My thoughts for players leaving in the summer include
Lukaku
Sánchez
Valencia
Mata
Rojo
Jones

What’s everyone else’s views?

Agree3 Disagree1

How do you get rid of sanchez and lukaku provided they don't want to go to china?

Other than that i agree with the other four.

06 Feb 2019 21:56:48
Mmm 3 of our front 6.not sure about that jacko.
Id put darmian on that list.

06 Feb 2019 22:09:04
Agree Ken.

It’s Darmian, Rojo, Jones, Valencia and probably Mata.

There’s no real chance of Sánchez or Lukaku leaving due to wages and transfer fees etc.

With Fellaini already gone can only see 4 or 5 more leaving. With only 4 new signings. Plus promote players like Chong and Tuanzebe etc to the first team squad.

Darmian a good shout too
For me Mata and Sánchez lack the pace of the league
And Lukaku has the touch of a Bulgarian midwife
We have kids who deserve a chance and I’d supplement them with a new signing up front.

Too many first teamers there to go in one window. Two of those will go, 3 at a push.

06 Feb 2019 23:17:40
I'd keep mata If he'd be happy as a squad player. Knows what the club is about and a class individual as well as a player. For me players like jones and rojo need to be out much quicker than mata. If Alexis doesn't start pulling his weight he needs to go too.

06 Feb 2019 23:21:53
With potential injuries, suspensions its a risk to let so many go at once. i'd think it would take 2 - 3 windows to get rid of that lot. I don't disagree with the choice to go but i reckon a slower turnaround is more likely. Darmian, Rojo and Sanchez first with the others to follow. Hopefully suitable replacements will come in or be promoted.

Selling both Lukaku and Sanchez in a single window would be madness.
A long term injury to Rashford and we will be without a striker which could derail the entire season.

Moreover, there is no guarantee that Greenwood or Chong would come in and straight away start banging in goals and assists. They could get overwhelmed by the physicality and intensity of the premier league.

On the other hand, a replacement for Lukaku as well as Sanchez will cost a lot of money. Clubs would double/ triple their asking price once they know about United's interest.

The problem is we have an over bloated squad with over 28 players, if youngsters are going to have any chance of breaking through we need to bring it down to a 24 man squad.

The issue we have with that at the moment is we have several injury prone players so there is a reluctance to do so.

However, most people agree we need at least 4 new players this summer, maybe 5. If we added 5 new players our squad would be 33 players. So 9 first team players would need to leave to bring that down to around 24.

Darmian, Valencia, Jones, Rojo, Smalling, Andreas Pereira, Joel Pereira, McTominay, Mata.

With a RB, CB, CDM, CM and a winger. Promote Tuanzebe and one of Chong, Gomes or Greenwood with the other two going out on loan.

Agree with shappy. It is bloated. Mata's a great guy but what does he offer on the pitch?

Talk of a new deal for jones. Baffling.

I think we would all agree the priorities right now are defence then midfield then attack.
For me, People to leave (with suitable replacements coming in) in order of preference is:
Valencia
Rojo
Darmian
Jones
McTomm, Pireirra, Fred depending on the rest of this season.
Mata - I personally would keep him for his technical ability and professionalism, influence on youth (not his speed) . But we should replace him with more speed/ crosses on the right when we can

In the one window I don’t think we should or would change more than 3 or 4 at a pinch or it could be destabilising. New players take time to bed in.

I would be happy with the first 3 leaving if we bought a suitable RB and CB. Jones too if we bought a RB and 2 CB’s or promoted Tuanzebe to the first team squad. (he has played RB too)
I think we may bring in another midfielder without letting any go until Jan2020. But this could also see the lesser of the 3 midfielders leave.
I would let Mata go if we opted for speed on the RW
That would be ithe options with a max of 4 changes for the summer window for me.

P. S.
I would add to my list of departures - Lee Grant. Nothing against him as he seems to have fit in well but he is taking a spot in the squad that Joel P or Dean Henderson should have. it is not a high priority though just in terms of squad numbers.

Mort - I agree about Jones - he has been a good servant but he has had his opportunity and shown that he will not reach the level Sir Alex expected. Time for Tuanzebe now.

07 Feb 2019 10:16:04
I forgot about Grant, plus what to do with TFM? Is he good enough or does he need to move on?

07 Feb 2019 11:37:04
Move on shappy.

07 Feb 2019 11:38:48
Joel and Dean need to be playing, Grant doesn’t. He is happy as number 3 and that is where i would leave him.

What kind of development plan is it for JP and DH to sit as 3rd choice here and get little or NO game time.

The only way they stay here and not go out on loan again next season is if Romero goes.

07 Feb 2019 14:34:46
That’s an option too. I hav3nt seen enough of JP or DH to know if they are ready to take Romero’s spot. Romero has been very soliD back up for DDG.

07 Feb 2019 23:17:29
Let's face it. While DDG is here, no other keeper is going to get much game time. That's the way of the world when you're a keeper. If you're not first choice, and none of ours are by a long way, then very little game time. Joel and Dean, for the sake of their own careers, won't be here in 5 years time, unless one of them is happy being David's understudy.
