According to Ed,

We have approached Marquinhos agent about a possible move for him.

I would love united to pull this off as i think he will be a brilliant cb in years to come.

You guys think he would be a good signing? .

{Ed004's Note - Where did he say this?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ohh,

Its on one of the european pages i think.

He dis say it is a english club thqt is currently talking to his agent.

I assume it is us because the other clubs have different defenders as their number 1 target.

Ed,

It wqs on the chelsea page. Here it is anyway i have copied and pasted.

After wrapping up Umtiti, does that end Barcelona's interest in Marquinos? I remember a month or so ago you said Chelsea, Barcelona and City amongst others were interested in him due to his lack of playing time, and was wondering where Barcelona potentially no longer interested where this leaves Chelsea's efforts to sign the player?

{Ed002's Note - PSG had no intention of selling Marquinhos last summer and have agreed a new contract with him - regardless of interest from Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Chelsea. However, the player is continuing to have a difficult time with no regular pattern to his game time and this has led Chelsea to put a marker in place with PSG over another discussion about the player and this has led to some further recent discussions with Chelsea and his representatives. Barcelona had a different player in mind as first choice so did not need to look again to Marquinhos. It is unlikely we will see further interest from Bayern Munich as they have secured their primary target. Manchester City have spoken with his representatives, but again he is not first pick right now. However, there has been an approach from another English side. }.

{Ed004's Note - Could be Arsenal as they are looking at a CB. Although, Mourinho has been an admirer of him for a while now I think. I do agree that we will need a CB as Smalling will be first choice, Jones and Bailly will be competing for the other spot, Blind will not be played there and Rojo should be sold. Leaving us with only 3 CB's. However, would anyone else not worry about his physicality in the premiership. He's not exactly tall and dominant for a CB}

Hmmm the only issue i see here is . We have bought Bailly, i think if we hadnt bought Baily, Marquinhos wouldve been perfect.

We need a experienced cb now, i don't know much about his physicalities but he still has age on his side to become stronger incase he isn't yet.

You know what, people are quick to want Rojo gone but forgive me for thinking this but the way i see it is, he's played better at CB and done a good job now n then at LB compared to Jones who hasn't featured much at all, so be it down to injury but i'd rather have Jones gone then Rojo. rojo may well improve under Mourinho, but like the majority i do think he will be sold.

Marquinho and Varane, i feel were focusing on the wrong player, i feel we will go for someone who is less known and less coveted compared to these names, probably another CB who we've never noticed .

{Ed004's Note - Like Lindelof}

10 Jul 2016 14:52:59
With Lindelof, i'd take him over Marquinhos. Beast of a player!

{Ed004's Note - Never seen him play. What style of CB is he?}

10 Jul 2016 15:21:04
I watched him during the Euros, but he is different to the player i was watching. During the Euros he had to step up a lot more and he did, so much was put on his shoulders and he did himself justice. He is very tactically aware, does the simple things the best and powerful in the air. If he was to come here at United, it would be Smallings position under threat! Marquinhos is more in your face. It depends, i'm not too sure what kindve CB were looking for. If you really want a CB with a killer pass, i'd personally want Alderwerald (Spelling) . So what he's been at Spurs for a year? Deleted...

{Ed004's Note - There's no need to be arrogant haha. I think regardless of how many CB's come in, one of Smalling (most likely) or Jones will start as the main CB. Personally Bailly looks like he will complement Smalling as he will come out of defence and Smalling can sweep in behind. Would the sweeper role suit Lindelof (is he quick enough and good enough on the ball). IMO this role would suit Marquinho's}

Looks like axel tuanzene's going to get a chance this year aswell.

10 Jul 2016 15:56:27
Lindelof nowhere near Marquinos class IMO.

10 Jul 2016 16:07:50
Rojo has never impressed me, apart from the odd game here and there I think he's been very average . Baily is an unknown quantity, who knows how well or quickly he will adapt- although Kurt Zouma at Chelsea looked very accomplished coming into a new league.

Smalling has to up his game, and god help him if refs clamp down on holding in the area next season . The problem Smalling/ our defence has is we need a leader, Smalling isn't a leader, much as I like the idea of a Marquinhos/ Varane would we be better served with an old head like Garay alongside Smalling ddg and Shaw each week, and possibly TFM at right back til we see what Baily can do?

10 Jul 2016 17:41:04
I think Lindelof would be a like for like swap for Smalling, give him the competition needed at CB. Marquinho and Bailey look very similar to me, and as Jose made it out, Bailey was bought as a 'specialist' (Sweeper) . So who would sit on the bench for who? Marquinhos for Bailey or Bailey for Marquinhos?
We're not citeh, i don't think we would spend 30m+ on a Defender to sit him on the Bench. Saying that, i would never say no to Marquinho or Varane. Or even Laporte lool.

I haven't seen Lindelof play at all but we have been served well by the European CB's United have chosen in the past, Johnssen, Berg, Stam, Vidic come to mind.
