Just been told off a good friend (who has a few good connections) that Juventus want Kagawa as part of any Vidal potential deal. Patrice Evra has apparently been raving about Shinji, and his suitability to the Italian game - which on reflection l, I would have to agree with. I think Kagawa would become a star in the Italian league. Their slower paced, technically favourable game would be right up his street.

Interesting if true!

WF Red Devil

WF Red Devil

1.) I was having this very conversation yesterday. Kagawa would be great in Italy and is wasted with us. If we offered Kagawa, Hernandez and £10m I can't see Juve turning it down.

2.) I think Kagawa is a good player and on the whole has been played out of position a lot but, it might be time for him to go, we've got too many no10s

3.) After last nights game and his lack of ability to play a 5 yard ball to a team mate I can't see Henandez having a place either in the squad.

4.) SSN are just reporting that Kagawa has been offered to Valencia, decision tomorrow

5.) Valencia have pennies to spend.

6.) Valencia have a new billionaire owner, Syd.

7.) Offering Juve Kagawa, Hernandez and £10million would be no good to them, would it? Aren't they struggling financially? Wouldn't it be better for Woodward to offer them what they want for the player and stop messing about like he did last summer with Fabregas and Thiago?

8.) That's what he was referring to Frink.

I think the game changed for the worse when Kagawa came off last night. I've always been a huge fan but the thing that annoys me the most is since he moved to us he seems to have lost a bit of fight and determination on and off the ball, especially running with the ball at his feet, just never tries it. Such a shame and maybe it is time for him to move on for that reason.

9.) Why would Kagawa be so suited to Italy?

He was great in Germany, which is more like the EPL than Italy.

A lot has been said about how LvG will improve the team, the style of football, etc. However one additional benefactor of LvGs presence will be Ed Woodward.

Within the game, LvG has some major connections, contacts and friendships, that are invaluable when trying to complete transfers with opposing clubs, etc. Woodward needs to get himself alongside LvG when concluding these deals to simply get himself introduced to these influential people (with little interference or involvement ideally). Should LvG then leave or retire; at least Woodward can then sustain the relationships and continue to develop them himself. Ed Woodwards lack of relationships was a key contributor as to why we couldn't get deals concluded last Summer - Hopefully, alongside LvG, that'll soon change.

WF Red Devil

WF Red Devil

1.) You can guarantee that Woodward will be at these meetings lol.

2.) Absolutely spot on post! Can only be a good thing!

3.) What sort of contacts that LVG has can help Woodward out at making deals go through for various players at different clubs?

4.) That's a great shout! He will be well connected with clubs, coaches and agents and should be a whole lot more productive in the market. Let's hope he does the business and we have a busy summer!

Reus 40m
Kroos 30m
Vidal 35m
Hummels 35m
Garay 17m

With player sales and retirements to cut the wage bill the above would be awesome!

Quite a bit of debate this morning as to whether Moreno's challenge on Shaw was reckless.

Listening to TalkSport this morning and the 'older' generation of players tended to lean towards the challenge being a 'good ol fashion' tackle, and that the lad got the ball so there was nothing wrong with it. To a degree, I can agree with this, however what has to be taken into consideration is the difference in the surface of the pitches in today's football. Today's pitches are designed to allow more give, and as such a players standing foot tends to sink into the ground a little more than in the past - which is great for protecting joints as it reduces impact shock, etc. but terrible when it means your foot is sunk into the pitch and a force is applied from the side of the leg. Today's rules MUST be applied in conjunction with today's playing conditions and as such, tackles such as Moreno's where the lad has gone in 'excessively' (in that his entire body weight has been thrown into the challenge) need to be recognized and subsequently punished.

WF Red Devil

WF Red Devil

{Ed001's Note - actually that's not true, surfaces tend to be firmer than the mudbaths of old.}

1.) 16 Sep 2015 11:27:56
I think it was Herrera that got penalized for a similar tackle over the weekend.

2.) 16 Sep 2015 11:13:55
Hi Ed,

Thanks for the reply. I was always under the impression that they were designed so the first two layers (top soil and grass surface) were 'softer' so any surface water can be drained better and as a result the top layer doesn't turn into a mud bath?

WF Red Devil

{Ed001's Note - not according to the older ex-pros I have spoken to mate, they all say they are harder now. Well other than when the pitches were frozen in the dead of Winter.}

A genuine question, that I think deserves to be thought about prior to replying and expressing an opinion:

If Harry Kane was called 'Sergio Redondo' or 'Juan Carlos Rodriquez' would your opinion change as to whether he's 'worth the money' or in fact, change your opinion of whether you want him at United or not?.

