Oh ye of little faith.

The new contract for Phil Jones is potentially good news:

1. It means he can't leave for nothing and whether he's good enough for United is one thing, but he's certainly good enough for many teams in the EPL.

2. We don't know the terms of the contract extension. There may be a clause in there regarding availability and injuries. Did he get an increase in his reported wage of £50k per week? If not, is that the sort of amount that would act as a deterrent to a transfer? It's hardly the £350k being paid to Sanchez.

3. You never know. He might just become the player Sir Alex obviously thought he was getting, especially with the right manager handling him.

If he's fit he must be worth at least £15-£20m in today's market.

Good piece of business by United with more upside than downside potential.

We would actually have to find someone willing to buy him though. That's the only problem.

The end of this season and next is really his last chance. He does have the potential to be a decent centre back. His injury record hasn't helped his development. For me he is decent cover for Lindelof and whoever is brought in the summer to partner him. Jones, Lindelof, Baily +1. He's not on massive wages, keeps his head down, works hard and doesn't complain about a squad/ bench role.

He lived near me as a kid, I so him from a young age and he stood out, unfortunately injury have stopped him becoming the player he could of been. He gets a lot of bad press, I lot not warranted in my opinion, he got slagged off diving on the floor and stopping a certain goal with his face, as a x defender I call that commitment and giving your all. A lot of good managers so a lot in him a young age. For me he's an excellent back up and who knows if he can keep injury free we may see a more complete player.
PS- At a young age he had the makings of a quality defensive midfielder and was better in that position.

How do people talk about his potential i will never understand, he is 26, if he had potential to be a decent footballer he should have shown some of it by now, only potential i see in him is he could be a good medic given the time he spent with doctors and physios.

Lindelof is a certainty for CB berth next season.
I don't think Rojo has a future with us anymore.
and Tuanzebe is someone that deserves a promotion in the lineup.
And assuming we sign a centre-half, we'll have 3 now.
Jones, Smalling and Baily for the remaining 2 positions is over staffing.
And I don't think we'll able get Rojo away easily as he's on good wages.
One of Smalling, Jones or Bailly should leave, else it'd be a signal that we are not looking to sign a centre half this summer which would be foolish.

Id definitely sell Rojo. Wolves were supposed to be interested last summer and look like their staying up so who knows. Or a mid table Italian or Spanish side. 10-15 million is a reasonable fee. Then one of the other three, Smalling would be ny choice. Again there was supposedly interest last summer. I'm sure someone like Everton, West Ham, Leicester or Spurs could be interested. Maybe float a swap deal for Alderweireld. Works out well for all parties.

Tuanzebe seems to be getting rave reviews. Played for us previously at right back and looked great. Perhaps that’s where he will challenge next season?

Rojo Andy darmian have no future at the club. Jones staying is a positive for me. English quota ticked, somidnsquad player, half decent player despite the bad rap. Also means he won’t leave for free.
