Hey Ed001, just wanted to get your opinion on Ruud van Nistelrooy and robin van persie? how good did you think they were?

joelow

{Ed001's Note - both excellent players though RVN stands out as the better of the two. He was world class.}

Don't you think RVP was world-class Ed? Or did the injuries stop that from happening?

{Ed001's Note - he only really had two seasons where he peaked as a forward. He spent most of his career on the wing and/or injured. Because of that, despite his peak being world class, I can't see him as an overall career being a world class one.}

Rvp’s technique was incredible. I remember the first time I heard of him he scored a stunning volley against Charlton for arsenal! Off course we remember the volley against villa, but I think his first goal for us against Fulham was his best in a United shirt. Shame we only really got one Top season out of him.

Fair assessment Ed, but at his peak, albeit for two seasons, he was out of this world. Apparently we were paying well over the odds for a 29yr old when we signed him👌🏻.

Yeh Caolan, the way he hit that vs Fulham was actually incredible, on the volley, half turn and bang, off my seat! Also loved his finish vs Liverpool at home that season, clinical.

Ruud for me. I agree with Ed. Two great seasons is not enough to establish RVP as a great, despite the talent he showed when fit.

Just to be controversial, I still think that buying RVP may have been a great short term purchase by SAF, but as far as the long term development of the side was concerned it was a bad move symptomatic of the malaise for which we are now paying the price.

Shawthing could not have said it better myself.
Might have been worth regenerating our midfield rather than buying rvp.

Without RvP we wouldn't have won our last title. He scored so many vital goals in Sir Alex's final season.

However, we were linked with Lewandowski at the same time. I always wonder what would have been if we signed him instead of RvP.

8.) 11 Sep 2018 19:53:08
What would have happened if we signed Lewandowski is we might not have won the league in 2013 and he'd probably be at Madrid right now. RVP was a perfect signing, one who fired us to the title, no chance is that signing questionable. If we didn't sign him, again, we may not have won the league and we'd be worse off that season and still go into the s*heap that we have done so.

I honestly believe that title win, was one of the best individual campaigns we’ve seen at United. The winner against city. So many memories.

10.) 11 Sep 2018 20:32:33
RVP was the difference, I think it was fate. He wa ok until the season before we signed him when he was brilliant, he joined us and changed so many games. It was as if he was meant to join us and that season was spooky. Our play was so ordinary for so many games, conceded so many early goals, and RVP dug us out and secured the points. His incredible volley at the end was a parting swan song: he’s like the one night stand where sex was so good you think no other woman can live up to it, and so far, no other woman has.

It was a weird season AJH, went behind in quite a few games that season, conceded goals for fun, didn't dominate much games, football wasn't full of quality but my oh my was it entertaining, and winning.

12.) 12 Sep 2018 09:19:27
Didn’t we score something like 10 goals in stoppage time? And come from behind in 12/ 13 games.

Its my fav title win simply because it was our last one and because of the way we lost out the previous year.
Rvp an aging star bought for a short term fix.
He was an inspired signing and put in an inspirational season.
It what jose hoped ibra would do but despite a simialar goal tally it wasnt to be.
Bud for me RVN is the best cf I've seen play for the club over the last 40 years.
I loved Stuart pearson and mark hughes. I don't really consider rooney or cantona to have been a traditional cf as they ofen played deeper and in rooneys case off either side.
RVN was simply a fantastic goal scorer. Up there with fowler for me as one of the best finishers in epl history.