I got asked this last night and thought it was a good question. If Tottenham had bought a 'Sergio Redondo' last Summer, and he went on to score a hatful plus win the Young Player of the Year award, I wondered myself whether my opinion would change as currently I'm in the camp of 'Harry Kane's not worth £40m and not sure whether he suit us, etc.'

Truth be told. I think I would think differently, but I'm not sure why? Fashionable name perhaps? Or maybe just because English players are typically not a technical as foreign players?

anyway, some food for thought and glad to hear comments.

WF Red Devil

1.) 12 Jun 2015 13:59:45
Yes I think it would change a lot of people's view tbh. But, the price wouldn't be being quoted as high as it is either I don't think. If Sergio Redondo was a Colombian 21 year old, who scored the goals that Harry Kane has in his first real season, people would be very interested, but the prices being thrown about would be around the £25m mark i'd think, but because he is English the prices being thrown around are £40/50m, it is ridiculous! As I have said, if the price was around £25m plus £15m in add on's depending on his success, I'd go for it, no matter what his name is.

2.) 12 Jun 2015 14:00:31
i don't care how much he will cost or what his name is i haven't been massively impressed.
had a great season but i don't see him progressing into a top top player

3.) 12 Jun 2015 13:55:03
You might b right there . !

4.) 12 Jun 2015 13:55:41
People are scared that he will be a flop because it's happened before, everyone also thinks anyone who is English isn't good enough. Based on the national team.

5.) 12 Jun 2015 14:01:55
It matters that he's English only insofar that English players = higher transfer fees.

Kane is obviously a good player, but is he a £50m player? I don't think so. Would I buy Sergio Redondo for £50m on the back of one good season? Not a chance.

The lad has stated that he wants to stay at Spurs. Spurs will demand an extortionate fee for him. And he has, in real terms, only played one full season at the top level. Absolutely ridiculous to even be considering making a move for him now in my opinion.

6.) 12 Jun 2015 14:02:49
No he gets judged on his performances. Not his name, nationality, ethnicity, race or religious beliefs and anyone who thinks otherwise don't have a clue about the game.

7.) 12 Jun 2015 14:08:58
WF Red Devil, my issue with regards to the Kane Saga is the first 2 things people say about Kane is ''He's young'' and ''He's English''. Does this justify the price tag? The second point they make is that he scored loads of goals last season. Charlie Austin is young and English and scored only 3 goals less in a worse team but scored 5 against the top 4 and Liverpool and Southampton, same as Kane. Would anyone spend that much on Austin? I want a striker who will make an immediate impact on the team, a Benzema, I don't believe Kane would and I also think Wilson is actually a better all round player and finisher, he is just a season or 2 behind Kane in his development, physically and mentally. On the flip side, I think you have a point when you say the exoctic names are more appealing. Can you tell me more about this Sergio Redondo?

8.) 12 Jun 2015 14:34:04
ports
very good post that

9.) 12 Jun 2015 14:36:58
Ports,

If you watched Austin and Kane last season you would see exactly why people are talking about Kane as being a lot more expensive, yes Austin scored goals but there is a hell of a lot more to Kane's game than just goals.

10.) 12 Jun 2015 14:45:35
Thank you jred

11.) 12 Jun 2015 14:54:04
i would say kane and austin have a similar game to be honest , although kane has that youthful look about his game.

12.) 12 Jun 2015 15:03:33
Agree with Ports and madness the reported cost of what it would take. No one in their right mind would do this. It takes players to consistent stand out a few seasons before someone forks out that sort of money for them and not after one season.

Believe me if he was worth it Madrid would be the first to come for him.

13.) 12 Jun 2015 16:03:54
Agreed, Ports. I think everyone has forgotten about Wilson. I've watched him for years, and I honestly think he's going to be a top player. Why pay £40m for a player, when we have a lad here who's got the potential (and he's not a kick in the ar$e of it at the minute) to be better still?

But then what do I know? I still think Januzaj's going to be a top player :)

14.) 12 Jun 2015 16:12:17
Ports and jred. Don't you think that the fact that he's young and he still banged in a shedload of goals makes him even more valuable. Why would someone who scored over 20 league goals suddenly become useless overnight? Hen didn't score fluke goals, he scored all types of goals and he's here to stay.

15.) 12 Jun 2015 16:44:02
nomid
cisse for newcastle was the best striker the epl has ever seen for 6 month.
kane is a decent player but i don't think he is any better than benteke for example or lukaku .
i don't think he really has the tools or potential to really push on and be a top player.

16.) 12 Jun 2015 16:53:19
no mid
so of added to my post that at 21 benteke scored 19 league goals for villa.
2 less than the 50 mill kane managed at the same age this season

{Ed007's Note - Ah but did Benteke ever win Young POTY?}

17.) 12 Jun 2015 17:14:45
Aren't Villa wanting about 35 million for Benteke?

