So, 2 years under Jose. How would you rate him out of 10 so far?

I'll kick off and say 6.5. Would be higher if he actually smiled and stopped being so publicly miserable. His style of football reflects his public persona unfortunately.

I still think he might change though for some reason.

Agree4 Disagree4

14 Aug 2018 13:29:16
7.5, style bringing the score down, but you can’t fault the fact we have improved in every area statistically and won trophies in our supposed lean years.

14 Aug 2018 13:52:51
2 out of 10. I'm being generous.

We look just as negative as when he took over (more so), none of us know whether he will be here come Christmas. Our star players are not playing to the levels required. Our tactics are easy to play against. Our potential stars have gone backwards. Signings for the most part have not enhanced the team much at all. We have fallen further behind City and our rivals look to be improving more than we are. It seems to be all about him, 99.99% of Utd fans are not expecting us to win the league this season - disgrace after 2 years in charge and mega money support - we should be expecting a close race at the very least.

We won a few weak cups, achieved 2nd in the league (despite not coming close to winning it and being fortunate imo), we are harder to beat than under LVG, but the very fact I am typing this is a problem as we should be talking about attacking intent, exciting football, players gelling, systems working and adapting to situations.

We still have no RW, RB and LB (that Jose rates) . It has been a stop-gap, temporary feel to the whole Jose period, we have stalled as a club, arguably gone backwards. The benchmark is City and Pep, not the clown LVG.

14 Aug 2018 15:05:45
I also think to judge him you need to agree on a benchmark as if you compare him to lvg we are better and he's improved on what we were but if you change the benchmark to other side's, okay is all I'd say. I'm not impressed with our style or the attitude and mood he often displays as he can make the club feel downbeat to me but I have to concede when he took the job if 2 cups in two years, a runner up spot and a cup final were offered then that is good from where we were . This year I hope fans have a clear mind about what is acceptable and what's not before a ball is kicked and not access it off other teams and constantly revise it . To me a third year in charge of man utd having spend large sums on lots of players then a realistic tittle challenge is the benchmark, a realistic challenge to me is come Easter still able to win it not just statisticaly but realistically .

14 Aug 2018 15:15:12
3 out of 10. Beast beat me to it, and i agree with his post entirely. I would also add that in addition to the rb, lb, rw areas, Mourinho doesn't trust our cb's, and he's bought TWO of them, he also doesn't trust our most talented player, pogba, and he bought him too.
He also bought mkhitaryan and sold him within 8 months. He's bought Sanchez and turned him into a useless player. He's also destroyed Martial, which is criminal.
Our style of football is pants, our tactics are so predictable, and our players are not playing to their potential as they seem confused and scared to play.
If anyone can argue with the above and what Beast wrote, then you've not been watching United for the past two years.
It really has been a joke as he's fallen out with most players the fans, the owners, woodward, the refs, the media. Can all these people be wrong and Mourinho be right? Struth.
Its fine supporting the players unconditionally but supporting the manager, when he's clearly moving in the wrong direction and about tp jump off the footballing cliff, is utterly stupid. Only sheep do that, and I know we are all more intelligent than that.

14 Aug 2018 15:25:39
Has he really came out and said 'i don't trust my centrebacks' or is that all of them last season were injured at one point or another.

14 Aug 2018 15:31:32
Like all of us I would like to see us playing with more flair, but to go as low as 2/ 10 after having won 2 trophies in his first year, getting us to 2nd place last year with an improvement in goals scored, seems a little on the ridiculous side. I'd say 6 for now, but this season is the key to determining his overall success.

14 Aug 2018 15:36:00
I wouldn’t trust our centre backs either, Smalling and Jones have repeatedly let us down wether it be injury, senseless shirt tugging, mindless decision making, poor passing etc etc. Hopefully he sticks with Bailly and a much improved Lindelof going forward. Jose has obvs improved us against LVG or Moyes but not against SAF but as we have had overhaul after overhaul it will take time to complete it or do we really want yet another manager with yet another philosophy with yet another backroom team and yet another 3/ 4 Windows of bringing in the new players and then what if nobody is happy again with the next manager? Hate to tell you but no guarantee a new manager will play this heavenly football we all crave.

