Ok much has been said about sanchez being given the iconic number 7 shirt as worn by best, Robson, Cantona, Beckham and ronaldo well the simple question is who is the best player to have worn that shirt?
For me although my heart says Best my head says Ronaldo. I still remember his debut against Bolton as a sub when in the space of 20 mins a 1 0 deficit became a 4 1 win. The goose stepping step overs and the dribbling ability left the crowd spellbound and we all new then that we were watching someone who would become something special.

For United best.
Ronaldo moved up a level at Madrid.

{Ed007's Note - No Michael Owen?}

Its hard to pick the best of them. All different players in different eras who left their mark.
Best was the first footballing superstar who cane to a club still rebuilding after Munich and helped to win that first European cup.
Robson carried us through an era when we were just a cup side but he drive us on as a captain should.
Eric was the catalyst for that first title in 26, the catalyst for the Fergie era league domination and inspired the class of 96.
Beckham was Mr showbiz. Scored some great goals.
Ronaldo was Ronaldo. As you say we witnessed something special.

Its hard to pick the best. In terms of talent and skill its between Best and Ronaldo. In terms if impact on the team it's Eric.

MD7 all the way.

Robson, no debate for me. He would be worth £200M nowadays.

23 Jan 2018 13:51:41
The best? Well clues probably in the name my favourite however was becks.

Torn between Di Maria and Depay. Both were absolute club legends: gave everything for the shirt, and have so many stand out moments.

23 Jan 2018 14:03:23
Georgie the Belfast Boy. No question whatsoever.

23 Jan 2018 14:08:26
Cantona for me. Was my hero growing up! Would be best in terms of skill set but King Eric was one of the main reasons I supported United.

I'm told by many that know that George was the best but I am too young to have appreciated him.

Between the others it is such a tough choice but I would probably say Cantona for the impact he had for us.

Robson was amazing, a real captain, Ronaldo has become the best player in the world and one of the top 5 to ever play the game and Beckham's workrate and time he took to become to player he became was immense despite probably being the least talented of the 5.

What it definitely tells us is that the last few number 7s haven't deserved the shirt and finally we have a player that might be a catalyst for something special.

23 Jan 2018 14:37:42
Can you imagine Georgie on today's pitches and the extra protection from the referees?

23 Jan 2018 14:38:13
Lolll juST realised who MD7 was.

The best number 7 in my time of being a fan, for me is Bryan Robson. An absolutely brilliant captain and player and exactly what we’re missing now.

23 Jan 2018 16:28:00
Noucamp he'd be the first billionaire footballer. Although if he was around now in his prime he'd be working his way thru the cast of Hollyoaks, Little Mix and the revived Miss World.

23 Jan 2018 16:42:06
Lol mort he sure would. Imagine the headlines if georgie was kicking about now. I missed his time gds but from what every fan told me who was lucky enough to witness him and the many 7s that came after, George was something exceptional.

There way tie between Best, Robson and Cantona. Ronaldo played his best after he left us unfortunately, and although I have a lot of affection for Becks he just wasn't as talented or influential as the others.

Best was simply a genius like which the world had never seen before, Robson was everything you wanted from a captain and Cantona was the most influential.

Robson was a bit special .
He was United, we looked lost with out him .
Same for England as well.
85/ 86 I think United would of went close to winning the league and England the world cup with a fit Robson.

I saw Best live in the flesh once, I remember the awe I had when he walked on the pitch, back then you could only watch the clips on tv and yet could see the genius. As an all round man with the genius it would always be best. However on pure football talent it is Ronaldo for me. I was at the Bolton game and that day something very special started. It isn’t just the two footed ability, the power to run, to dribble to score and to finish. What put him above was his unbelievable heading ability, to head like a centre forward. The day he played against Bolton I had never seen the like before and that included all the other greats.

When we look at consistency Becks wasn’t half bad either.

23 Jan 2018 23:43:42
Totally agree jred on 86 wc and put a fit robson in the 90 wc team and he would have been the difference.

Best played in an era when the pitches were often little better than mud baths. He played in an era where the football was very much heavier, especially in the wet, and tackles which today are given red cards were considered as par for the course then. He would have been even greater in today's game. Left foot right foot headers dribbling defending and blessed with a fine football brain as well as instinctive genius he had it all. O top it off he wasn't too bad looking either.

Best was before my time but growing up Robson was my hero. That then changed to Roy Keane, so for me it has to be Robbo.
