Just a few reflections on last night. Firstly Shaw had a good game but he cramped up late on and still looks to be "chunky". I really do think he needs a run of games to get properly match fit. Young was left out but will surely play in the FA Cup. Jose is not wrong when he says we have had a decent season. Not great but definitely better than recent ones. For all their great football Liverpool and Spurs are lower in the league. Going forward it may be that if we can find a Cantona like player he could help inspire the team. Zlatan was that player when he came. His presence lifted the whole team. City have de bruyne and Liverpool Salah. Barcelona have Messi and RM have Ronaldo. The problem is finding such players. Lastly if we want to be fair to Jose we need to judge him when he has the players he wants and they play with the mentality he has.

Agreed shaw still looks chunky but I thought he was one of our better players last night. Not that anybody particularly stood out. You would expect pogba to be that Cantona type of player. We’ve paid big bucks for him and it’s time he starts consistently leading this team and taking games by the scruff of the neck. He’s shown he can do it but it’s too fleeting unfortunately. Tactics don’t help him but it’s time he stood up and be the star man of this team that we need so dearly. The lack of leaders is a serious problem in this team and it’s so evident when we are under pressure.

I can remember less than 5 games where Shaw hasn't been one of our best players if played. The manager clearly doesn't rate him, but whenever I watch him play I always tend to come away thinking "why is he not playing as he did nothing wrong and a lot right". Just imagine if he was allowed to gain match fitness!
Shaw is a bit similar to how Rooney would have turned out had SAF had a grudge. Certain players have problems keeping the weight off and need to play, sure as professionals they should keep fit, but everyone has a vice, their's is just easy to spot. I can't help but feel a different manager would have used Shaw to their advantage not as a scapegoat. Shaw puts in the effort, plays with heart and attacking intent - but he carries timber. Much rather that than most of our players who lack heart!
Literally every time Shaw plays he is in the top 3 performers for us and that is despite rustyness! He brings 10X more to the table than Ashley Young.

Good post beast agree with all that. Loved seeing shaw pile drive into 4 West Ham players to back pogba up after noble tried to scratch his face. Always plays with passion and desire. I am still baffled as to why Young gets picked over him. Decisions like these are the reason why fans doubt Jose. I firmly believe if shaw moves elsewhere and gets a run of games he will be in the top 3 lbs in the league. I can see us signing a lb for next season and young being played rb. Yes young has had some good performances but he shouldn’t be anywhere near our first team if we have aspirations of winning the league.
