Its obvious we need to rest some of our players for the Fullham game.

Looking at our options we have decent options for the front three though not the best Sanchez/ martial lukaku mata might do the job resting Lingard and rash.

But our midfield is where our squad is the thinnest other than pogba, matic and herrera we only have Fred, Perreira, McTominay and Mason Greenwood (may be shouldn't have allowed Fellaini to leave without replacement) . Seems impossible to rest all three of our starting midfielders, at least one or two of the three needs to start and if they did it will be very difficult for us to play PSG in three days.

In defense for full backs we have Shaw, Dalot, young, valencia and darmian not too bad we should be able to manage, with valencia's latest video on Insta he is seems too desperate for a chance :) . And CB also we can manage as Lindelof might be able to start most of the games with jones, smalling, bailley rojo to rotate. But its scary to think of a partnership without Lindelof.

How you guys think Ole would manage not dropping points in the league also stay competing in champions league?

Under the circumstances if we are still unbeaten at the end of this month Ole should get the job full time.

Agree9 Disagree3

We rotated a small bit against Burnley and struggled to play the way we have been. We're covering a lot more ground than those players are used to and it's already showing at the end of games, there is a considerable drop off in terms of intensity.

But this is how Ole earns his corn. As you said, it's really only the midfield that seems slightly shirt but we still should have enough to rotate and beat Fulham on Saturday.

05 Feb 2019 10:32:48
Yes. The quality of our backup midfielders are a step below.
Fred is still adapting to the League. He looses possession far too often.
Mctominay looks average and is limited on the ball.
Andreas has decent passing range but doesn't offer the tenacity of Herrera or the physicality of Matic.
I suggested yesterday why not try Jones for the Matic role.

05 Feb 2019 12:04:17
I’d expect as much rotation as possible at Fulham and would expect McTominay, Fred, Mata and Lukaku all to start. Valencia and Dalot getting games too, as well as Romero.

That should still be good enough to get the 3 points.

05 Feb 2019 12:52:29
Fred for pogba
Dalot for young
Martial for lingard

Are the only changes I would make from the Leicester game

If and when we have a comfortable lead then sub off matic for mctominay, rashord for lukaku and herrera for pereira.

Should then have a fairly fresh pogba, rashford, matic, herrera, lingard and even though I thi k we all don't want young to play we know he will so at least a fresher young will be better than a tired young.

05 Feb 2019 13:03:19
Greenwood is an out and out striker and not ready for the first team, did you mean someone else?

05 Feb 2019 14:58:37
Probably Garner GDS.

I'm liking the shout of Jones in midfield actually. The further away he is from our penalty box the better. Maybe try him wide right?

05 Feb 2019 16:26:46
Yep my bad I meant the kid in bench for the reading fa Cup game. Jimmy garner.

Sharath u sure Jones could link up with other midfielders . matic/ Herrera both always seem to make themselves available for the centre backs to receive the ball when the opposition press. is Jones intelligent enough to play matic role and also support in attack?

Fresh, that would be too risky, with a midfield of Pogba mctom and Fred and Valencia on the right we would not have the current balance.

Schnauzer sounds like a plan👍.

I'm a little confused why you think our players can't play Saturday morning and then Tuesday night? They will have had 6 days rest and will get another 6 days after the PSG game, 3 games in the next 14 days is hardly going to kill the poor things.

05 Feb 2019 18:28:01
Definitely not to Jones at DM. His passing is so bad and would be totally exposed there.

I think we will see more from Fred as he gets more game time. He wins the ball a lot, even though he loses it as well. As he plays, and gets used to the speed of the game, the latter will improve and the former shouldn't go anywhere.

Midfield is light, but Jones is not the answer if we want to play how we want to play.

06 Feb 2019 05:09:28
The CDM role is the area for which have struggled in the last 2 years. Matic will get burnt out towards the end if we do not rest him adequately.
I agree that Jones do not possess the game controlling ability, but he could do a job.
Remember Fergie using him to do a job on Bale in champions league few years back?

06 Feb 2019 10:22:42
I’m fairly sure another reason why Fellaini has been moved on is down to the fact some of the younger midfielders like garner will be getting a chance at some stage. I think we should play Gomes on Saturday.

