Apparently we have inquired about Sterling? Don't get it. if he goes to any of the heavy hitters in the league lfc certainly would't allow it to be Mufc. But then again surely United aren't just trolling,we are above that. Has his agent intimated that he would like the move if it was possible?

Maybe Liverpool are using United here to show defiance to their fans. We won't sell to United, making a sale to Arsenal/City more acceptable.

2.) 21 May 2015 09:50:08
Well Ed1 has confirmed there was an enquiry. The way I see it is Sterling holds all the cards, if he decides he wants to go to X club his agent could tell X club and they in turn tell Liverpool either you sell him to us now or next year he buys out his contract (Not as basic as it sounds, search Webster ruling for more info) and comes to us with you getting little to no compensation. This is all very simplified of course but it puts Liverpool in a tough situation where Sterling can within reason call the shots and force a transfer to any club that offers Liverpool a reasonable sum for the lad.

My personal opinion however is that there is more chance of Anderson getting fit than there is that Sterling plays for MUFC next year.

3.) 21 May 2015 10:10:53
An enquiry in private that became public somehow. Liverpool are playing games IMO and have every intention of selling - as they did with Suarez - knowing that the player wants out. It's about timing and price and placating their angry fans (and pundits!!)

4.) 21 May 2015 16:55:22
I'd be gutted to pay over £40 million for Sterling. I don't usually care how much a player costs as long as he is the right one but Sterling is quite simply not worth anything over £20 million. Yes he has some tricks, and yes he is young but he still has such a long way to go - especially his finishing.

So pleased we have Memphis instead.

United announce fresh share offerings. Interesting

BornIntoIt

1.) Only interesting if you're a owner, money is all going to them nothing to the running of the club, can't really moan we all would if we could, make 150m and nothing changes with controlling the club business men make money

2.) With zero money going into the club by all accounts.

3.) Did I say the funds would go into the club? I can't see them doing this if they are not going to be upgrading the squad significantly further from the money that's already there.

4.) They're taking advantage if the share price rise since LVG joined to make some quick cash. For themselves

Ed002, you mentioned Cuadrado needs to make a decision on his transfer to Barcelona in the next week. Do you know what might be holding up an immediate acceptance on his part? Or is it simply a case of being prudent?

{Ed002's Note - No idea.}

The reliable Macca of the Liverpool page has just said we will sign Pogba. Wow. Proxy Trolling?

BornIntoIt

{Ed091's Note - its very left field, but macca is certainly not a troll.

1.) 29 Jun 2016 23:41:21
Tongue and cheek, Ed. I'm just a bit flabbergasted. Trying my best here not to lose it. I give more credence to what he says than a breaking Sly, yellow banner.

2.) 29 Jun 2016 23:56:19
Maccas been very reliable for years.

3.) 30 Jun 2016 05:56:47
Liverpool fan here:
Not sure why Utd are so desperate to sign Pogba. Granted he is one of the best in his position, but he wants to play for Real and that itself should be enough to switch a club like Utd's attention elsewhere. A transfer fee of around 100 million and another 250k a week salary is just ridiculous.
There are plenty of other quality mids around that would love to play for Jose.

4.) 30 Jun 2016 06:59:38
Indian buzzer

I would also be worried if we signed a player whos main ambition was to play europa league which is the level we are at right now. We have to accept that we will not always be a players first choice.

5.) 30 Jun 2016 07:26:29
DSG, my backside has more ambition than football players.
Pogba's a mercenary who wants money, fame and anything he can get his hands on. Joining Real will give him that, take his stature to a new level and make him a marketing machine. Not only that, Madrid's a much better place to live than Manchester. If u think winning trophies is why Pogba wants Real, your mistaken.
Playing UCL football is just a poor pathetic excuse for footballers to keep fans off their backs. If Pogba is so ambitious, why not stay where he is and win Serie A every year and challenge for UCL? Or is it because Juve cannot afford his ridiculous wage demands and his agent sees Man Utd or Real as a way out to make even more money?
If UCL is so precious to footballers, then why are world class players not queuing up and begging Spurs or Leicester to sign them? I will tell u why: both clubs have a wage structure they do not want to break and will not pay over the odds for big egos. that's why.

6.) 30 Jun 2016 07:42:58
Indian, u say that about Leicester and spurs but at the same time there not queuing up to join Liverpool who don't have as strict a wage budget.

We will struggle to get anywhere near the money back? So he comes in, does well and we sell at a loss? Odd.

7.) 30 Jun 2016 07:44:22
Same goes for Mkhitaryan and Mane. Why does Micky want to leave a Champions League club for one in Europa? Why was he not interested in a move to Arsenal who are also in UCL next season? Its because of the money, nothing to do with ambition. Man Utd are paying him and his agent more than Arsenal or Dortmund could afford.
Same goes for Mane, moving from a club in Europa to one without any European football.

8.) 30 Jun 2016 08:55:17
Of course it's about the money every thing is about money I don't see why players get slated for this they have the talent unfortunately it's only for a relatively short period that this talent can be utilized players being the human beings that they are will take advantage and earn as much as possible when they still can I would challenge anybody who would do differently to speak up. It's their job am sure all who read this are constantly looking for a better deal in whatever they do day in day out its the world we live in accept it move on. Let's not forget before he left he really did want to play for us it's not his fault that he didn't.

