Seeing as the defence is just as important as attack for jose, why not go nuts out and sign not only alderweirald but also eric dier, i think dier could be the leader needed, give the spuds shaw, smalling and jones, heck give them martial if it gets the deal over the line, at least that way its put to bed now, and not spent in a bidding war over the summer on players from other leagues who normally take a season to settle in, spend extra if needed, just get players in so the team can hit the ground running, hungry and angry for wasting last season, splash the cash now.

Not a fan of Dier myself, he gives the ball away a lot, very average at most parts of the game. He can make good last ditch tackles and is decent in the air, but we'd get our pants pulled down for Spurs weak link imo.

Dier is so average it’s painful. I would like to see Alderweireld come in but we already have two very good young cbs at the club who we should be building our defence around. Lindelof and bailly have hardly been allowed to play together or build an understanding. That is 60m spent on defenders the manager wanted. No point buying more if he is going to just bench them for dumb and dumber (jones and smalling) . Perhaps giving bailly and lindelof an opportunity to make the position there own would be the best way forward. It’s not rocket science.

Dier is often exposed and slow thinking. He is no better than Phil Jones at CB or CM.

Lindelof improved a lot over the season, just think he needs a good run instead of the odd game, shame he never really got to try and build a partnership with Bailly this season.

Glad to se eopinions to my own on dier I think he’s dire (waheyyy) he doesn’t offer anything really, bad being a utility player. Think I’d rather have jones as much as he makes mistakes he puts 110% every game.

Fair do, i was just thinking maybe its time to buy players who know the league, as for dier (dire), fair enough, i just think he could do a job (yes a bad one, before anyone says maybe), but he has leadership quality, look the likes of when tony adams started at the arse, even his own fans called him a donkey, look at john terry at chavski, not blessed with pace or technical ability, but again it was what he brought as a whole that made the fans (and players' wives! ) love him, i see dier in that same mold, clearly the united dressing room is lacking someone to bring them together, and so far there's no-one stepping up;so for me, dier could be that man., but that'll be just me again then!

Agreed Cesar never seen the obsession of praise in dier. Never been impressed by him. Too slow as cb and has not got a good enough passing range to play defensive midfield.
Dawz- that would be square pegs in round holes again. Lindelof was bought to play cb and should be played there. Need to start playing players in their proper positions.
