Reports that shaw has undergone foot surgery and will mis the start of nest season. That means a sale will be less likely than actually seeing him play.

Christmas it is then Ken.

There's no need to sell him. A good, youngEnglish player and a great back up for whoever we buy in the summer. The competition might do him some good.

07 May 2017 10:18:23
That is the best possible outcome eric79

But how does that sit with shaw? Could go either way.

Could leave us with 2 top top lb's fighting for a place which would be great.

I'd hope Shaw must be aware that if he to have a career in any top club his place will be under threat week in week out.

The ideal situation is we buy a left back in the twilight of his career on a short-term contract, between 30-32 who can still perform at the top level for a couple of seasons and also help Shaw with his progression. It's clear he needs a good mentor who plays in his position.

The question is, who's available?

{Ed004's Note - Someone like Bertrand?}

07 May 2017 12:25:12
Perhaps Ed, but do you not think Bertrand has a good 5 years left in him, and do you think he has the experience necessary to guide Shaw?

I was thinking someone in the mould of (but absolutely not him because he seems an ****) Marcelo.

{Ed004's Note - I can't see Marcelo being likely. I was just thinking of someone who seems to have a good injury record and plays at a high enough level that Shaw would have to compete with him. Alternatively we could just go out and sign a world class left back like Mendy from Monaco and see if Shaw has what it takes to out play him}

Yeah, the problem we'd have is spending £30m on another LB. I know we shouldn't worry about the money as it's not ours but it doesn't seem logical to have £60m worth of left backs at the club. Surely there's only room for 1. Marcelo was just an example of someone who has been there and done it who may be up for a new challenge in the twilight of his career, although I've just found out he's only 28. He seems to have been around for decades and I thought he was a few years older than that.

{Ed004's Note - Agreed it doesn't make sense and highlights how poorly we have spent our money in recent years that we still need another probably atleast 150m to make us competitive}

07 May 2017 13:36:10
Ed, do you think Shaw was actually a bad buy or has he just been bang unlucky?

I know Shaw himself has said it's been a lot harder than he expected and it's like a different world to what he was used to. So he knows he needs to adapt. Do you think the injuries have stopped him from doing so?

{Ed004's Note - I think it's a bit of both. We really should've done our homework on his character better before spending so much on him although no one could have predicted how unfortunate he would be}

07 May 2017 14:29:02
Not going to sell shaw, some will be devastated.

{Ed004's Note - I don't think we will either. But I was hoping he would get himself in to tip top shape this summer like two seasons ago and start the season raring to go. Obviously won't be the case now fs}

Marcelo won't come, doesn't have a good relationship with Mourinho.

08 May 2017 11:33:32
Should have got Evra when he was available

Plus he loves the club. ( and this game )

08 May 2017 12:26:00
Jedi is right, Evra would have been the ideal person to coach/ tutor Shaw.

08 May 2017 18:42:51
Shame to see how he just hasn't adapted to life as a top footballer.

Maybe he'd be better off to go to another club, maybe even a loan to try and prove himself.