14 Aug 2018 16:03:40
I will take SAF as a benchmark of 10, then Jose is atleast 7.5 right now simply because SAF wasnt anywhere in his first 5 years. He was backed and given time. I am ready to bet anything that if SAF was incharge now, he wouldn't last 2 years.

14 Aug 2018 16:14:18
Ok Beast, if City are the benchmark for Jose to be judged on then let's talk. In the summer of 2016 they both took over as manager of their respective clubs. That summer United finished 5th while City finished 4th. The year before that, United finished 4th, City were Champions.

Jose had to rebuild a squad that had been woefully managed the last decade. We were crying out for a new spine and that's what Jose spent his first transfer window addressing. Our world class players list before Jose took over would read "De Gea". That's it, I can't think of another player in that squad that would be considered "world class".

Pep on the other hand took over a much more balanced side. World class players would be Kompany, Silva, De Bruyne, Aguero. The spine of the team had been together for years. Won titles together. Pep just needed to fine tune the City team. Jose had to rebuild our's.

While nearly every position in our team needed improvement, Jose had to be systematic about it. Money being a finite resource, it was going to take a few windows and fair few quid to make us title challengers again.

The fact that you belittle winning the "weak" trophies smacks of arrogance. Did you jump out of your seat when Zlatan scored the third goal in the league cup final? Last minute winner at Wembley, if that doesn't get your juices going then find a new sport. Europa League may not be as easy on the eye as it's cousin, but it's still a big trophy to win. I was proud of the team winning that competition, first time in our history.

Then our second season comes around. Jose bolsters the defence, midfield and attack. He wanted another wide player but for whatever reason, the board wouldn't get him the player he wanted.

A small hop across Manchester. Pep decides the 30 million pound goal keeper he bought before isn't good enough so he replaces him with a 50 million pound one. Buys 3 full backs for a combined fee of a small nations defense budget. And another 110 million on Stones and Laporte. And that's just the defense!

Our 94 team, 99 team, 08 team, points wise couldn't touch this Manchester City team. I don't know how you can use it as a stick to beat Jose with. "Finished 2nd despite not coming close to winning it and being fortunate". This is truly embarrassing.

The facts are, we don't have a devine right to win the league. Finishing second last year wasn't fortunate, it was good management. We finished second behind a team that as bought 23 players to our 14. City have given Pep every player he's asked for while our club penny pinches over players Jose wants.

The amount of negativity around the club is horrible. I remember last year kicking off the league campaign with a few 4-0 wins. The doom and gloomers saying "it was only Swansea, it was only West ham". Liverpool start off the campaign with a 4-0 win and the same people are on here telling us how fast they unbuckled their belts.

Are we capable of beating any team that is put in front of us? Yes! Are we capable of mounting a title challenge? Yes!

Get behind the team for once. It can be enjoyable!

14 Aug 2018 16:42:02
2/ 10 haha some of you don't know you're born. Hilarious reading though guys well done, let's hope there aren't any scousers on here laughing at us all, it's embarrassing.

14 Aug 2018 16:52:05
Gds2 I thought you would go higher than 2/ 10 😀.

14 Aug 2018 17:02:27
Think I have disagreed with every post beast has ever made and I would awardhim 2/ 10 also .
If I was an ice skating judge I wd give jose 8pts for technical ability and 6 points for artistic impression.

14 Aug 2018 17:12:33
Gds2 do you mind if I ask what is your benchmark this season, what will make it a successful season and what isn't good enough . Do u expect the title or a title challenge, or just top 4 . Personally I think a serious tilt at it . It may explain why people disagree if we know what we are judging it on in the first place, same question to most posters really.

