Spurs showing us again how a big team should be treated. NOT LESS THAN ANY TEAM. I would love my team to play against any big club with the ambition to win.
Last time we played against Real Madrid, I sensed complacency among our players, managers and even some of the fans. The players were not giving their all as it was like "Even if we loose, it would be against a top team". Even some fans lauded their wonderful team saying we lost against a champions league winner and it would be hard to win against them. Frankly, it is annoying to give up even before the match.
I hope that now we play to win against Chelsea. They are there for taking. If we have a go at them, we can easily win.

When was that? I don’t remember that at all, we held our own and lost because of a joke of a red card if I remember rightly?

02 Nov 2017 12:39:17
I hear your main message which is about big game mentality. I agree that the tone is set by how you approach the game and that in recent times the balance has been wrong with not enough emphasis on trying to get at the other team.

Using your case in point, I hope Mourinho has learnt from the Liverpool game and he doesn't play so negatively, the main consequence of which was we lost belief and momentum.

The last time we played Madrid I seem to remember we were playing pretty well and it was shaping up to be a decent game until Nani was harshly sent off.

Where was the swash buckling spurs against us last weekend.

02 Nov 2017 13:08:37
Super Cup.

02 Nov 2017 13:25:25
Quick question for everybody would you rather us attack Chelsea and play some pretty, attractive, tiki taka type football and lose or park the bus and win?!

For me I'd rather he parked the bus and we won 1-0 every time. I don't care if we scored with our only shot and only had 30% possession. I can also appreciate the beauty of a well organised, brilliant defensive performance as much as an attacking one.

We need to take these big games in isolation. We need to hang on to City's coat tails for dear life. A 1-0 win going into the international break no matter how it comes will feel much better than a defeat even if we did play like Brazil, or Barcelona or City 😂.

02 Nov 2017 13:49:44
Both danny lol
Btw, Poch getting all the headlines, if Jose had took spurs to OT and played like that he’sd get slaughtered.

02 Nov 2017 16:42:57
Did we lose to that Spurs side?

02 Nov 2017 17:43:47
Yawn I'm bored stiff of hearing how great everyone else is and how terrible we are.

This is the best worst side we've had in years long may our terrible performances continue.

2nd in the league and the bit I can't believe is we are ahead of Tottenham super spurs (having just beaten them) we are ahead of the hyper dynamic attacking force of Liverpool!

The only reason we are behind city is the fact they have been sent directly from asgard to retrieve odins greatest want . the premier league that is how demi-god city have built up the unassailable massive 5 point lead after 10 games.

We may as well all just chuck ourselves under our respective public transport source and be done with it 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭.

02 Nov 2017 18:44:37
It's about limiting beliefs, if you think you are going to struggle then you are going to struggle. Sadly it doesn't work the other way (just because you think you will win doesn't mean you will) .

Mindset is very important and if the team is sent out to stifle and 'nick' a goal then it creates the wrong mind set. Chelsea look very dodgy right now so we should set up to exploit this and nail them.

02 Nov 2017 19:26:55
The way City are playing we will need to win the so called big games, and not just park the bus and hope to counter and nick a 1-0. I'm not saying all out attack, but we need to be positive and start the game as we mean to win.
This season draws against the so called big teams won't win us the league in my opinion.

02 Nov 2017 19:27:26
It's a double edge sword, on one side great time to play Chelsea on the other side a good result against United is just what Chelsea need .

United at home might just be the type of game conte needs to get them back on track .

02 Nov 2017 19:49:46
Dont care how we do it as long as we win.

Winning is the only answwer.

02 Nov 2017 21:35:34
Why does it always have to be good football or results?

02 Nov 2017 22:31:07
Exactly Stevie, how about both? I hope we set up the way we did against Spurs and not set up the way we did against Liverpool. We can beat Chelsea if we take the game to them. Jose didn't like the way the fans reacted to the Liverpool game, he's been moaning ever since, but I think he knows now win, lose or draw it is not how people want to see us play. Go for it Jose, if we lose then so be it. I'm not saying go cavalier, just set out like the Spurs game, not the Liverpool game. Protect a lead, not a draw.

02 Nov 2017 22:59:42
It is embarrasing that some fans even don't remember us playing madrid in super cup.

Parking the bus does not mean winning. How often will that work. We couldn't keep three passes together against liverpool honestly.
But with the talent we have got, if we play against any team to win, then there will always be a good chance that we will win. Why we playing attacking should left us open? It can be properly be planned on how to attack and defend as team.
There is no guauantee that parking the bus against chelsea will give us a win but there is always a good chance if we go toe to toe with them.