9.) 30 Jun 2016 09:31:53
Obviously money has something to do with it but there are still players out there that want to play for Manchester United, we still have that pull as much as other clubs fans would love to think we don't anymore. I have a Liverpool mate who keeps saying 'why would so and so want to come to you, you aren't a big club anymore'. He said it about Mourinho, and has said it about a few of our signings, yet for some reason they keep wanting to come to this 'small club'.

Being able to offer great wages has also come from the success we have had in building the club up to be so big, so no point in complaining about the kind of player that brings.

10.) 30 Jun 2016 10:37:43
The culture in football for hating on players for going after money is crazy.

Big Al, Always enjoyed your posts. You're passionate and reasonable Liverpool fan (Hence why I ignore the Liverpool part) But you are drowning in sour grapes at the moment. No doubt the EPL has fallen behind La Liga- but hey that's Football. Club and League dominance run in cycles. With United finally breaking the bank ( Their own bank for that matter) and Arsenal willing to add on an extra zero to transfer fees and wages and Mourinho being Mourinho I think you'll see the league drastically improve over the coming years along with the the big tv deals distributed throughout the league.

If you think three players and Klopp can make your lot league contenders again and a threat on the European stage then I just can not take you seriously anymore. I will however give you the benefit of the doubt and put it down to cognitive dissonance. Brought on by the realization that last year was a false dawn for Liverpool FC.

Decades of Liverpool Failure are not confined to the past and washed aside by the perennial, abject motto of "There is always next year". No. It has taken its pound of flesh on the club financially.Which means, like an aging Gerrard, you are 5 yards of the pace at the start of any season. But perhaps most crippling is the psyche of the club. The Capitulation against Palace last year and the dire spirit shown against Villa yesterday are not aberrations but a faithful addition to Liverpool canon of the last 30 years.

There is a correlation between revenues and results, and United's, without Champions League, are 140m a year more than Liverpool's. If we make the top 4 and Liverpool don't, I would expect that gap to widen giving us even more advantage.

Money isn't everything. Managers can make a difference too, but right now no one seems to think BR is up to the job, whereas LVG has silenced or at least muted his detractors, and got us playing quite well.

Do Liverpool have the resources to play with the big boys. Can they hold on to their best players? Can they pay the wages? Can they compete for the best? My guess is not.

2.) 20 Apr 2015 15:55:22
Apparently, they are going to sign Falcao.
As poor as the guy has been, I am not sure he would sign for them. Not if he has offers from clubs playing in the CL next season.

3.) 20 Apr 2015 20:09:12
I wouldn't buy Falcao but I would consider another loan season if the terms were favourable and on the assumption we make it into the Champions League. The wages would have to be much more performance based, and the loan fee would need also need to be much reduced. The guy has European experience and that could be invaluable. Yes, his performances have been very poor, and Saturday reinforced the sense that he is surplus to requirements from a United point of view, but for some reason I keep thinking that with another summer to recuperate and to work with LVG, he could quite possibly return to form.

22 Mar 2015 23:48:52
Poor Stevie G:"He was just frustrated that he was left on the bench" "He hasn't seen anybody make a tackle in the first half and got carried away" "He played with his heart and had a moment of madness"

"But sure wasn't great to see a player come out and face the cameras and own the mistake and apologize to his teammates"

Just paraphrasing some of the absolute drivel I heard from some pundits across several different broadcasters today. United players were justifiably slaughtered from all quarters for diving recently. I wonder if the two stamps today will get anywhere near that word count of ridicule.

Where is the pressure from the media on Rodgers and Liverpool? If United were 5 points behind a Champions League spot you best believe the club and manager wouldn't be in danger of not being reminded about it at every turn. And yet a club that has been in the top 4 for several months has had heaps of pressure thrown at the them at the mere possibility of dropping out?

BornIntoIt,

I think that just shows who are the bigger / better club at the moment (and for the last 20 years), as much as Liverpool fans will try and make you believe different United sells, there are a lot of fans and media who would love to see United fail as it gives them something to write about.

The Liverpool love in last season from the press and the whole FA Cup final on Gerrard's birthday thing we have to hear about every 10 minutes just make it even more funny to me when they fail. I like how much we are hated, it makes it so much more sweet when we get results like yesterday.

22 Mar 2015 23:29:27
An absolute disgrace of a challenge. And how the ref didn't pick it up is equally as disgrace. The FA are going to have to start offering Ryan Giggs more protection on the sidelines. This is the second time in a month that he has been viciously assaulted by LVG. The Sly Dutchman using the cloak of celebration to leave a late one on poor Ryan.

Sambo, we are not loaning him out for experience. We need to find a buyer because he has no place at this club. So hopefully he has a decent season in Italy and either Napoli or another club take the plunge for him.

If I'm not wrong, I seem to remember Ed 002 suggesting that 2017 could see the Glazers looking to sell. And although he/ she is not one to speculate, they did suggest a Chinese consortium of sorts to be a possibility.

Shaw just needs to go off and have a good long rest and watch his diet. If he and ADM can put injuries and inconsistencies behind them it will be like two new signings.

It's a pity that we had to fall so far for people to really appreciate what Carrick brings to the table.