06 Feb 2019 10:24:52
Gds2 - no one is saying they can't play Saturday and then Tuesday that's why no one is suggesting to rest 11 players, people are suggesting to rest a few key players who we will need to be at 100% to beat psg. Have you seen our fixture list for then next 9 games? Think the only other games we can weaken our team are Palace and Southampton.

06 Feb 2019 10:39:56
They'll have had 6 days rest since the Leicester game. We would be out of our mind to play a rotated team against a team fighting relegation. Look what happened when we tried it against Burnley. What's the priority. Top 4 or winning the Champions League? Let's get real. The top 4 is priority. Also, they're not swept off their feet with games at the moment so the same full team could play both games as they will have another 6 days rest after the PSG game. If the last week in the Premier League is anything to go by there is no gimme games in the Premier League at this moment in time.

06 Feb 2019 12:33:15
Schnauzer,

People are saying to rest pretty much the full midfield and other players as well which is madness in my opinion.

Maybe go 3-0 up and ease off / remove a few key players, but to lose the momentum or risk a defeat at this stage would be madness, it's not like we are playing 3 games a week, we have almost a full weeks break before the Fulham game and 6 days after the PSG game.

06 Feb 2019 12:54:40
Ummmm GDS, you do realise that in FIFA seasons, players stamina bar won’t be full if you play them in more than one game in a week, so that’s, eh, like science bro.

06 Feb 2019 13:08:04
Yes players can play Saturday and then Tuesday but if they are 5% off their best and the opposition are not it can make a difference.

Thats what managers/ coaches get paid for, making the marginal decisions.

06 Feb 2019 13:54:18
Gds - totally agree wholesale changes can't happen our squad depth isn't good enough but resting 3 should be fine.

Killers scones - obviously the same 11 can play both games and be fine but it's in April and May you suffer. One of reasons united sometimes under SAF wasn't great in the 1st half of seasons is the rotation but part of the reason united was generally better in thd 2nd half of the season was our big rotated squad was fresher than most. Fatigue of the mind aswell as the body shouldn't be underplayed even if its only a few % off. A few %can be difference between a row z clearance and a phil jones shank into our own top corner.

07 Feb 2019 07:14:53
I think the sensible thing is to rest no more than 1 player from defence, 1 from midfield and 1 from attack each time we need to vary from the preferred 11 in this busy period of games.
That way we maintain majority of the team doing what it does game in game out. That should also make it easier for others to slot in and do their job.

07 Feb 2019 07:43:01
Schnauzer

I see your point however our best midfield and attack are by far best suited to our new style of play. Sanchez, Lukaku and Mata slow down and complicate our fast paced attack too much. We saw what happened when we swapped Herrera for Pereira in the Burnley game. Maybe bring in Dalot at wing back. Get a lead in the game then make early substitutions is the dream. Part of that dream also is that Jones doesn't get back in the team again because Bailey fulfills his potential like Lindelof. One can dream!

07 Feb 2019 10:16:38
I know Fred has been a bit dissapointing, but it seems he is just taking longer to adapt than we might have hoped. He is still good enough to be rotated in for one of our first choice midfielders against teams like Fulham.

IMO we should be rotating him in for one of them in every game where we don't 100% need our strongest side (ie Champions league and vs other top 6 PL teams) . That way, Herrera, Pogba and Matic all get some rest, and when we do need to put out the full strength team, none of them are tired. It's not about being tired against PSG, it's about the cumulative effect of fatigue, playing every game takes a toll after a while, even when the games aren't too close together. It will also give Fred the game time to help him adjust, and hopefully bring him up to the point where we don't feel the team is weakened when he plays.

07 Feb 2019 17:31:32
Personally I think top 4 is the priority and we’ve got a fantastic chance to get there this weeekend with Chelsea playing City. I’d be reluctant to change the team very much as we look disjointed without certain players IMO. I’d rather start strong and hopefully have the luxury of a few goals and then start resting the likes of Pogba, Rashford etc. The game against Fulham in my eyes is as big as the one on Tuesday as we can break into that top 4, something that was unimaginable only 2 months ago.
