So there we have it, Le Professeur has finally stepped down, least he'll leave in a respectable manner (hopefully) after receving s**t loads of abuse in the past few years. Absolutely loved our games against Arsenal all them years ago, two icons of the PL went head to head and it couldn't have been any better. All the talk about Guardiola changing English football this season but it was Arsene in '96 who really brought in a new style, ideas, tactics etc, combining technical skills with pace, power and grit.

Can’t believe it’s finally happening. He was amazing when he came and the rivalries with arsenal were so intense I miss them so much. I grew up on united v arsenal, Fergie v Wenger and Keano v vieira. No rivalry has come close to that. If arsenal can get a top manager in and sort out there defence they will be close to challenging imo. Got some very good attacking players. Apparently vieira is being talked about as the replacement. Would be a very interesting signing.

Would hate it if they got someone like Allegri or Simeone.

Agree Scholes. From the outside it seems they have been putting the ground work in the club with the appointment of mislentat for recruitment. Something which we seem to have failed to do. I think that if they get the appointment right they will be flying next season.

Tuchel is their man.

20 Apr 2018 12:03:07
Psg bound tuchel i thought.

Tuchel to arsenal. Jose to psg. Big sam to united. Told by a pigeon.

Bang on Scholes. IF Wenger used the funds Guardiola got to use or spent the money he did. I reckon he wouldve got a similar type of season this year if not better.

I enjoyed Aresenals team over the years and the way they played rather then this Guardiola team.

Are joking? Wenger went a full season undefeated he was a fantastic manger but them days have gone.
Arsenal have underperformed for a few seasons now and even with an extra 100 mill wouldn't be on city's level .
Been a fantastic manager but past his best now.

For Wenger to keep them in champions league for the amount of consecutive years like he did, with the amount of top players leaving each other is a great achievement. Infact a very big achievement.

He took on Fergie with his teams and the way he played attacking football. I reckon the owners of Arsenal football club were just happy with the champions league footie each year hence why as soon as they are not achieveing that this year is the year Wenger has decided to quit.

His main aim was to qualify for champions league in the last 10 years which he did exceptionally with the type of player he had.

When you are a manager you are only mirroring what your owners expect of you and the expectations in the last 10 years at Arsenal was to qualify for champions league based on what we saw in terms of funds available, players moving away and players signed.

Haha mort 😂. Agree jred Wenger was great but he should have gone 5 years ago. A legend but it’s said how his reputation has taken a hit the last few years. hope he gets the send off he deserves as it’s an end of an era of managers staying long term at clubs. If they get Tuchel they will be a force next year.

20 Apr 2018 13:30:08
I don't think Tuchel is all that tbh. His Dortmund team wasn't particularly great (Klopp's were better) and I cannot see him taking Arsenal from where they are now to title challengers.

20 Apr 2018 13:31:36
I think we'll see Unai Emery Or Leonardo Jardim move to Arsenal.

{Ed004's Note - Jardim would be a very good appointment}

20 Apr 2018 13:58:23
Money was there for arsenal last few years .33 points off city .

Been a great manager, but had his day.

20 Apr 2018 14:16:55
Maybe he's saved the money for the next manager just like Fergie did at United.

Game of fine margins. Always had a lot of respect and admiration for Wenger, but probably stayed on too long. If SAF hadn't bought RVP, and won the title in his last year, I sometimes wonder if he would have been tempted to stay on to oversee another challenge. If so, and he failed, we might be talking about him, with the same open disdain that we've seen from Arsenal fans over the last few years. Sorry, just waffling.

Either way I don't think Wenger would of had a better season than city.

20 Apr 2018 15:08:22
He was an inspired and brave choice as manager by the Arsenal board at the time, after Rioch and Graham. No one had really heard of him. His ideas revolutionised the Premiership and his and Arsenal's rivalry with Ferguson's United was incredible. Some of the best games I have ever watched.
I agree, Jardim would be a good choice for them.

20 Apr 2018 13:46:00
Ed004 - I know mate, the kind of manager that some of us wanted to take over at Man United, but it is what it is. as SAF said we have to stand by the manager, regardless of who it is.

Sad to see him go, at one point I hated everything about him. However, as I've aged I've realised it was born out of him being a great manager and him denying my club titles and adulation. He will be a loss to the EPL. However, in recent seasons he has shown signs of not aging well. He has become stuck in his ways, refusing to adapt to a new football landscape and has become redundant as a result. His team's had the same old failings every year. You knew how Arsenal's season was going to go, where they would drop points and why. So for the good of the competition a manager with a more modern approach who can get Arsenal challenging again would be good.

I wish him all the best, maybe a spell in international football might suit him before a deserved retirement.

I hope Arsenal don't get Jardim, he could be very good for them. I'd like to see Rodgers given the role. I think the Arsenal job would suit him better than the Liverpool one did. His weakness is he likes the spotlight too much and takes his eyes off the ball. At a club like Liverpool like ours there is a massive spotlight. The players at Arsenal suit how Rodger likes to try and play. Also I would like to see a British manager given a chance at a top club.

I 8-2 See him go 😂.

21 Apr 2018 07:41:47
The end of a long era, there are similarities to our transition from SAF however there are differences. Wenger is not leaving with the team at the top so for the new manager they will likely there is only one way to go and have less pressure. It will be interesting to see how they see the next appointment. They are a big club that have accepted lower expectations to accommodate their manager, will that change overnight? Will they suddenly turn into that success driven cut throat club? I doubt it, what they are means they can appoint someone like Vieira and give him time.

They should learn from the debacle we went through twice after Busby and SAF, their appointment is tougher than any other they have done. I would go with Loew if I was them but I can’t see them going for Moyes though.

They could do a lot worse than Benitez.
