Afternoon. So I have been trying to find out a bit about Fred and what sort of player he is as to be honest, I've never heard of him and from what I have seen, he will bring a few key things to us that we have been lacking recently in Midfield.
First thing, he seems to like to play positive, forward passes into attackers feet, breaking opposition midfield lines which is what Carrick used to do when he was playing regularly for us.
He seems comfortable in running with the ball from centre midfield and going past player which is something we have lacked since a young Roy Keane or Paul Ince and is really very effective in a game.
Finally, he seems to like picking up a card or two which although maybe looked at as a negative, I think we have lacked a bit of bite and aggression in CM over recent years so will be nice to see someone who is prepared to lay a glove on the opposition.
My research tool for this? YOUTUBE. I know I know but unfortunately I don't subscribe to Shakhtar Donetsk TV or Ukrainian Sky Sports and I have no distant Ukrainian family member who is a Shakhtar season ticket holder so this was my best option. As for the 2 games Shakhtar played against City, I had no interest in watching that lot!
Anyway, if youtube Fred shows up in a United Shirt, he could be a real catalyst for us.

Thanks Ports - I've never seen him either but your assessment does give me some hope that he could fill a key void. Although your description sounds like Herrera (or what Herrera used to be) .
I'd be interested to know how much time our scouts have spent in Ukraine in recent times. I think Fernandinho came from their and he sounds similar, so fingers crossed!

Beast - I was thinking that about Herrera too when typing. Hopefully Fred will continue to develop well. I think I saw somewhere, maybe Phil Vickery? likened him to Fernandinho and thought that was who City were looking to replace him with?
Jred, you are right but as some posts have shown on here, us United fans are impatient and want it all yesterday! I hope he gets some good minutes on the pitch at the WC, the Brazilian gaffer spoke highly of him.

From what I have seen (in my extensive research ), he looks to have the same defensive intensity as Herrera but also has the ability to drive forward with the ball at pace and slip passes into runners. He looks like a good prospect.

Fred will be unlikely to play much during the WC. Few appearances from the bench unless they get a few injuries in midfield.

At least this boy has had experience of playing in Europe, in what I imagine is a fairly tough, uncompromising league. I think Kleberson was taken straight from Brazil. Could be an important difference.

Nice review Port's. Reaffirmed what I hoped for from him. Let's hope you tube Fred does indeed turn up. I'd be happy if he played little at world cup and came to us fresh.

He might have all the abilities to play great football but does he have the physical power to deal with the toughness of English football? . The culture shock plus the physicality of the EPL frightens some players so let's hope he can tough it out and Matic shows him the ropes.

The Ukrainian league is quite physical and tough. May take time to adjust but think he will be fine. Excited to see what he can bring to the team.
