Ed002 - with it being obvious Pogba and Lukaku wanting to leave. Do you think this will happen? Or does it depend if the club can get amicable replacements?

Thanks

Calvin.

Calvin

{Ed002's Note - I expect both to go.}

1.) 07 Jul 2019 13:57:12
Any idea on who they would replace them with?

Thanks

Calvin.

{Ed002's Note - For midfield the club want Saul Niguez but cost and a possible reluctance to move remain an issue. Ivan Rakitic has been considered but the funds are available to make an offer for old second choice Sergej Milinkovic-Savic who is available and cheaper than their first choice, but also attrracting interest from elsewhere. There is no decision on a striker, or preference as far as I know but: Sebastien Haller (S) OGS has had SH watched as a potential replacement for Lukaku if he is not priced out of a move - it makes little sense to me
Wissam Ben Yedder (S) has been offered to MU for €40M cash - again makes little sense.)

2.) 07 Jul 2019 14:26:21
Thanks Ed002

Are the reports that Real Madrid are prepared to offer Isco for Pogba true?

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Real Madrid will offer as many of the surplus players that they can to bring down the price of Pogba. Up to now MU have shown no interest in taking players in exchange.}

3.) 07 Jul 2019 14:29:15
Savic would be a great choice his along with Fernandes. fingers crossed.

4.) 07 Jul 2019 15:09:19
Thank you soooo much for all additional info and thoughts Ed003, very much appreciated!

5.) 07 Jul 2019 15:33:33
Oops Ed002 lol!

6.) 07 Jul 2019 16:59:29
Ed, just want to say thank you and let you know that we all appreciate your input on this page. You've given loads of new info recently and don't want you thinking we take you for granted, so thanks from everyone I'm sure.

{Ed002's Note - You are very sweet Elvis.}

7.) 07 Jul 2019 19:32:35
Well said Elvis! I echo his words ed. Your insight is incredible so thank you. And that’s to all the Eds who make this such a great site.

8.) 08 Jul 2019 05:47:31
Thank you Ed :)

Ed002 when or if you ever get chance could you do us a summary of this transfer window and possibly let us know which players we were defenitly interested in doing a deal for be quite interested in seeing if the so called top journalists do have any idea about the club thanks in advance

Calvin

{Ed002's Note - (1) Martial - a lot is expected of him, Guy Hillion had Chelsea in there talking about him when they were discussing loans with Monaco and they would have gone to €20M - probably a fair price and certainly their limit. Manchester United has paid well over the odds for him. (2) Schneiderlin - a very good player who will be fine. (3) Depay is a real talent but it is yet to be seen if Depay is really ready for a full season in England. Might be a year too early. (4) Darmain was of interest to MU last summer and would have moved to Chelsea as a replacement for Ivanovic if he had left this summer. Plenty of interest from the leading clubs in Europe - excellent buy although far from first choice at MU. (5) I think Schweinsteiger was a dumb move - he should have chosen options he had in the United States. (6) Romero is nothing special - journeyman goalkeeper and not a long-term solution. De Gea staying fouled up those plans and the whole matter should have been dealt with earlier. (7) Centre Back - putting aside the kiddie I know nothing of, this was probably the real mistake of the summer. Starting out looking for one and possibly even two centre backs and getting nothing was probably disappointing for many. Hummels was the primary although unrealistic target. There was a simple obtainable solution with Garay and Kongolo that could have been completed very early on. Even as a last minute buy, the affordable Nkoulou was being touted around.

So a couple of risky buys, overspending and one pretty dumb buy - plus failing to address the CB issue. Probably not a bad summer if you are realistic.}

1.) 02 Sep 2015 09:02:42
Many thanks to Ed002 for her overall assessment of transfer activity this summer. Is there any chance, please, of commenting more about the striker situation, which worries me almost as much ss CB? Was Martial really the only/first choice and what about the departures of Van Persie, Hernandez, Facoa, Henriquez (not forgetting loan of Januzai) before only a single replacement striker was signed?
Red Setter

{Ed002's Note - You have to keep in mind that you are talking about fringe players and players who did not play a lot of games. MU still has options going forward.

