Why are many Utd fans up in arms over Lee Grant signing? Seems like they want Oblak or Alisson as 3rd choice keeper, my word. Makes sense, Free transfer, cheap on wages, PL proven and experienced and it gives J. Pereira and D. Henderson the chance to get a loan move, fans want a big name signing it seems, fickle.

Think most fans want to see a youngster there. Tbh I’m not fussed either way. It’s a win win for me either way. It allows pereira to go on loan and get so valuable playing time which he is unlikely to get for us. No point him sitting on the bench and not gaining any experience. Grant is average but he is there as cover as a last resort. He will hardly play so it doesn’t really matter.

Strange one for me Scholes, people seem to want a youngster there not getting any game time when they could be out learning their trade in competitive games. Seems a decent, cheap 3rd choice to me, experienced which will help, no issues for me at all.

My issue is that the third choice keeper only ever plays if the first two are injured. So in reality they will never get a game in the first team, so more often than not then end up playing games for the under 23's to keep match sharp.

I don't see the point in having a 35yo average at best keeper in that position. It might as well be a youngster like O'Hara, while Henderson and Pereria go out on loan. There are rules in place which allows you to bring in an emergency goalkeeper outside of the transfer of window if all your first teams keepers are injured. So I see no need to have someone like Grant at the club taking minutes away from our youngsters at under 23 level, while earning more money than a youngster would receive to in reality never play for the club.

I see it as a waste of time and resources while also impeding the development of our young goalkeepers. The problem for young goalkeepers is that there is only one position for you to play in, so it's really tough getting minutes to progress and improve. It's not like being a CB and filling in at full back, or being a striker and playing out wide, or being a defender pushed up into midfield to cover. For goalkeepers its your position or nothing.

I think it shows a poor mentality to restrict the progression of our young players for a third choice keeper.

Perhaps young O’hara might go out on loan leaving kovar to play for the 23s. No one knows what’s happening with the transfers bar Mourinho and Woodward. It is highly possible that they want to develop henderson, pereria and o’hara on loan. If that is the case then Lee Grant makes sense as a signing. We also don’t know what he’s like on the training ground, he’s been around for a while so will have good experience, something which could also be invaluable, and if that’s the case I’m all for it.
The united fan base gets so divided over things like this at the moment and it shouldn’t be the case. We have two top class keepers, let the younger ones develop on loan. Also Grant isn’t a bad keeper either, seem to remember him having an absolute stormer a couple of seasons ago at OT.

Caolan,

There is very little to moan about at the moment and the World Cup is on so every little thing becomes a huge drama, Fellaini and now Lee Grant, might as well write the season off etc.

I agree GDS. Getting fed up with some of the negativity at the moment. Everything comes back to the manager, Woodward etc. Let’s maybe be optimistic and see what happens?!