14 Aug 2018 16:54:32
7 out of 10 . Jose = Born winner 😆😆.

14 Aug 2018 18:13:47
With the players Mourinho had to play with i would give it 7 out of 10. Players like Jones, Smalling, Fellaini, Valencia, Young, Lingard as our first teamers there is no wonder we haven't won the title but it is a job qell done we came 2nd last year and won the europa league the year before that.

14 Aug 2018 18:31:57
This is the year. This is the one that the eternal optimists said would be the year. Well, first of all it was 3 transfer windows. Then three seasons. Now of course, in the third season, it's the Glazer's fault for not throwing a zillion more quid at the problem, which is a convenient scapegoat, after he was backed to the hilt in his first two seasons. Please, no more excuses if this year isn't the one. We're sounding more and more like that lot down the road.

14 Aug 2018 18:28:40
Loving it mumbles! Brilliant.

14 Aug 2018 18:41:46
Mort, the fact he's been chasing 5 cb's during the transfer window, says all we need to know about his trust in the current cb's.

14 Aug 2018 18:42:33
Good post Mumbles.

14 Aug 2018 18:59:41
Mumbles, your post is laughable. The doom and gloom as you put it, didn't come from us my friend, it came from our manager, who quite simply told us that if we don't buy more players "then its going to be a long season". When questioned on our title chances, he prefered not to give an answer.
Do you honestly hand on heart think that we can win the league this year? Just sit back for a second and reply without bias. As it stands, we have zero chance of winning the league. We don't even seem to play as a team, we don't attack with intent. So how are we going to beat the likes of City, Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea away from home? How are we going to score enough goals if Lukaku picks up an injury? How are we going to get the best out of Pogba and Martial when the manager seems hell bent on selling them?
I'm all for supporting the team, that's a given, but supporting a manager that seems out of touch and seems unhappy, no thank you.
Last year, we were neck and neck with City until they came to OT. Mourinho chose the coward way to park the bus, AT HOME, Guadiola chose to play attacking football and they played us off the park. A 3 point gap became 5 and the rest is history. Mourinho will not change, and we won't win the league (the competition that really matters, Fergie's words), while he's in charge.

14 Aug 2018 19:02:10
Hart, Zabaleta, Kolarov, Mangala, Demichaelis, Bony, Dzeko, Nasri, Iheanacho, Nolito, Fernando, Navas, Caballero, Clichy, etc.

All shipped out by Pep, deemed not good enough and gone one way or another. Meanwhile, we still play with men the manager doesn't want and they don't want to be here - week in week out.

We still play the exact same tactics as the first day he took over, it's all about containment - Leicester dominated the ball at Old Trafford for Christs sake!

Have Shaw, Rashford, Martial improved since Jose took over, our 3 potential world class youngsters?

Have the existing quality players we had done anything of note? Have his signings done anything of note?

City have signed players for a system, most have worked. They play attacking football, good to watch, starting to give youth players a spin and encouraging noises being made. Meanwhile we have signed target men without wingers, CB's the manager doesn't rate, creative players but we play hoof ball, picked failed wingers as full backs, picked out of form players because of their brand/ wages. Basically we are a mess, we are not a team under good management.

I'm sorry but if you think Jose is onto something and we are going in the right direction then you are deluding yourselves. Europa League and the League Cup are Mickey Mouse cups, just like the Charity Shield is a friendly - go back 10 years we would mock opposing fans for using those cups as claims of success! That alone should tell you all you need to know about his tenure.

Granted it was a hard job, but it will be a lot harder for the next guy! What groundwork is Jose laying, it's like a minefield.

14 Aug 2018 19:02:27
Good post Mumbles
7/ 10 . He had to pick the club off the floor after one utter failure and another who changed direction for the worst. The backroom staff had been decimated and confidence had evaporated. He started with a poorly put together average side and moved us up the table last season. If the club had supported him in the summer 17 window with the 4th player it might have been better.
If the vitriol gets the managerial change some want they may also get the mess they deserve.

