Can ed004 explain the di maria situation! Why on earth are we prepared to take a 14 million loss on one of the best players in the world? It doesn't make any sense

{Ed004's Note - I do not know}

Agree0 Disagree2

24 Jul 2015 18:14:38
Ed004 do you blame lvg for the di maria situation?

{Ed004's Note - No it's the players responsibility to impress his manager}

24 Jul 2015 18:15:20
I really don't get the best player in the world thing. We had our pants pulled down in paying £60M for him. Perhaps he want to go and we a we cutting our losses

24 Jul 2015 18:26:39
Man of match in a champions league final puts you in the bracket of 'one of the best players in the world '

24 Jul 2015 18:51:24
He was bought for near enough £60m, which is basically £12m per season, over his 5 year contract, plus wages, therefore if he wants to leave, or we want him out, and we get somewhere around £48m, I think the club will be happy, we aren't going to make a profit on him after the season he had.

24 Jul 2015 18:54:17
Performing consistently puts you in the bracket of one of the best in the world

Any player can have a game where they have outshone all others doesn't mean their one of the best in the world.

Saying that I still want di Maria to stay and prove that he can cut it in our league.

24 Jul 2015 18:57:29
In 2003 we had an injury crisis in midfield with games against Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea approaching. SAF had to make changes and boy did they work. MOTM in all 3 games was Phil Neville. Now I like Phil but he wasn't one of the best in the world. The best perform consistently influencing games and seasons. Sporadic and occasional flashes just makes you inconsistent

24 Jul 2015 19:37:05
The story is his wife has gone back to their old place in Spain because she absolutely hates living in england. He doesn't want to stay at the club because he doesn't exactly feel settled either. Psg are aware of this fact, they know he doesn't want to be playing for you any more, and that strengthens Psg's position while weakening yours. The club don't want to get stuck with a player who doesn't want to be there, so are willing to make a loss to get rid of him and bring Pedro in to replace him.

24 Jul 2015 19:53:01
Pepgiggs getting motm in the cl final does not make you the best player in the world! Hahaha what a crazy statement your obsession with adm is scaring me, its like that film Misery

24 Jul 2015 20:18:01
Kleberson I think got more in a wc final. Look what happened.

24 Jul 2015 20:24:55
We paid over the odds for a player that doesn't want to succeed at United, you can tell after a season if the player wants to be there and does he deserve another season,no,I'd take 50 mill for him and let him go and get in another player

24 Jul 2015 21:10:38
If he wants to leave then fine, but he's only ever been quoted as saying he wants to stay! And forgetting last season he is 'one' of the best players in the world! He got motm in a champions league final between two of the best teams in Europe, that's not any old man of the match and his Madrid statistics that year were unbelievable! At the end of the day we had a fantastic player arrive who had his season ruined by a manager! If he goes (or when he goes) he will show how good he is and all you haters of him will wish he'd stayed like I do now

24 Jul 2015 21:59:56
What statistics are you referring to pep?

24 Jul 2015 22:00:45
If ADM is one of the best in the world then I have to question exactly how you're defining 'best'. There are 50+ players better than him - and so unless we're talking a very broad definition of the word - then 'best', he is not.

Even if he were one of the best in terms of ability (which he's not) - his professionalism is some way behind. At no point did he ever look happy in a red shirt and his posturing for a move to the club that he would rather have signed for last summer is a great example of that.

I wish him all the best - but he was never a Manchester United player and will feel much more at home in the French League. The prospect of us getting £40-£50m is the only thing that will prevent him going down as one of the clubs worst signings.

24 Jul 2015 22:11:34
Peg

give it a rest he is a long way away from one of the best in the world, you are deluded to believe that. He did nothing all year to even warrant a starting position after 5 games in. Losses the ball, poor passing, crossing, taking shots from stupid places and rolling around on the ground with the slightest of touches.

He will be worse this year and i hope we sell him. When ashley young gets picked week in week out ahead of you on merit, you know we have been sold a plum.

