I saw a comment on here yesterday saying people should get a grip and we are a top 6 side. It’s pretty sad when he best we can do is refer to ourselves as a top 6 side but my question right now is, are we?

If we win today we will move up to 8th, but even if we keep a clean sheet there will only be 4 teams who have conceded more than we have, and De Gea has been Player of the Year 4 times in the last 5 years. We are out of the League Cup (to a Championship side), progress in Europe looks like coming down to an away game against Valencia, in the League we have lost to Brighton and a poor West Ha, and across all competitions so far we have lost a third of our games.

Since SAF retired there have been a catalogue of bad decisions. Jose won a couple of cups in his first year and progressed to runners up last year but the signs this year all point in one direction.

I know we have some deep rooted issues but we really should be right now, we need some players but we have talent and ability throughout the squad. Right now we are bang average, and I don’t see that changing any time soon.

On current form we aren’t a top 6 side unfortunately tony. But this squad is more than capable of competing for top 4, perhaps third place. I don’t think the defence is good enough for us to win the title. Yes there are lots of problems off field but that doesn’t excuse the fact that Jose and the players are underperforming. We have Sanchez martial rashford Lukaku pogba mata Lingard for Christ sake. We play like we are the underdogs against every opposition we face. Reactionary football. No identity or style of play that we look to impose on the opposition. Just timid and conservative football hoping for a mistake by the opposition and a moment of magic from our forwards. I can’t see how anybody would think that not changing the manager wouldn’t improve us on the pitches. Yes the off field problems will still be there but at least we would enjoy watching united again.

I must say, I’m not an advocate of sacking Jose, but the signs are there that it’s very much time for both parties to end this marriage of (in) convenience.

However, I can only assume we have plans in place and these are most likely to be in summer rather than now.

I agree Park, and I typed the same but the last paragraph got garbled (fat fingers) . We should be challenging but we're not even at the party right now. And don't forget this is the same defence that was very solid last year.

Spot on Tony. No excuses for the position we are in. If anything, our team has improved with the additions of Fred and pereira in midfield. Being this far down in the league is inexcusable. We shouldn’t accept mediocrity. We are Manchester United not Burnley. We embarrassed ourselves on the big stage against Juve. Which top player wants to come and play for us when we play football like this? Personally if we are going to wait till the summer then I would go all out for Poch. Think he would do some potentially great things at united.

I really have no mood to watch the game given all the sadness around - Hoddle, Leicester owner, Pittsburgh shooting. What a dark weekend.

Get rid of players like Smalling, Jones, Sanchez and Pogba and start fresh. We even need a partner for Lukaku as he doesny score when it matters and needs proper competition.

If it was me I’d say to Poch how much you want to come, and here’s £400m, bring Kane, Eriksen and the 2 Centre halves with you. Poch ticks all the boxes for me, overachieved at spurs with limited funds, unfortunately you need money to complete, he plays football the right way, knows how to manage players, likes to bring in some youth, knows the Prem, perfect fit for me. I know we've more to solve upstairs than just changing manager but it will only end one way with Jose unfortunately, offer Poch before Real come sniffing again. Obvs rose 4 players would improve us and spurs need the money, not saying we’d get all but imagine them 4 in our spine.

I agree completely welsh.

AJH,
Having posted yesterday that we might even struggle to keep in the upper half of the league (IF we do not win convincingly today. ) I agree that 3 points today could be the start of something. Points lost today, given the awful start, and last seasons post Christmas dip, I want to be wrong but I have deep foreboding. As I said we have a group of players than could serve us reasonably well but they fail to consistently function as a coherent team.

Our failing seem to come from failure to really concentrate on defence and inability to put away the few chances we make. Basic things a good coach should be able to sort. Jose only seems able to try and buy in ready made short term answers.

I think a change of coach is on the horizon but I don't want a change in manager at the present as I have no faith in the present regime to make a decent appointment given the last three disasters.