But others were looked at (and they decided to go elsewhere or no effort was made): Aleksandar Mitrović (went to Newcastle), Santos' Gabriel Barbosa (was never going to happen), Cavani (not at that price given his age and his wages), Benzema (never pushed by MU), Ings (went to Liverpool but would probably not been viable), Mandzukic (whilst his agent said there was interest I very much doubt it), Muller (was never a viable option), Bakkali (interest dropped), Kenedy (tried very hard but was never going to move anywhere but London).}

2.) 02 Sep 2015 09:55:19
Thank you so much Ed002 for detailed evaluation of United transfer window - really appreciated. Overall a success I think - maybe LvG wasn't determined enough to bring in CB because of Blind's performances and having Rojo, Jones and McNair in reserve.

Thank you also to all the other Eds for your consistent hard work and patience when dealing with the paranoia of us football fans desperate for any news. This is an amazing site (would love to know readership stats!) and we're lucky to have it. I'm a constant daily visitor and look forward to hearing how United will win the league in the next couple of years (though think City will be hard to catch this year! Maybe we're battling for second!)

3.) 03 Sep 2015 18:35:11
Hi Ed002, good to have you back, i'm going to disagree with you on the Schweinsteiger transfer. While his best days maybe behind him, he looks like a natural leader and knows how to win, something that the current squad, I believe, lacks. He already seems to be organising the team on the pitch and encouraging the youngsters and I think he is someone who the rest of the squad will look up to. I think this leadership and experience will be invaluable next year as we fight it out for a Champions League place and hopefully a cup.

{Ed002's Note - So you think he is worth more than £15M a year in wages? Those sorts of wages you could build a team of has beens and great leaders.}

4.) 04 Sep 2015 20:23:38
£15 million a year, do you think he needs a PA to stock his fridge and choose his clothes.

27 Jun 2015 20:23:39
Ed001 noticed a few days ago that you didn't think ramos would move and more than likely just wanted a new contract, just out of interest has your opinion changed at all recently and can you see him coming to us??

Cheers

Calvin

{Ed001's Note - they have been at each other's throat a bit, Perez thinks Ramos has too much power, but I can't see anyone paying the money they will want for him at the age he is. So I do expect him to end up agreeing a deal in the end.}

1.) 28 Jun 2015 14:15:54
Maybe the Madrid negotiations are actually for Varane? Ramos could just be the smokescreen. De Gea and 15 Mil wouldn't be a bad deal.

18 Jan 2015 15:50:19
Dont know how true this is but had a customer in my work yesterday who was adamant he was talking to someone who works for a sponsor of man utd.they were supposedly telling him that the messi camp have asked us to put an offer on the table in the summer and messi would be very interested in the move.like i say not trying to be in the know or out just what this person said in my work and all i know he is a very wealthy businessman who wouldn't have any reason to make things up

Calvin

1.) 18 Jan 2015 15:54:39
Lovely though, never going to happen. Even with our financial resources we wouldn't commit £200 million to one player in a transfer fee alone. Messi will remain at Barcelona much longer than L. Enrique will.

2.) 18 Jan 2015 18:16:29
If this was true I would imagine it being used as leverage in his contract/demands with Barca. Ifound he did move then the old Barca connections at City would be more obvious. .maybe he could sign for AdeLaide/new York and turn out for city anyway!!

3.) 18 Jan 2015 18:46:16
I've missed these kind of stories, that's what this website was built on! Haha.

4.) 19 Jan 2015 10:07:38
£200m???? wages, transfer fee, taxes etc. etc, it would be over £500m for us to buy Messi

Quick question for Ed002

Ive seen reports saying falcao is actually with us permanently but for ffp we are classing the first year as a loan?is there any truth in this?

Calvin

{Ed002's Note - No but there is an option to buy after a year.}

1.) Has a price been agreed at which we can purchase him at?

Thanks

{Ed002's Note - Yes Calvin but it is of little consequence as it would likely be up for negotiation next year if Manchester United were to buy him.}

2.) Hope we don't buy him after the loan. He'll be 29 once the loan is over and that is the same age RVP was when we bought him. We need somebody who's like 24-26.

