So a slight change of topic, Bayern Munich are pushing very hard for Callum Hudson-Odoi, and it looks like they might get their man.

It wouldn't be the first time recently that a young talented English player moved to the Bundesliga, in fact its becoming somewhat of a well walked path. Reece Oxford, Jadon Sancho, Ademola Lookman, Mandela Egbo, Kaylen Hinds, Osayamen Osawe and Reiss Nelson have all moved either permanently or on loan over the last few years.

We complain that Germany always do better than we do at international tournaments, we bemoan the riches of the conveyor belt of German talent, and lament the bare cupboard we have back at home.

Yet it is in Germany where many of our potentially next great generation of footballers are making their debuts and forging their careers.

Why is it possible and easier for our young players to get the regular minutes they need across the channel than it is here at the clubs many of them have been at since they were 7 years old.

If Hudson-Odoi does complete his move to German then the future first choice wingers of our country could both be playing in the Bundesliga and not our own EPL.

Is it a case of top clubs hoarding talent then not being able to give them a chance? Or is it more complicated?

Either way something needs to be done, or will we lose players like Gomes and Greenwood to Germany in a year or twos time.

We won't lose players like Greenwood and Chong because we are not Chelsea and we give youth a chance.

I think it would be better for kids to go and play in a tough league like Bundelsiga then just stay here and play for the reserve team and learn nothing.

Kida at 18 years of age need proper coaching and if they are playing with players below their level the they wouldn't learn anything.

Its a combination. Here most of the big clubs are ran by egomaniacs' for whom its all. about the latest expensive signing rather than play young academy talents. Its noticeable that the two main such clubs haven't produced much from their academies in years.

Also the standard of competition in Germany is lesser. Bayern are guaranteed to win the league in 8 out of 10 seasons. Dortmund are pretty much expected to be 2nd or win in those other 2 seasons. Beyond that everyone's only playing for European places and its a more level playing field. Here there's six teams vying for top 4.and even below that there's intense competition. The money on offer means most clubs won't risk 3-4 young players at once. Even United have dropped off on this. Jose only played McTominay to prove a point and Rashford only got his break because of injuries.

There is maybe ten teams in the Bundesliga who simultaneously know that getting in to Europe is their ceiling and would need an absolute horror show to even think about getting relegated. In these circumstances bringing through youth and hoping you unearth a gem is one of the most viable ways of competing with Bayern and Dortmund.

The problem in England is pretty much down to the top six clubs and the threat of no champions league. If this were taken away and the top six qualified at least for the CL playoffs maybe things would be different. Perhaps Chelsea would have gone all in with youth this year after their title challenge was over. Maybe we would have recalled Tuanzebe and played Chong after Mourinho was sacked.

Look at 90’s Italian football, a similar thing happened there whereby they had all the foreign imports which meant Italian player started moving to other leagues to get their chance. Football is just cyclic I guess.

Tricky keeping talent content and patient over time. I hope we have the right staff to do that.
For all we know Shappy, Odoi may choose to follow the likes of Albert adomah and kwesi Appiah and choose to play for Ghana instead of towing Welbeck's line. Likewise Ogbo, Osawe and Lookman may opt for Nigeria's National team.

I can't think of too many that have left and become top players in germany or anywhere else shappy.
Its a short list.
How many of chelseas loanees have gone on to be top players elsewhere.

Ken it's only a recent phenomenon, a couple of years old. It's also not about whether they become world class players or not, just that they needed to leave the country to get a chance.

Only 11 can play. kids coming through are normally 3rd choice for their position at best. Its tough getting games it very competitive. i'm not even sure its a phenomenon at all. I don't even think their is a handful of players gone anywhere in europe. Just hyperbole or fake news.
