You have to wonder where we would be if ole had taken over in the summer? 25 points from 27 is a great return.
Jose said top 4 was impossible, ole has got us there after given the other teams a head start.

Agree4 Disagree1

Good question jred.

I think that it was the perfect time for ole. Had he come in the summer, he might not have been able to get the same reaction from the players.

I think it's a case of it being the perfect fit for this group right now. And I really believe that ole can build on this to great effect.

why angel, ole hasn't done anything special in the managerial perspective that some how stopped us losing. He did the basics correctly, if you have a team full of attacking talents asking them to play 11 behind the ball isn't going to work well, telling your players they are rubbish every time you open your mouth doesn't help morale or make the players want to work hard for you. It wasn't the liverpool or city results that hurt us it was the brighton, west ham and southampton results that hurt us.

CSM, what are you on about?

I'm answering the question poised by jred in the OP.

I think it is the perfect setting for Ole now rather than last summer.

I'm not talking about the differences between jose and ole. I'm talking about the timing of taking over.

10 Feb 2019 17:34:07
angel you are saying the results ole has achieved wouldn't have been possible had he been appointed in the summer rather than in December, i am saying ole would have been a similar success he is now had he been appointed in summer, the problems at utd this season weren't players related they were manager created for most part.

10 Feb 2019 17:55:20
I'm not saying that it wouldn't have been possible. I'm unable to look into some alternative universe where ole was appointed in the summer.

I just think that the timing was perfect for him now and the bounce he got was created by his ability to get the players enjoying himself now. It would have been a different scenario last summer and a different tact would have been needed.

Because of that I'm unsure as to whether or not Ole would have been as successful.

Its pointless looking back at what ifs.
The here and now is what matters.
Jose made some good signings but couldn't get them to play for him and wouldn't alter his style to suit the players.
He also couldn't get the best from some of the players he inherited.
Ole is getting the best out of both.

There will be some casualties so to speak because for example lukaku was bought to do one job but ole wants his cf to do a play a different way.
Ole came in at a time when the players were obviously frustrated at being shackled and he allowed them to be free. He has not put a foot wrong so far. Sure its been scrappy at times but he has a very tight core group to choose from particularly in midfield.

I think everybody is confident about our front 3 jessie rash and martial with sanchez as 1st choice cover for any of them and lukaku and mata offering a strong option from the bench too for the remainder of the season.
Full back is a 3 way fight between young dalot and shaw and if all 3 stay fit due to young and dalots versatility again we should get through to the end of the season with darmian there in case of emergency or valencia
Midfield we are very light with a largely unproven fred and mctom being the only serious back up to herrera pogba and matic and its here we may well be found wanting.

The cb area of the squad is the most interesting one.
Who is oles preferred pair.
I like many felt bailly would become a beast. He started brilliantly. He had injuries and some very poor displays. Was it all down to jose? Mayne. But even under ole he has been rash and nervy. So its not too late for him.
Lindelof is no1 all season
Jones always gives his all injury and error prone but a good pro with a good mentality.

Smalling was joses no1 a bit sloppy at times and not a very calming influence imo.
Rojo there for emergency.
I suppose we will see oles no1 pairing if all aur fit and available for psg.
Some really exciting fixtures ahead.
I think most of us are going into them with confidence in the players confidence in the coaches and but also in the knowledge that we have a manager who despite his jovial and extremely pleasant nature has a steely determination to win and succeed and to out HIS club back to the place where it belongs. He is a coach that is steeped in the clubs traditions and i can't think of a better custodian at this time.

Ole would have had us closer to the top three than Jose anyway. All we were getting at seasons start was "this squad isn't good enough". etc. " board isn't backing me". i bet ole would not have said any of that. In a game of inches surely positivity counts for so much. Ole should've been appointed aftet the Sevilla game last year.

Good post Ken
Good summary.

Nice post Ken.

If Rojo is the answer I dread to think what the question is.

Good post and as you at this moment I can't think of anyone better. We need now to make the appointment and get planning for summer. Not just in terms of incomings but also outgoings. We have at least half a dozen players we need to be moving in to clear down the wage bill and make room for some youngsters. Add in 3-4 signings.

Top post ken.

To be fair its a banter site 90% of posts are what ifs and there are some points made above and a bit if banter.