14 Aug 2018 19:04:40
Spot on Stevie. At some stage, he has to be judged at winning the PL. It is the true baroneter of how good or bad we are.
Gds, so we are embarrassing for expecting our great club to win the pl title. Why is this embarrasing? You didn't answer the original question, what marks out of 10 would you give Mourinho and why?

14 Aug 2018 19:10:25
Noucamp, we're sounding more and more like that lot down the road? Would that be Liverpool? Who the doom and gloomers wish we played like? Who never stop comparing them to us?

It's easy being pessimistic. It's the same group that lost their lunch last year when we signed Matic over Bakayoko. Lovely how that one worked out isn't it. Complain complain complain. It's pathetic!

14 Aug 2018 19:21:07
Mumbles, I was referring to their fans who have been full of excuses for years. All I'm hearing just now from our lot, is, "just one more transfer window, and it'll be alright'. Except when those pesky Glazers go and spoil things, of course.

14 Aug 2018 19:23:04
How's it looking for that lot down the road Mumbles? Maybe the fans not accepting rubbish makes things happen.

14 Aug 2018 19:31:15
1 out of 10 and that's only because he hasn't got us relegated yet. I've stopped watching my beloved Utd because of Mourinho. What's the point? It's rubbish.

14 Aug 2018 19:48:44
A few years ago you guys use to laugh and taunt livepool fan things like " this year will be our year". I think you guys have become anembarassment and liverpool fans are probably laughing at us. How quickly have the tables changed!

14 Aug 2018 19:47:00
They're the 4th best team in the league Beast, they're a good outfit. They'll win more than they lose but until their one dimensional manager can get them over the line, I remain unconvinced.

14 Aug 2018 19:50:21
AAA, of course we have a chance of winning the league. You say we have no chance of beating the top 6 away. Well we beat City, Arsenal and drew with Liverpool and we won the home games against the ones we lost. We beat every team once last year, who's to say we can't win an extra 3 games and get to around 90 points?

Your hypothetical scenarios are nonsense because they're hypothetical. Ifs ifs ifs. All I know is that we have a team that can beat anyone on their day and a manager who is fantastic at affecting games from the touchline. That alone means we have a chance!

14 Aug 2018 19:58:03
1 out of 10 because it's me.

On a serious note I would say 5 out of 10. Middle of the road.

Needs to get the team playing better football, get the most out of the players we have. Create a better atmosphere around the club.

14 Aug 2018 20:02:50
Mumbles, you're calling another team one dimensional? I know glass houses are see through but surely you must have noticed.

14 Aug 2018 20:07:35
Mancman, I said they've a one dimensional manager.

14 Aug 2018 20:22:18
I think you've got to remember that most people around the world chose to support United because they're successful.

Trophies are everything for some so entertainment doesn't mean much.

14 Aug 2018 20:33:38
The man has done enough for another go this season however we haven't laid a glove on Chelsea or city in the last two year, we were probably 20 points off the pace each year . if we got rid of managers every two year after 2 trophies, a runner up spot and a cup final then we set a daunting task for the next guy .
It's third year now though and we have spent lots of money in the last 3 year and JM has inherited the world's best keeper, he's bought a RB and two CBS, the probable first choice 3 man midfield, the striker and a wide man, there is no excuse now to be dull or not to challenge it's his team now . Let's hope he plays better stuff and challenges and if come the season end we don't do well enough then stop giving excuses .

14 Aug 2018 20:55:07
As I said the other day we had 11 different combos st cb last year. Is it the managers fault rojo, jones and Smalling are made of glass? How does he not rate the 2 he signed? Bailly had some injuries and lindelof took time to settle. Yes he wanted another one. He wanted an experienced leader. We were also trying to sell rojo and Smalling.

14 Aug 2018 21:32:25
Jose took over a team that had finished joint 4th and won the fa cup .
Again the silly over the top " Jose took over a team on it's knees ".

