Hey eds/all,
Just wondering what is your take on lvg?seems a lot of people think he won't be there beyond this season and that giggs willbe taking control??i have reservations about that too to be honest.granted he might let united play with freedom again and use what he's learned from lvg and saf but is he the right choice?

{Ed001's Note - he was never intended to be long term, LVG has come in to be the bad guy who rips the team apart and sets it up again to go forward. Not sure where Giggs comes into it, I know he has his backers within the club, but we won't know if he is the right choice until he gets the chance on a long term basis. Personally I would think it mainly depends on the state of the club that he gets his hands on, as to whether he would be the right choice. If the only issues are those of LVG falling out with all and sundry, which is currently a huge part of the problem, then a change of manager could be a nice quick fix in the short term. Long term he would need the right help around him to maintain things. Kenny Dalglish had Bob Paisley advising him while he was successful at Liverpool, it was only after Paisley stepped away that it all fell apart and signings like David Speedie came along. Even Pep, who everyone seems to hold up as some sort of messiah, was struggling to keep things together at Barca in the long term, and he had experience of full management with Barca's B side before taking the role. Giggs has a few games at the end of the season as his sum management experience, which has to be a major worry.}

For me LVG is a good manager but when we play any team of any quality i fear we will be found out :( i hope i'm wrong but it's just Saturdays result seemed, for me, to just paper over the cracks for now but the way we played (and not just in the 1st half either) was pretty poor to say the least. I really hope I am wrong with this.

It's difficult, I think Giggs would allow this team to reach their attacking potential but would he be a strong enough character to make the ruthless decisions? I would hate to see him fail, but I would also be open to giving him a chance.

But if say Pep or Klopp were available then it's a no brainer to go for them first and let Giggs earn his stripes elsewhere.

I personally think we've done ok against the bigger teams since lvg, it's the never lost against until now teams that's been our problem

LvG is and has always been a short term answer. In fact he has never lasted more than three years at any club since he first left Ajax. So it was always obvious that he wasn't going to be here for the long haul.
If the club give him a longer contract I highly doubt he would see it through, I would suspect it would be done to show stability and keep things on an even keel. I don't find it shocking that just after the media reports that the players have met with LvG to discuss things that the club let's it be known they are considering offering him a contract extension.

If the players think he will be gone in two years or less then they may be less inclined to follow his instruction knowing they will out last him at the club. If his future looks secure then the players will have to play ball.

Whether or not this extension materialises remains to be seen but if it does I expect it will have little effect on how the club views LvG's tenure or the length of it.

As for Giggs he is painfully ill-equipped to deal with managing a club our size. He may know the club inside out but so did Wilf McGuinness and look how that turned out. Giggs needs at least one probably 2 or 3 management jobs to prepare him for managing our club. He has absolutely no experience of how to over come issues and man manage players and staff.
If you make a mistake managing at this level then your very next move has to be the right one or you'll be fired. Until you make a mistake you don't know how to get through it, all you can do is draw on your experience. Giggs has none to very little to draw on. He would be a massive disaster and would be totally unfair for him to have to take that on. It would be a hiding to nothing.

Our next manager needs to be able to take what LvG has done and build on it. Evolve the squad and make the team more progressive. He will need to have experience of managing at the highest level.

There are many options, Pep, Klopp, Ancelotti, Conte, Simeone, Deschamps, Blanc, Loew or Schmidt could all be good options for different reasons.

Long term managers to keep and eye on are De Boer, Tuchel, Cocu, Pochettino and Gary Monk all could be good options as the manager after our next one.

I'd add Mark Hughes to that list