18.) 12 Jun 2015 17:27:15
gds

benteke and kane are both decent players.
i would probaly rate benteke higher than kane to be honest.

like i say kane is round about that type of level at best imo

19.) 12 Jun 2015 17:04:58
007
he might of if he was english.

no mid
lukaku got 17 for west brom when he was only 20 years old

20.) 12 Jun 2015 22:52:21
Again from a spurs point of view, benteke and kane are miles apart, kane works a lot harder, he will chase players down and score from anywhere. as for Austin, I like him, good player but let's not forget kane only played from Nov/Dec. As I said he wants to learn and learn whether he stays with us for the foreseeable future? And then moves to a united or Watford? ( he may not improve), but he will always want to learn and at least try and improve. The problem is I like where he's at at the moment. Wouldn't want him doing a tiger Woods and tinkering with his game too much and going backwards. One things for sure the weight of expectation is a heavy weight to burden

04 Jun 2015 12:54:38
If reports are true and we are interested in bringing in another striker/forward (which makes sense with Falcao all but gone and RVP potentially moving on), what are people's thoughts on Lacazette?

I've been watching this lad all year and firmly believe that he would be a wonderful addition to our attacking line. With Rooney in the centre, and two extremely quick forwards around him (Depay and Lacazette on either side), the pace, power and finishing abilities of that front 3 would be mouth-watering.

WF Red Devil

{Ed004's Note - If Lacazette is signed I think we should be looking to gradually replace Rooney. There will be plenty of rotation especially as Lacazette will need time to settle. But signing Depay and him would only be a good thing. Signing two top goal scorers in their respective leagues would certainly help in the goal scoring department.}

1.) 04 Jun 2015 13:33:32
i still think we will go for a lesser name

2.) 04 Jun 2015 13:51:39
Lacazette would be my first choice striker to come in. He has been amazing this season and he reminds of Aguero.

If he were to come it would obviously spell the end to RVP and even Rooney as our first striker.

3.) 04 Jun 2015 14:00:00
On occasion a player emerges that I really really want to sign, Lacazette is one of these. However I will elaborate on this and say it doesn't look likely as the previous two players I've really wanted to sign were Javi Martinez and Benzema.

In conclusion it's not that united don't want to sign him, it's because I do that he won't sign haha.

4.) 04 Jun 2015 14:25:52
Lacazette is a tremendous striker. I doubt a move will be made this year but his most recent comments may have put that into question.

Hi all,

Trust everyone is well.

To throw my 10p into the equation on the LvG scenario, I personally don't think he'll leave this Summer unless a high profile manager is available, and that high profile manager is happy with a 2 year tenure maximum. I don't think it's a coincidence that LvGs 3 year contract coincides with the heavy rumours of a potential sale in 2017. His remit was to stabilize the club on the pitch and bring back Champions League football (to ensure the highest possible revenue), and continue to maintain/increase the value of the Manchester United brand up to point of sale. If he secures Champions League football this season, I don't think the Glazer's will want to jeopardise what might be the final two years of their long term investment but rocking what's looking increasing like a steady ship (well, compared to last season anyway!).

These 2 Paragraphs are exactly the reason why he'll be here.

"Already in January [we began thinking about the 2015/16 season] because we have to prepare our pre-season and Manchester United will go to America," he explained. "The aim is of course that we have to train and not only to play matches. Already for three or four months we are talking about our pre-season.

"We also think about the scouting of players, the scouting of our own players because we have a lot on loan and then we have to analyse their performances, so it’s a lot of work. It’s not only the present season but also what we have to decide for players next season."

The second in particular, seems focused on the scouting. Wouldn't be surprised if he has revamped the network, this along with having all the teams under the first team applying the same playing style means he laying some good foundations

Evening all, well and in good health I trust.

It's commonly agreed that our most important area to strengthen is our CB positions, and some noting that we potential not just one quality CB, but in fact two.

My question is when and if these voids are filled, what's next in terms of top priority for strengthening? For me, I really do think we desperately miss a physical, engine-type midfield enforcer, and have done since Keane left. I like Herrera, Fletcher and have grown to even appreciate Fellaini this season, but neither are going to sit back, control a midfield, lead a team both defensively and offensively but also 'rough it up' a little if need be. Another question is are these 'enforcer type' midfield players still needed in the modern game considering most deep lying midfielders tend to be playmakers now rather than physical beasts who can bully an oppositions midfield? Are the Keane's, Robson's, Gerrard's, Gattuso's and Viera's of this world a dying breed, or simply void through lack of demand in a modern game where technicality, intelligence and flair rule (i.e. the Spanish way).

Would love to get peoples opinions and thoughts on this.

