Ed001, quick question if you're not too busy? There has been a lot of talk for weeks now of Otamendi and Ramos but pretty much nothing on any other CB. Obviously we are interested in both of them but do we hold an interest in any other CB's?
It seems likely that we will but they would be 3rd or 4th choice. There aren't many top class CB's around so I feel this is the most crucial signing of our summer as we have little chance of ending up higher than 4th with Smalling, Jones, Rojo and Blind as CB's.

No problem. I vaguely recall reading a list actually but I had a scroll through the posts and couldn't find one.

Ed001 - I don't think anyone has actually asked me about centre backs other than Hummels and Ramos who you all know about. There is Otamendi, Varane (unlikely in the extreme), Vertonghen (again unlikely now as Rojo is there but it was an option considered), Mustafi of Valencia was also considered Moyes wanted him when he came in and the club have kept tabs, Toprak is under consideration, de Vrij enquiry was rejected, Matip is an outside possibility (I know little about him other than he was earmarked if Javi Martinez leaves Bayern as the replacement), Dragovic is one I would not rule out as a possibility as he has been tracked though I have no idea if he is seen as good enough, so the scouts might have watched him a lot and then ruled him out, Stones of course I nearly forgot, Bartra is an outside possibility, Sokratis and Hinteregger.
Those are the ones that I know were very closely tracked over the course of the season just gone.}

Would love Godin personally, the guy is a warrior and chips in with a load of headed gaols too.

Martin Hinteregger, plays for red bull Salzburg? This guy is only 22/23 and already showing signs of being a top defender? We could get him for peanuts oppose to £30-40m, could be a very shrewd signing indeed? We already have some good defenders and with these wins against Barca etc all be it there second string side in many ways I think confidence around the squad should and would be sky high! The tours been great and I hope we beat PSG next, and show Manchester Utd are back in full swing! We talked before about someone being good enough and brave enough to make those choices, I think Smalling will be an integral part of what's going to be achieved this season? We forget HE PLAYED under Sir Alex with Rio and Vidic in the side, now it's his turn to make that step up! I for one believe he will, after some shaky moments at the start, he's learned a hell of a lot! Go Smalling, it's your birthday!
