Posted a day or so ago saying that I had a guy feeling that this would still be a big window. I don't know anything and I'm certainly not ITK but I still think there's more to come. Di Maria? Vidal? Benatia? Hummels? Cuadrado? Carvalho? Could be an interesting few days ahead.

Interesting from Ballague (Sp). Di Maria to sign next week, €60+, convinced by Ronaldo and will wear number 7. He also said he not be the last signing. Interesting.

I'd just like to say RIP Sandy Busby. The real Son of a Sir Matt. Thoughts with his family.

Son of Sir Matt

1.) Sad news indeed. RIP Sandy. It was an honour to sit in your company and share a drink and your stories less than 12 months ago. God Bless you sir. Thoughts are with Irene and your immediate family

2.) Yeah sad news RIP Sandy.

Anyone else a little concerned that there still seems to be a big hole in the defence? Worse than that is the fact that all the players being linked are midfielders and, although I'd still like Vidal or Carvalho, reports say that Blind will play there. Does anyone else see a deadline day move for Vlaar or is there anyone else that could realistically be signed by the deadline? Running out of time now.

Got a feeling that Di Maria might be the last player signed that will play in the first choice starting 11. Reports over the summer stated that LVG really rated Evans, could he be 1st choice in the middle of the 3 with Rojo and Smalling/Jones either side? LVG has also been quoted saying that Di Maria is a world class midfielder. Not winger, not wing back, midfielder. Could he be planning a very mobile, pacey and quick thinking midfield three of Herrera, Di Maria and Mata? Shaw and Valencia as wing-backs with Rooney and RVP up top? Any other players that may be purchased, like Blind or De Jong, would be used tactically depending on the opposition. Just a thought, and I think it would be a very weak midfield defensively, but one for discussion. Also, for the record I REALLY want to see Vidal in that midfield, and if he is signed I'll re-think this post.

Son of Sir Matt

1.) Don't think he'd really rate Evans after that shocker

Have u seen the MK dons game if UTD don't buy at least 4 more players they will not get close to 4th. After the dross of the premier league games I have now be witness to a new level of football that I didn't think existed outside the sunday pub league. Nick Powell has had the worse 45 minutes I have ever seen on a pitch and in janko they have unearthed another footballer who cannot cross a ball amazing. This team is in big trouble glossing over it with Di Maria will achieve nothing. Messi couldn't save this shambles £200 million spent in a year and we are here. Someone needs to get hold of LVG and tell him to forget his philosophy the defenders at this club are not top flight quality no composure and useless when they have the ball at feet. Jones always looks good making last ditch tackles that is because he is always out of position and fails to read the game. Sorry about the rant but I am disgusted with the running of this club Smalling, Young, Jones, Evans, Fellani, Kagawa, Valencia, Hernandes, Wellbeck, Cleverly, Anderson are and never have been top players yet we have managed to find them all a job, who realistically would sign these players we can't give most of them away. Fergie has to take the rap for this sat back and let this happen knowing it wouldn't be his problem

3.) Ok. I disagree with my own post. United need defenders.

4.) 26 Aug 2014 21:53:52
Nothing like an overreaction rant to a league cup game where no first team players played except the keeper.

5.) A load of kids, players in the shop window and the worst player on the pitch bar none is Evans. Even Vermijl (a RB) is doing a better job.

It's a lesson for the kiddies though and a lesson for LvG. Always play Wilson from the start :)

6.) Jaimej79, calm down, this isn't the first team. It's kids, shop window players and one returning from injury.

The first team wouldn't have lost by a four goal margin :0)

In all seriousness if we had started with the U21's, just the U21's, we wouldn't have done much worse.

7.) Good job di maria signed before tonights game otherwise I think he would of legged it :( absolutely shocking

8.) Haha the knees are jerking! I think a reaction is coming :)

9.) @jaimej79
I understand that people are allowed to have their opinion, but almost every single post you have posted is negative. What is the point of posting the same garbage over and over again.

10.) Beast must be writing a book right now

11.) Gds wellbeck, hernandez januzai and evans are 1st team players and should be ashamed of there performance.until wilson came on we hadnt had an attempt on target.we were second best all over the pitch and mk dons wanted it a lot more than utd.i don't care wether its u18, u21, s or 1st team you need the right attitude and desire to win, other than a few of the younger players I didn't see that tonight.

12.) GDS2 can you hand on heart say you think this formation will work out for us??

13.) It was a poor side. I am concerned about the system though. I just hope the players we have to come in can vastly increase our level of performance and get that system working.

14.) Di Maria? Can he play centre half or just as a wing back?

15.) 26 Aug 2014 23:35:56
John,

Evans hasn't played for 4 weeks and was expected to play the full game in a back 3 with 2 very inexperienced players. Welbeck and Hernandez are both up for sale and januzaj just had a poor game. Wilson the only positive to come from tonight, what a player he is going to be, will save us a hell of a lot of money on an rvp replacement in 2-3 years time I tell you that much.

Red79,

Not sure I've commented on the formation, I think it's too early to tell, I think it it one that if used correctly with the right personnel will work for us, but I think it needs to be more fluid and less obvious.

Tonight was the biggest win of them mk dons players careers, for united it was just a capital one cup game, that's the difference in desire to want to win the game.

16.) I understand that GDS2 but the problem is we don't have the players to play this formation so why keep playing it one of the things that annoyed me most about fergie and then moyes was playing people out of position regularly the prime example here is the wingback situation we have wingers not wingbacks there is so much difference between these 2 positions but they are crucial for the 352 to work would you play rvp at cb of course not so why continue to play wingers as defenders especially when we don't have any dm who can help cover for me with the squad how it was we should of just stuck with 442 and tried to remain solid whilst we recruited the new players we needed.