WF Red Devil

WF Red Devil

{Ed004's Note - I still think we are 4 maybe 5 signings away from having a top team. We strengthened a lot during the summer and I reckon Di Maria, Shaw and Herrera should be mainstays in the team, Blind will be great cover and Rojo I am not sure about yet. We definately need a right back as Rafael can not be relied upon due only to injuries. Everyone knows on here how much I rate him when fit. Secondly as you say a world class centre back is required badly. Someone with experience to partner either Rojo or Smalling imo. A midfield enforcer is badly needed as I think we are too lightweight in midfield hence Fellaini playing over Herrera. Most likely Strootman will be signed as LvG is hell bent on getting him if rumours are to be believed but I would probably be happier with Schneiderlin. A winger is a top priority. We are too slow in attack and eventually we will move to a 433 formation anyways (hopefully Januzaj will get more game time in that formation so loan him until next season). Lastly either a striker or box to box midfielder depending on were LvG feels Rooneys best position is in a 433 as I don't think we will make Falcao move permanent. If there are replies to this post containing teams they will be deleted as they take up too much space on the page.}

1.) We need a winger. Too slow going forward right now.

2.) 14 Jan 2015 19:14:01
Yep, agree with you Ed on most of those points. It's such a shame regarding Rafael's injuries because I believe with consistent playing time does breeds maturity and better decision making - two attributes that he's possibly lacked and would potentially complete him as a player.

Agree with the pace comment too. When Di Maria is out we simply lack the penetration to get behind a back 4, and push up as a unit. It just kills us against a lot of teams who have the pace to push I right back.

WF Red Devil

3.) 14 Jan 2015 21:32:12
Coleman, laporte, garay, depay, take your pic for centremid, no idea if we don't sign falcao.

4.) Rumours that muller wants to leave, he'd be the perfect fit for a 4-3-3

{Ed002's Note - Real Madrid don't play that way.}

5.) I agree ed04. i think we need 4 or 5 starters and a couple of further additions to cover positions. i posted this list on the 8thJan.
GK: Valdes
RB: Arias
CB: Varane & Laporte
DM: Strootman
CM: Pogba
FW: Isco/Bale & Dybala

I actually think if we got pogba then strootman could be sctratched from the list as blind or carrick could sit behind him and herrera. I would also prefer Reus to isco/bale, but if he moves to madrid then i would like one of those to come our way. So that would be 4/5 starters and Valdes, Arias and Dybala as squad players for now.
I also mentioned that I thought that potentially we could let 15 players leave which would balance out the squad.

6.) Haha Real Madrid don't play that way; EPIC!

7.) Just regarding a point WF Red Devil made in his Original Post regarding the lack of midfield enforcers.

I disagree, these players are still around, but they are used less often in the modern game. The modern game views tackling as obsolete. If players can read the game and intercept, winning possession that way nullifies that position. I do not agree with it as I always like my team to have atleast 1 physical player in Midfield and 2 others who can read the game and potentially intercept passes.

Wanyama, Matic, Schniderlin, Strootman, Paulinho, Vidal, Pogba Fellaini (when deployed in a deeper role), to name a few, can provide the physicality.

One of the best at reading the game at the moment is Busquets for Barcelona, He positions himself to break up potential attacks and win possession back via interceptions.

As we have seen "The Spanish way" can be beaten and has its own flaws. Whilst I am a fan of this type of player I believe a more physical player at the heart of midfield offers more benefits.

I think Shappy has a point. In my eyes, possession based football is dependant of three critical factors:

1. All Players must have a good level of intelligence, and understand each others strengths and weaknesses.

2. The entire team must be comfortable on the ball. This is particularly critical in that a team could be keeping possession of the ball in a tight situation, only for a single player (who isn't particularly comfortable) to then pump it 40-50 yards over the top.

3. The team needs at least one individual who can turn with the ball and can successfully beat a man. This is critical in the final 3rd as it then creates the necessary space for other players to exploit, and great scoring opportunities.

We have item 3 (in Angel Di Maria) but unfortunately struggle with items 1 and 2.

To be honest, I'm half and half on this one. I do believe LvG should be given the time and support to build 'his' team, and they key being he's not going to build his team in 1 or even 2 transfer windows. . it takes a bit of time. It's for this reason why I supported Moyes, and still feel he wasn't given the chance he perhaps deserved.

However, on some level I can see what Beast is trying to say and can understand why he's worried. It's clear the LvG has a massive ego, and that he has a history for upsetting players. I just hope he's able to reign it in and the let the better parts of his personality/attributes come through.

In essence, I honestly think it's 50/50 as to how LvG will work out at United. He could become a great United manager, and potentially be labelled as the man who proved there's life after Sir Alex. . However on the same coin toss, he could implode and walk out tomorrow stating that he can't work with the players and board.
