Is there anymore updates on Rooney?

Agree2 Disagree1

24 Jun 2017 12:25:48
No its the same old version.

24 Jun 2017 14:46:49
Won't lower his wage demands apparently, think he will regret that when he is sat on the bench for most of the season.

24 Jun 2017 15:33:20
All Rooney wants to do is play regular first team football and get paid £300,000 a week. Is that too much to ask for a man with the body of a 60 year old?

24 Jun 2017 16:48:02
He's been discontinued, no support or updates are available.

24 Jun 2017 20:30:08
According to the papers he's in Ibiza.

{Ed004's Note - Apparently he's back training 3 weeks earlier than everyone else tbf to him}

24 Jun 2017 20:47:23
He isn't Ed004, he's off relaxing on a private yacht. I presume that the back to training early story is his agent and buddies in the media trying to make it look like he doesn't spend the summer drinking, smoking and pissing about.

{Ed004's Note - Fair enough thought I saw pictures online of him at carrington}

Good luck to the guy. I'm sure all of those on here and elsewhere that were happy to throw money at him the last time he was wrongly given a new contract, are now ecstatic to be paying a fortune to someone who is pretty much useless to us, as he now offers nothing. If he is holding out for top money to move, can you really blame him? He knows he is finished at the top, has pretty much a zero chance of a WC spot with England and is being paid a fortune at United. Why move elsewhere now? He can wait a bit and move on a free for probably decent money in the USA in a few years if needs be.

Yet I and others were slated for even suggesting that the huge contract was a bad thing. Funny old world.

If you don't support Utd then almost everybody will say fair play to Rooney, ultimately it's money either in a massive Corporate entities back pocket (shareholders) or the working class scallywag come good's back pocket - everyone loves an underdog. Almost everyone would do the same in Rooney's shoes - he is right to look after number one on a personal level, but it does tell you a lot about the man biting the hand that fed him. Poor moral compass in my book. Kind of guy that won't resign due to epic incompetence but wants to be sacked for the pay off.

To be fair, if he was still pulling up trees (like he was 10 years ago) then the club would want to hold him to his contract if a rival came bidding - swings and roundabouts I suppose.

However as we are all Man Utd supporters on here, it should be regarded as a disgrace that he is being paid the wages of one of the World's best at what they do and offering very little. At the same time his PR people will try to encourage the "fight for his place, he only wants to play football" mantra, which is total BS. He will take up a valuable space in the team, the wages could be used in a much better way and it can't be helpful having somebody of Rooney's obvious influence showing the younger players how to milk a contract for all it's worth. He may not directly be corrupting young minds as that wouldn't be tolerated, but indirectly it will be having an effect for sure. It's not even safe to have somebody like that training with the U23's. Just give him a couple of cones and tell him to head down to Stanley Park running the bleep test all season.

If you support Wayne Rooney or hate the club then it's funny what is happening. I remember laughing a Chelsea with Winston Bogarde all those years ago. A contract is a contract, clubs fault yet again for being so desperate - but we all have to suffer when those wages could be spent on a Bale/ Neymar etc instead. Of course nobody at the club will be held accountable as it was all pinned on Moyes.

This reminds me of when I watch TV and see the old coppers being rubbish at their job, lost all pride in their work, counting down the days to their retirement. Whilst the rest of the workforce are covering for them or being held up because the has-been would rather not arrest the culprit as he wants more overtime and can do without the hassle of a confrontation X days until the pension kicks in.

Frustrating.

25 Jun 2017 11:44:38
But Brendan you just can't see his potential midfield greatness. He is our future in midfield he will be Better than scholes.

25 Jun 2017 12:32:01
He's perfectly entitled to see out his contract, the club were stupid enough to sanction it, so there's no moral dilemma when an employee does this.

There is an issue of self respect when a player decides to stay at a club that doesn't want him and won't play him because he doesn't want to take a pay cut. It does make a joke of the Rooney is only interested in playing narrative, and would be a sad conclusion to his career.

