Don't understand why we would want him we need an experience world class CB not a young player with potential we already have one of them in paddy mcnair his performance against Chelsea last season was outstanding.

{Ed025's Note - dont compare paddy with stones nach..you will be telling us that theres not much between ronaldo and ashley young next!.. :)

I'm not ed the point is we need an experienced centre back like a hummels or otamendi not paying stupid money for a youngster.

Nach 73, United should always be interested in the best young English talent. Stones could go on to become our new Rio and play for next 10 years.

Id love to know how many times all the buy Otamendi brigade have actually seen him play?

Paddy needs to go out on loan and learn his trade, Ed25 make a valid point.

{Ed001's Note - why not just give him more games with United to learn his trade?}

Aymeric Laporte? This kids potential is unreal? Bring John Stones also and alternate between Smalling and Stones? We have a lot of games next season and I for one intend to win most of the buggers! Some say I'm a dreamer BUT you have got to be when your team is Manchester United! BELIEVE!

{Ed001's Note - why would you alternate Stones with Smalling? The gulf in quality is massive, you would only do that if Stones was unfit or injured. Smalling is just not good enough, his improvement still only made him a poor Premier League player, at best. Stones, on the other hand, is potentially a top class centre half, who needs to play as often as possible to gain experience.}

Paddy > Stones!

Personally, I don't think any of our "established" centre backs represent a long term solution for the club. I also think centre backs need game time against genuine quality if they are to develop and improve - they'll learn more in an hour against Aguero than twenty games against Ings.

So, if we did move for Stones, it has to be on the basis he would play regularly and we'd be willing to accept he is young and will cost us some games early on. I'd question what we could offer him in terms of on-pitch development right now - we don't have anyone close to the calibre of Ferdinand or Vidic to mentor a young player through.

So I think any move for Stones would have to be as 1 of 2 inbound centre backs, which is a risk in itself.

From LVG's comments this morning it looks like Blind will be our new centre back with either Smalling or Jones partnering him.

30 Jul 2015 11:30:44
Sod it then, sell Smalling to Arsenal, they've always liked him, give Evans to Everton as part of the deal to bring in Stones and buy Laporte? Job done! Centre back pairing for years, Jones and Rojo back up?

30 Jul 2015 12:05:59
Do we have CBs at Utd ? After watching last nights game and numerous others before we need 2 desperately .

30 Jul 2015 14:17:22
I'm sorry, i've played with and against Paddy, he should never be a Manchester United player.

30 Jul 2015 14:34:02
Nice one Mpez, where did you get to play with and against him?

30 Jul 2015 15:01:23
Ok, buy Laporte and Stones, then loan them back to their former clubs to improve? Least we know their ours? Give em another season then bring em back?

30 Jul 2015 18:07:22
At the Comrades, Mpez?
