Very excited about the return of Ronaldo, hope he is used right and maybe his biggest impact will be on team mentality. 20+ goals wouldn't hurt either.

Quiz: who is he likely to play against this season in the Premier League that he played against last time round? PL only, not CL There's at least one, and still at the same club.

Coleman?

{Ed077's Note - Mark Noble is one guy I can think of, off the top of my head.

Mark Noble?

3.) 29 Aug 2021 16:02:44
I was thinking of Coleman too and to be fair i cheated. I Googled him and he went at Everton the same year Ronaldo left.

Welp, moving on from yesterday’s performance. 3 points in the bag is all I can say about it

As for who has played PL v Ronaldo first time found and could play against him again second time round, Mark Noble is one. Although his playing time with the Hammers is more limited now

The other is Ashley Young, back at Villa.

Of the Utd squad from his last year, he will almost certainly face Jonny Evans at Leicester. Maybe Danny Wellbeck at Brighton.

Guys - you're all missing the biggest positive of the summer for the club. For the first time since the 1988/ 89 season, we are going into a third season in a row with the same manager. OK, we finished 11th that year, but I'm sure it won't be "3 years of excuses. ta-ra Jose". Right? Right?

We had the best defensive record (I think) in the prem last season, but the goals per game cost us the prem, ie we couldn’t score, with the purchase of Fred,
Hopefully lulu Sanchez Tony and rashford step up a tad, bit disappointed we didn’t add to the defence squad, but again there’s the young lads to state their cases,
8-1 Utd to win prem title. But it’s going to be between us and the scousers fighting for it this season,
Utd made a profit on transfers this window, and I think we’re in a better position, despite the media assassination of Jose.

{Ed025's Note - so city dont come in to it jock?..

Ed0025 -I do think City are now going to throw everything at conquering the Champions League which often hinders league success in the modern game. We will have to see. The league won't be enough for Pep this year I wouldn't think. That being said you don't win the title that comfortably by luck.

{Ed025's Note - of course he wants the CL rosie, but the prem is the bread and butter and they are not odds on for nothing mate, if a team finishes above city then they win the league..its a simple as that..

A few points on reflexion from a non England fan:

I'd forgotten all about Adnan! Had such high hopes for him, reminded me of Laudrup - both of them!

Fellaini was one of the best on the pitch tonight. I don't want to see him start a game in our midfield, but with 10 or 15 to go and needing a goal, he is a great option to bring on

Rashford has found himself one on one with the keeper several times and fluffs it every time. All pace, but quality? Not enough for me.

Marcus has all the quality it's his decision making that needs to improve. On his big chance he had to fake the shot and go round Courtois, who was positioned very far to his left knowing Marcus wanted to go with his right. That variety in his game will come with experience I have no doubt.

Played well the wig far better than dier.

If ETH has indeed lost the dressing room, then the new ownership can’t happen soon enough and it needs to make changes from day one. The players seem to expect new owners and the structure they bring in to want to want to change the manager, so they smell ETH’s blood and have downed tools. Why would you do all that extra running and implement a manager’s instructions when you know he’ll be gone soon anyway. They have plenty of form for that

On the other hand, if the new ownership plan to stick with ETH then they need to make that unequivocally clear instantly and lay down the law. Players can then either fall into line or clear off as part of a rebuild

Fans seem pretty divided now on support for the manager, but for my two cents I’d rather see the latter of the above two scenarios happen. I do have questions over ETH - in particular why he continually selects these players who let him down constantly. But one way or another, things are about to change soon. Hopefully for the better, and not another rinse and repeat cycle as mentioned.

Agree 100% Tim, we need to keep him and use him. I’d love to see the lad get more game time off the bench and in the cups, there’s a lot of potential there. The competition would help spur Anthony on too.

Lots of pace, but no quality on the ball. He can get on the end of scrappy things in the 6 yard box, but the way we use him he gets most of his possession out wide where he lacks the ability to make things happen. Very disciplined though, will do whatever is asked of him, which is why he is a favourite of Jose.

For me he is getting a bit of a free ride at the minute as all the attention is on Pogba, Sanchez, Lukaku, Matic etc.

The non-Man Utd supporting Eds are one of my favourite things about these pages. Ed001 with his irrefutable common sense (and top class daily articles), Ed007 and his stinging Glasgow wit, Ed025 and his unbiased neutrality, amongst others. And all highly valued opinions. It's not like any of the Eds ever come on here and throw out a toxic insult or 2. Right? So please continue to contribute, inform, challenge, and entertain Eds. Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - cheers Johnny. Even though Ed025 has terrible taste in football teams, I am surprised anyone could want him to not be involved in a discussion. It is very rare he and I agree on anything, he likes yawnfests like golf and cricket, I find them boring, he is a blue, I am a red etc etc, but I really enjoy what he has to say anyway. He is a genuinely nice guy with an interesting take on things.}