25 Jun 2017 12:54:27
To be fair lads nobody knows what's happening. The windiw is not open. He won't be short of decent offers. He will move imo. I think the club will help facilitate his move and i'm sure if he goes abroad to the mls he could do well and enjoy the experience. I think he could even play in italy where its slower.
I think he will do what's best for his family and that's exsctly what he should do. Personally i'd say him playing and being happy is also very important to his family.

25 Jun 2017 13:45:35
If I were a betting man, I'd say he'll be at the MLS come the end of the year. Miami or LA, would be great for the kids, wouldn't be surprised if the Mrs would push for something like that - and he could still at least get on the bench for most MLS teams, potentially.

25 Jun 2017 13:55:06
He got a good offer from China, a free bottle of fanta when you order a side and starter with your main.
Having said that I went for a Chinese last night . and I nearly killed him.

25 Jun 2017 14:05:31
long time reader first time poster. let's be honest in the real world if any of us were deemed incompetent in our job role however you had a contract in place to say your company had to carry on paying the same wage and another younger employee will carry out your work while you 'sit on the bench'. would any of us hand on heart actively look for another job. knowing you are no longer going to get the salary you once had as you are now past your best. or would we sit on that contract until it runs out earning a decent wage for our family while doing less work?

25 Jun 2017 16:23:32
I can't see him moving abroad. He's very close to his and Coleen's family, they have another couple who live with them who help out with the children and they are set where they are so I would be surprised to see him in the MLS and especially China, unless both families move which is doubtful.

Nobody here really knows what's going on and all comments are based on newspaper talk. He might end up back at Everton and I hope he has a couple of decent years there to end his career if he does. He was carrying the club at one stage, the situation we are in now is unfortunate for all parties so hopefully it's resolved come 1st September but I wouldn't be surprised to see him at the club for 1 more year.

Ged,
People on this site don't understand that footballers do it as a job. That's why they give players so much stick for chasing the money. It is a job that you only have a short shelf life so make as much money as you can before you finish.

(Oh also Rooney has done everything there is to do at club level so you can't say that he has no ambition, but people are bound to find another way to throw him some abuse, I would also be quite interested to see the body types of people who constantly give him abuse for his weight! )
I love United (and I haven't got a family yet) but when I do they will always come first!

26 Jun 2017 09:21:32
Walrus - the key is we are not Rooney's family. We are more closely tied to the club than the player (in most cases) . Technically Rooney isn't in the wrong, but he will want his cake and eat it here. Almost everyone knows he is not good enough to play regularly or irregularly for Utd anymore, so if he or his PR people say anything like "he will fight for his place, he wants first team football, playing football is all that matters to Wayne" it's just waffle.

I'd have a lot more respect if he or a Rep came out and said, "I have a contract at Man Utd, unless a better opportunity comes along for me to both provide for my family and to enjoy my occupation then I will be happy to just see out my contract and make myself available for selection like any other player under contract with the club". Instead we will get monkey business and BS headlines guaranteed - if there is total silence from the Rooney camp then great and good luck to him, more fool the club for paying way over the odds. BUT we won't get that, a few months of not being picked and it will be rumour, leaks, behind the scenes disagreements etc

In terms of the body types point you make, that is only fair if you are comparing like-like. For example if I were an accountant and couldn't count, or a teacher and knew bugger all about the subject I taught - you wouldnt' last too long. He is a footballer, paid a lot to be 100% fit and to maintain a suitable body weight/ shape. Accountants are paid different amounts dependent on their abilities, so are footballers - normally!

99% of us will critcise individual performances, despite most of us not being able to play to 1/ 10th of the level of the players we criticise - it's all relative and part of supporting a team. We criticise technology products and have no idea how to make something 10X less complex ourselves, but you expect better as a consumer.

26 Jun 2017 12:15:11
I'm with you on this Walrus I've never understood why people hate on another human being because he doesn't play football as well as he used to. You'd think Rooney is the cause of global warming going by some of the comments here. SMH.