24 Jul 2015 22:31:14
My word I honestly can't believe the stick u boys give adm! I just wish he had the chance to prove you all wrong but he's going so we'l never know what would have happened next year! I know there are one or two people who agree with me but the majority of you don't so fair play, uve never seen an inform di maria tearing teams apart for us and that's a real shame.

24 Jul 2015 23:27:17
Doesn't score enough goals for an attacking player, gives away the ball far to often, relatively poor passing stats, terrible defensively, drifts in and out of games. Basically a luxury player who's been carried at club level and national level by two of the best players ever to grace the game.

24 Jul 2015 23:28:47
He had the chance to prove us wrong last season and squandered it. If only we'd gone for Sanchez instead.

25 Jul 2015 01:15:41
Would have liked to have seen how he got on this coming season to be honest, after his settling-in season.

25 Jul 2015 09:06:59
1968 European Cup Final. Man of the Match, John Aston.but I never heard him called One of the best players in the world.

25 Jul 2015 11:22:05
Many valid points on here regarding Di Maria, however I do have to just point out a fact that despite everyone saying he had a bad season he finished to off our assist's with 10. That's nearly double the 2nd highest Rooney. Now considering most people on here are quick to jump to Rooney's defence and tell us he played midfield all season, surely we might ask why he's not got more assists!

Point is if Di Maria wants to stay, and that's a big if, he deserves another season to deliver what fans expect for the money. How many seasons did Nani, Valencia, Young, Jones, Smalling (the list goes on) get?? It's not his fault we paid over the odds for him blame Woodward.

25 Jul 2015 11:22:41
and whos talking about the european cup final in 1968, that's over 40 years by now. i don't think you can compare this

25 Jul 2015 12:12:17
I'm totally into selling him and getting as much as we can for him. He's a good player but nothing more. What surprised me is how slow he is, he has no burst of speed at all.
And his goal tally even when he was at Madrid was poor. So all in all, we paid £60m which is around £25m more than he's worth. If sanchez can be bought for £35m then adm can't be worth more. If psg want him then bite their hands off with a size 11 kick from lvg's boots up his bum.

25 Jul 2015 14:00:55
Pep if you base your rating of a player on the fact they got man of the match, I can only imagine how highly you rated Alexander Buttner when he was here. Man of the match pretty much every game he played for us wasn't he?

In all seriousness though, I was as excited as anyone when Di Maria signed and his poor season hasn't made me think he's any worse a player than I did 12 months ago. However, it seems fairly clear that he isn't cut out for the Premier League. Many fantastic players have come in all around the league and aren't physically able to deal with it. If you look around the league, there aren't many players as skinny as Di Maria who have made a big impact. Players like Hazard, Sanchez and Depay, play in the same position but they are stocky as well as being quick. That coupled with their ability helped them settle and adapt to the league and Depay will likely do the same.

I don't feel the quality of our side helped Di Maria last year either. It was almost as if he realised he was expected to do something special whenever he had the ball because there wasn't a lot of quality around him. If he stays, I feel he'll have a better season that last year in terms of consistency as there won't be so much pressure on him with the additions we have made. However, as much as I do like him as a player, I can't help but think the best case scenario was if he were to leave and we were to bring in a player like Reus or Griezmann. Di Maria to PSG for around £50m and then one of Reus or Griezmann for probably around the same figure and I wouldn't be complaining.

How the 'younger' players played against Barca was exceptional! I so was well happy, all be it a slightly depleated Barca side, now I know there is a few calls for Muller to be bought, but I just can't see bayern without him either? Gotze on the other hand, different ball game! He's still a pup himself yet winning the amount of trophies he has and really think Gotze should be bought and integrated with our youths yet he'd have a more confident settled head on his shoulders to get the others up to speed? He's shit quick as well? Just an opinion guys?

Or Max Meyer from Shalke? Similar kind of players?

27 Jul 2015 09:36:21
Pep,

I'm a big fan of adm and want him to do well, but you can't blame the manager for the player not getting his head in the game.