I'm not going to come out and say that I'm delighted with signings this summer, but people need to take a step back and look at the positives. This summer United have brought in a VERY promising central midfielder, a position that has been lacking a player of his energy for years. A young and talented English player has been signed that could realistically represent the club for 15 years. Most importantly one of the world's most respected managers is now in charge. Have faith folks, this next few years might be a little difficult to stomach as I can see City dominating at home and in Europe, but rebuilds take time. Also, there's still a couple of weeks to get that big signing that we all want.

Son of Sir Matt

1.) It's all very well to look at the positives - but we have a weaker squad than last year, have strengthened less than teams who already had better squads than us and most annoyingly; have failed to get rid of any of the players who clearly do not have a future with the club.

2.) I can see Herrera being a massive hit this season. The guy is tailored made for the PL imo.

3.) We have not invested properly since the Glaziers took over and we continue to loose players down to money and not going the extra yard. We have a new manager who will help turn us around but he can't play 3 at the back with 3 cb's! We have Evans (already injured) Smalling (waiting to be injured) and Jones ( I will injure myslef) and people think that's enough to replace Ferdiand, Vidic and Evra. Granted the 2 players who have come in are good but not enough to sort a squad that has needed investment for past 3 years. What happened to 80 million for Ronaldo? We all know so know need to reply! We are not the biggest club in the world despite what Woodwood says. Yanks telling us how big we are doesn't mean it's true.

This will be controversial I know, but I think Rooney is the problem, not the solution. He has been playing well this year, but I think he's preventing United from evolving. With him and RVP in the team Moyes has to play 4-4-2/ 4-4-1-1. Or you play him deeper where he isn't as influential and just pings balls wide to our ineffective wingers. Without him it would be easier to play a much more fluid formation 4-5-1/ 4-2-3-1/ 4-3-3/ 4-3-2-1. All of these formations possible with the same starting 11.

Sell Rooney, sign 2 quality central midfielders to play with Carrick. Shinji & Janujaz off RVP. Control midfield, keep possession with quick passing and start scoring more goals from all over the pitch.

Just a theory.

Son of Sir Matt

1.) Dont you think the problem is then with "ineffective wingers"?

2.) LOL . M laughing my ass up here . U want to sell the same player which is the main source of goals in our team . the only player who can change the game anytime . I feel sad that being a striker he is the one who runs backwards to collect pass from defenders. RIP to your logic mate

3.) May I call you Sandy?

So whilst the team is struggling you want to sell our best player and btw our only player other teams have shown any interest in?

Rooney has proved on countless occasions over the last 10 years that he can effectively adapt his game to many different formations.

I say we should try to keep our best players, Rooney and RVP and try to mould what we have with hopefully a couple of additions around them. I know RVP has had injury issues this season but maybe that was down to the new backroom staff and just maybe they all learn from their mistakes?

Imo we have not added enough new faces to the squad over the last four years thus, our oppenents know too much abourt us, Kagawa was bought in but as yet has been mainly ineffective.

The failure to refresh our attacking opptions has lead the the likes of Carrick, Vidic, Evra and Ferdinand being exposed to pace.

4.) Worst theory ever, we do need a few players but not at the expense of our best get rid of the wasters Anderson, Nani and co and then sign the players we need

5.) 04 Jan 2014 13:29:57
Rooney is a class player. But he loose himself way too often and that effect his performance. He is also at an astonishing wage. and its pitty we are playing a striker as ACM.
40 mill. and I would drive him personally.

6.) 04 Jan 2014 13:30:44
The Only Club who would sign ANDERSON AND YOUNG would be Manchester United RESERVE.

7.) Sell Rooney? I've heard it all now.
Also, you're forgetting one small thing, rvp seems to be permanently injured this season.
If anything, we need to sell hernandez and get Diego Costa or do a swap plus cash with athletico.

8.) Son of Matt - Spot on mate, I will write why in a moment.

It's fine saying that United want rid, Syd, but if no-one wants them, they'll have to stay.

Offering Juve Kagawa, Hernandez and £10million would be no good to them, would it? Aren't they struggling financially? Wouldn't it be better for Woodward to offer them what they want for the player and stop messing about like he did last summer with Fabregas and Thiago?

It isn't €9M, it's €20M. The press release from Sporting states that €9M from the transfer will be spent on improving their stadium. It's a down payment of €10M with two separate €5M instalments. Plus Nani for the season.

I'm with you on that. Would've liked a world class centre half but Blind is the defensive midfielder that was needed.

Or he plans to play 1 striker in a 4-3-3? If that's the case Rooney and Wilson would probably be enough with di Maria and Januzaj as potential back up in emergencies.

This is the system that I think Van Gaal wants to play. I can't see how he guys Rooney and RVP in though. I'd play Rooney wide left with di Maria on the right but Rooney isn't the traditional winger that LVG likes. I wouldn't be surprised to see one of Rooney/RVP sold at some stage in the next few windows to make way for an established winger.

I get the feeling that there aren't many on here that remember united pre Fergie. I'm not saying that I have much memories of that time myself, I'm only 32, but I think people need to realise we've all been spoilt rotten for the last 20 odd years. Teams don't normally win everything every year. Fergie was a genius and united's dominance was a freak of nature. Calm down and let Van Gaal do his job, he might be quite good at it.
