019 19:59:13
Hi Ed, do United hold any interest in hirving lozano? He's been linked recently and would offer a potential solution to our right side.

redarmy87

{Ed002's Note - Lozano is a LW and would perhaps be a Sanchez replacement.}

1.) 09 Apr 2019 21:20:47
We could only accommodate another left sided player if we let Sánchez and Lukaku go which pushes Martial towards the middle.

2.) 09 Apr 2019 22:04:29
So Sanchez could be moving. Best for all concerned I think. Lozano fits the bill for me young absolutely rapid and knows where the goal is.

3.) 09 Apr 2019 22:19:15
From what I have seen of Lozano, he looks like he has the right mentality. He is a fighter, not one to go and sulk when things don't go his way.

4.) 09 Apr 2019 22:32:26
Thanks ed, think we're overloaded on that side of the attack already.

5.) 09 Apr 2019 23:16:48
I can see Lukaku go either this summer or next summer the latest.

6.) 10 Apr 2019 00:32:48
Would love to sign Lozano. He was great at the World Cup and has carried that form on this season. He’s absolutely rapid too. I think we may see martial and rashford pushed centrally which is where they both look more comfortable. Lukaku seems like he may be on his way. Interesting summer ahead.

7.) 10 Apr 2019 03:29:22
redarmy he plays as much on the right as he does on the left.

8.) 10 Apr 2019 06:22:55
Park. Lukaku must be kept, we cannot afford to make too many changes in one window.
We never know if a new player can settle in immediately.

Hi ed, does our signing Ronaldo impact our search for a new midfielder?

redarmy87

{Ed002's Note - No.}

1.) 27 Aug 2021 23:24:34
Thanks ed👍.

2.) 27 Aug 2021 23:53:04
I'd be amazed with any of the 3 options ed has mentioned before saul (loan) neves or camavinga. We've just signed the cherry a midfielder would complete the cake.

08 Aug 2019 14:07:14
Don't shoot the messenger but I've just heard a rumour from a trusted source that Ed Woodward has made a late bid for a toaster. I don't think we can afford it and I don't know where it would play. Could be useful popping up on the counter? Maybe plug a hole in our defense? Or if nothing else make an excellent parting gift for Marcus Rojo?

redarmy87

1.) 08 Aug 2019 14:29:17
It might make a nice bath toy for him.

{Ed025's Note - love it red7..

2.) 08 Aug 2019 14:30:39
2/ 10.

04 Aug 2019 21:17:56
Ed with the recent BBC reports that we've ended our pursuit of Dybala and Fernandes (assuming they're reliable) do you think we're likely to make any more signings? Is there any new targets we're likely to push for?

redarmy87

{Ed002's Note - Dozens.}

04 Jun 2019 21:45:28
Hi Ed, is there any truth to the James Maddison rumours? Sorry if it's been covered, I tried the search function but don't think you've mentioned him.

redarmy87

{Ed002's Note - There is a lot of interest but hard to see a sale this summer.}

22 Jul 2016 15:21:50
Don't think we can learn too much from that game as it was Dortmunds 5th friendly and only our 2nd. The difference in fitness really showed. Two positives I seen were that Luke shaw looks really sharp, like a new signing at full back. And Bailly looks impressive, such a physical presence and plenty of pace too.

redarmy87

1.) 22 Jul 2016 15:31:24
Redarmy I don't think the number of games is relevant. Fair enough it was a friendly but I'd like to think we would have showed more than we did. As for Bailly did we watch the same game?

2.) 22 Jul 2016 15:36:57
Yes, better to focus on the positives, given the difference in fitness levels, esp. with that humidity over there, the players look drenched!
Great to see Shaw back, he will only get sharper game by game now. Bailly impressed as well, quick, physical, and comfortable with the ball. I also saw a lot of good things from Herrera, he gets around the pitch and can link up different players from back to front and switch the play. He could look like a new player under JM.

3.) 22 Jul 2016 15:45:30
Jmb u are the only one who thinks bailly had a mare my friend.

4.) 22 Jul 2016 15:59:22
Didnt see the match but watched the updates online.

its a 50/ 50 mix for bailly on here. some say impressive and others awful.

how can opinion be that split?

5.) 22 Jul 2016 16:09:25
I only see one guy saying Bailly was poor.

How can people say fitness and preparation is not a factor in the conditions being played? Of course it is a factor. Match sharpness is key at the top level IMO.

It is a pity the manager doesn't have the whole squad available. A lot of the lads on show won't be here for much longer IMO.

6.) 22 Jul 2016 16:27:02
Of course the no of games played is relevant to the performance of both sides maze that's a stupid thing to say.

7.) 22 Jul 2016 16:50:31
I think there's one vital thing we all need to remember here. Weren't we playing really well in pre season under LVG? I'll just leave that there.

8.) 22 Jul 2016 17:09:21
Exactly, Red.

9.) 22 Jul 2016 17:12:49
Nice to see you back maze your positivity is always a breath of fresh air 😴😴.

10.) 22 Jul 2016 17:29:30
I will overcome his negative vibes with my positive ones, deano, mate.

:)

11.) 22 Jul 2016 17:49:34
Maze . U seem to be even more deluded since your "banning I mean break". Bailly will have better games but poor he wasn't. There's always one😆😆.

12.) 22 Jul 2016 18:07:14
Did not see the game but honestly are we going to start criticising things based on a meaningless game with quite few of our key players not even lacing it up. if i remember correctly we were undefeated during LVG pre season and even beat Barcelona but that translated to zilch in terms of domestic or european success.

These games are all about getting 90 minutes of competitive football and players to get a run out and the manager slowly making decisions on who is in and who is not.

13.) 22 Jul 2016 18:26:28
We didn't play well pre-season under LVG, it's a fallacy. We did blitz LA Galaxy once, but I watched every friendly over the past 2 seasons and we got the results (for the same reason Dortmund got a result today), we didn't actually play that well.

Friendlies are for four key footballing reasons:

1 - Fitness
2 - Working on patterns/ relationships
3 - Trying different tactics
4 - shop window/ identifying who needs to go

the 5th reason is MONEY MONEY MONEY, but who cares.

14.) 22 Jul 2016 19:26:27
How can anyone get a true read from that game? . Wow.

Anyone that can't see what's really going on needs to give their head a wobble. Clearly FDJ would prefer to stay at Barcelona but has given at the very least an indication to ETH that he is willing to move if Barcelona want rid, but can't go public as it will weaken his position in terms of getting his owed wages. Read between the lines. Clearly not many poker players on here!

Nobody is holding a gun to Ronaldos head making him stay and if ETH is as smart as I think he is there isn't a shred of doubt he wants him gone. The fact is nobody has come in for him.

He's almost 40, has an ego comparable with the size of the sun, refuses to be a substitute, has spent the last 2 summers on strike - angling for a transfer, and if you watch him reeeally closely he's starting to look more and more like Robert de niro in The Irishman with all the de-aging technology that didn't actually work very well. So yeh, the lack of interest in him is a real puzzle.

Not even just the outstanding goal he scored, check out the skill he pulled on the touchline (made 2 Liverpool players crash into each other) . Looks like a future ballon d'Or magnet. Even if he isn't ready, I'd still prefer taking a punt on him than allowing Ronaldo to come crawling back when nobody comes for him.

Look up 'martinez Vs Chelsea' on YouTube. He was played as the holding midfield player in the champions League and absolutely ran the show. Perhaps explains why some people can imagine him as DM for us.