3.) 9matt2

the difference is falcao is prob the best goal scorer in the world

4.) I think everything is agreed for us to sign him permanently at the end of the season if he has a good season. His agent has reportedly said it is a permanent move and when they asked Falcao if he had a message for the fans he said 'I hope I can give them a lot of happiness, goals and titles'. To me that sounds like he intends to stay for more than this season considering he said titles, it can also be put down to him not speaking very good english lol, I guess we'll find out come the end of the season.

5.) It seems obvious the fee's quoted in the press are suspect, but Monaco could have obviously got around £40m for Falcao at 28 in the current transfer environment. (Provided injuries have not put teams off.)

How the loan deal makes any sense for Monaco I don't know. From their perspective, it would have made sense to create an obligation to purchase next year, like Valencia's Negrado deal. Falcao's transfer value will surely depreciate by 30-50% come next year.

Sneijder was a similar story. At 27 he was worth £40m, age 28 - £26m. By the time he joined Galatasaray at 29 he was worth as little as £12 odd million. Its debatable whether Sneijder was worth £40m to begin with, but there's no doubt a players value depreciates quickly once they pass 27 years old.

6.) I think there is a big difference between a playmaker like Sneijder and a striker like Falcao when it comes to age.

Such as Gerrard, Pirlo, Xavi, Iniesta are still going strong into there 30's.

Whereas players like RVP, Berbatov and struggling with injuries, losing pace and that crucial finish.

7.) Dont even mention berbatov in the same sentence as van percie.

Ed002 - Are there any talks on going between Man Utd and Sporting regarding Fernandes? Also, on the Spurs page you've said they will look to sign one player if Eriksen leaves. Which clubs hold an interest in Eriksen?

Thanks in advance.

Calvin.

Calvin

{Ed002's Note - (a) I don't do blow-by-blow updates. (b) Try the Spurs page.}

Ed002 what is your opinion on the current situation at man utd? would you stick with lvg and let him finish his contract? how long can the club see us playing so poorly? i'd like lvg to finish his work but surely we need to see improvements on the pitch? i only ask this question to see an outsiders opinion

Thanks.

Calvin

{Ed002's Note - Calvin - I have explained my view on matters.}

28 Dec 2015 23:07:58
Ed002 quick question

I noticed the other day you mentioned that if lvg fulfilled his contract then allegri would have an offer for 5 years from 2017 now IF lvg does see this bad period out and finishes his contract then will the board stick to the original plans or does it look as though we will have to change them?

Thanks in advance.

Calvin

{Ed002's Note - That is the long term plan the business has - but assuming the pestilent fans get their way that plan will be gone completely. By 2017 Allegri may of course not be interested.}

1.) 29 Dec 2015 08:31:02
Hi Ed002

With that plan in mind, i am just wondering where that would leave giggs? A couple of times I've heard lvg refer to giggs as his successor especially when talking about buying young players with the future in mind.

Have the club had a change of heart on giggs or was he not really in their immediate thoughts for becoming manager to begin with?

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - The club has not planned on Giggs as the successor to van Gaal otherwise it would have been a simple thing to have removed him last week when the toxics started bleating and put Giggs in place. Perhaps he will get to sit in later in the season once he has been driven from the club?}

2.) 29 Dec 2015 09:00:15
Thanks ed!

3.) 29 Dec 2015 11:46:32
Is Allegri likely to be available any sooner? At the end of the season?

{Ed002's Note - No.}

23 May 2014 23:08:25
So we rule out going for kroos and now the guardian are reporting the deal for shaw is stalling?cant see why we are messing around with this deal surely they don't think evra can play week in week out all season?

I was looking forward to the close season and was expecting some good players to come in and freshen the squad up but the last couple of days are starting to feel a hell of a lot like last Summer but let's just hope these reports are wrong and ed proves to us he actually knows what he is doing!

Calvin

1.) You do know the window isn't open yet?

2.) Same here mate, i'm starting to fear a repeat of last summer. Don't think Van Gaal will take to the clown that is Woodward.

Question I've been asking myself most recently.

Everyone (journalists included) seems to knock or praise every team and has opinion about how all the teams should play. If that's the case why don't they work as coaches etc?

Honestly don't get it? We all claim to know ehich players as good and bad but don't have any experience in the top tear level of football? Who are we to judge their opinions?

Thanks.

Calvin