Or we can't beat a top 6 team we did last season and finished second .

Jose doing what Jose does.

14 Aug 2018 21:48:47
I hope we do better jred and hopefully we will if it's 20 points off the pace again then 3 year in a row of that can't be accepted as doing well, it's the sort of stuff Liverpool churned out for years .
Jose has a big reputation and it's time to show why and challenge .

14 Aug 2018 22:03:21
8 out of ten because every aspect of our game is better.

{Ed025's Note - not the entertainment mate..

15 Aug 2018 00:02:02
3/ 10 for me. When you get a new manager in you want to see improvement. When the manager is one of the best paid in the business you want to see big improvement in one season, in 2 seasons you want to be challenging for the major trophies if your one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
You don't want a manager that falls out with players and blames everything on someone else.
Jose is a yesterday man I'm afraid.
His ways are out dated.

15 Aug 2018 00:37:40
Ed you don't think we're more entertaining now than under lvg?

{Ed025's Note - to be honest mate no, i see signs now and then of a bit of fluency but to me the players seem very introvert, i dont think it was great under lvg either but with the players united have i expect better, i dont know if they are scared to make a mistake or just dont buy into the jose style of play but i find it mundane and think its all about the result over entertainment, just my view of course..

15 Aug 2018 04:12:50
For entertainment Ed, i watch Comedy Central. 90 minutes in a week, i am sure i can manage without that elusive entertainment as long as my team wins. Does that sound fair?

{Ed025's Note - a bit shallow if im honest shan, its an entertainment industry mate..

15 Aug 2018 06:43:21
Foe me it’s about 7/ 10. Won 2 trophies the first year, runners up the second year. However, I don’t see it getting better than 7/ 10. Entertainment is poor, play is slow and lacks energy, and the Manager appears not to want to be here.

15 Aug 2018 07:53:53
I basically agree with Beast except for his ridulously low score of 2.
Beast you are Craig Reville Horwood of the Strictly come Old Trafford crowd.

15 Aug 2018 08:47:53

I don't think it's embarrassing that people want us to win the league, I think giving a 2/ 10 for a manager who came 2nd to the best points tally ever when trying to win the league is the laughable thing. The season before he won 2 trophies, we weren't even in the CL when he arrived, how can his performance be a 2/ 10?

It's hard to give just one number out of 10 like it is for a player in a match, there are so many different aspects to his performance and what he has achieved that just putting one number against it is very hard.

To give 2/ 10 you have to have really decided not to like him and obviously decided that winning the league is the only thing that matters and if he finished 2nd or 17th he would get a low score.

I know Ed said he hasn't improved the entertainment but perhaps he didn't watch us often under LVG, I went to 11 consecutive home games were we didn't score in the 1st half, one game we didn't have a shot on target, it is easy to re-write history but we are so much better than that it's unbelievable.

I just don't get the negativity I suppose, ok we could have done with a couple more players but all that has happened so far is that we beat a decent Leicester team 2-1, got 3 points out of 3 possible, why be negative when nothing has gone wrong yet? I'm sure some are hoping we lose a couple of games so they can say 'see I told you Jose is a 2/ 10', it really is ridiculous and as I said, quite frankly embarrassing.

15 Aug 2018 17:08:34
Very good post GDS. I think its a personal thing some people they just don't like Jose so there is no point explaining something to them it is like banging your heàd on a wall.

15 Aug 2018 08:25:14
Unfortunately Ed I think you are wrong now, it is an entertainment industry for the fans but for most that are involved in the game it is just about money.

{Ed025's Note - the money is one of the biggest problems tot and especially those blood sucking agents so i will have that, but speaking as a fan if i spend my hard earned money going to a game i want something that will get me off my seat, united have always been a value for money club imo and even when they were not at their best everyone tried, i fail to get excited watching them these days especially in the big games where they seem to play not to lose rather than to win, but if you are happy with what you are seeing then more power to you mate..
