Reports we are in for Ghoulam could be risky I’m sure that’s the one who’s had persistent knee problems.

Apparently Jose is concerned that the medical staff are getting bored hence he wants Bale as well.

Does he really have persistent knee problems or is it just this injury that he has now/ is getting over now? I'm looking back on the past 5 seasons and can only see the most recent injury which is long term and a thigh knock 5 years ago which kept him out of a game. I've looked through season by season and game by game and that's all I can find. If he recovers ok from this injury then he could be a good signing from what I've seen.

Ed002 didn't mention him when he updated us about options of LBs the club are considering, may be if something have changed. Good player but injury records scares.

{Ed002's Note - It has been a year out - high risk.}

It's potentially a risky move. However, if it we can sign him and he has fully recovered we will be signing one of the best LB's around at his peak.

I remember signing RvN after a similar injury and he turned out pretty well for us, on the other hand Falcao struggled badly.

The thing is we probably need a new LB with Shaw looking increasingly likely to be on his way out.

When we look at other LB's out there all have potential issues.

Tierney, Sessegnon and Aaron Martin are all young and have never played in a league either as competitive or physical as the EPL so they may take time to settle or they might never step up. In Sessegnon's case I don't feel the LB spot will be his position in the long term.

Grimaldo has always struggled with fitness, that is one of the reasons why Barcelona felt they could let him go.

Options such as Alaba, Alba, Alex Sandro, Bernat, Mendy, Kurzawa ect are at top clubs and will be hard/ impossible to actually sign.

players like Willems, or Philipp Max or Jorge are potentially one season wonders and therefore, a gamble.

That really leaves us with Ghoulam, Rose and Gaya. Personally I would go for Gaya. I think he has been excellent for Valencia this season. However, you could question whether he can adapt to a new country. Rose has had injury problems for a few seasons, although he knows the league well and wants the move.
Ghoulam has only had the one bad injury and seems to be coming back well from that, has proven he can adapt to a new league and is in his prime. So I can see why he might be close to a top pick for Jose.

{Ed001's Note - have you really just said Tierney hasn't played in a league as physical as the EPL? Have you never watched the SPFL? The quality may be crap, in the main, but it is more physical than the EPL. Even worse to suggest Sessegnon has not played in a league as competitive or physical! The Championship is the single most competitive league in Europe. It is also a lot more physical than the Prem. Sorry Shaps but that was a nonsense paragraph.}

Ed001, I said either competitive OR physical.
In Tierney's case I believe the SPL to be physical but certainly not competitive. When playing for Celtic in the SPL a player is a defender in name only, they will rarely ever have to defend. So I feel he will need to move to a more competitive league to fully reach his potential. In that sense until he has he could be considered a bit of a risk. Although personally I think he would do very well.

Aaron Martin has had one very good season in a league which is neither competitive nor physical.

Seesengon I will admit I ballsed that one up, I originally wrote about him in a separate paragraph then decided as he also fitted the young and not tested profile shared by both Teirney and Martin I thought I'd just squeeze him into that paragraph. I do agree with you that the championship is probably as physical and competitive as any league in the world.

With Sessegnon though I feel long term he will make a similar move forward to the wing like Bale rather than continue to play LB.

{Ed001's Note - Sessegnon already has and has said so publicly. Not long term, now. He is a wide midfielder first and foremost now.}

If you're not careful, you could end up buying Steven from Fulham.