03 Nov 2017 03:23:05
It's understandable though Srestha - that Madrid Super Cup game was like the vast majority of our performances, BORING football. I totally agree with your post, we set-up to nick results and to hell with attacking football. That may be fine for some teams, but not my team, or certainly not what I expect from my team. Man Utd are meant to be entertaining, full of passion, "we will out score you", not we will keep you out and try and get one. But as many have said Jose is not that type of manager, he is a grinder. Unfortunately the very well educated managers of today all study the best and know how to counteract them often with far inferior players.

This formula was used by LVG and it's easy to come unstuck, as we learnt against Stoke, Liverpool and Huddersfield - not having the drive and men committed forward in numbers can easily be handled defensively. Then there is always a chance that a mistake can be made at the back and you are down, without the momentum to come back effectively.

Alli missed a sitter seconds before Martial scored the other day, it was fine margins that won that game, it could have been 1-0 the other way - against top opposition you expect that things are tight and moments win games, but I don't like sailing so close to the wind. Just like Can missed an absolute sitter for Liverpool against us. I appreciate we miss chances, but either games could easily have been defeats and the picture would be very different.

03 Nov 2017 07:21:32
Chelsea lack pace, if ever there was a game to use both Rashfird and Merial then this is it. Chests out, heads up, stare them in the eyes. There is an undercurrent of discontent at Chelsea that we need to take advantage of.

03 Nov 2017 08:48:05
No way will he play both Martial and Rashford from the start, I would do it AJH - most Utd fans would do it, but Jose will set us up to stifle as always, Young will probably play in one of their positions.

Chelsea are very beatable at the minute, I'd love us to unshackle the side.

If United was to win the treble this year people would still say it’s not good enough. Baffles me, it really does. The way united fans talk it’s like we’ve always played the Fergie way or Busy way, 70’s and 80’s must’ve been expunged in our minds cz we’ve not always played this perceived ‘our way’ and won things, it’s happened in spells and I’m sure will come again, maybe not under Jose but what more do people want, we are winning, scoring, not conceding and collecting trophies. Who else if not Jose then, Poch? Proved he can’t win anything vs the big boys, infact played in a way Jose would’ve been shot for at OT, get behind Jose and the team or we will hound him out and then we will be saying when we are 6th again I wish Jose was still here and we was competing, believe me things can be and have been worse x.

03 Nov 2017 10:54:36
WRD u are absolutely right mate. There is no pleasing some people and for some of our fans now poch is the new pep - the shiny new manager that will take utd back to the glory days. bull

Winning, winning trophies and clean sheets - im. happy with that too.

Werent people (including me) saying that playing the top 6 is where we will see our wrth? Well we beat the mighty spurs AND they didn't score - they must be wrld beaters tho eh?

03 Nov 2017 11:06:42
It's unbelievable. Now we are judging ourselves against nearly having lost games we won and drew. The world has gone mad.

The media and other clubs fans are all shifting uneasily now that a sleeping giant has woken up and got serious. Anyone doubting we will get ECL qualification? Hopefully not.

Cute have had the best ever start to the league by any team. Tip your cap, say well done and roll up your sleeves and try to catch them. We haven't played them yet btw. They also haven't gone through a winter in this blistering style the last 2 years.

Support your club.

03 Nov 2017 11:25:34
Who was the kiss on the end for wrd.

03 Nov 2017 11:28:27
Srestha,

I remember the super cup but I just assumed you wouldn’t be comparing a big champions league game to a pre season friendly.

03 Nov 2017 11:29:09
Man city are 5 points clear of us after the best start to a season in EPL history .
We would be top this time last year . Ifs and buts I know .
We have also won 4 CL games in a row.
Scored a lot not conceded many .
And had to deal with injuries to key players .
Won 11 drew 2 lost 1
Scored 37 conceded 6 .

Is it that bad?

03 Nov 2017 12:13:45
Ha my kiss is to all you wonderful United’s fans even tho we’ve differing opinions 😂.

03 Nov 2017 13:18:45
We've played two so called big teams in the league so far and have 4 points without conceding. If we keep that record up over the season I'd be happy.

03 Nov 2017 13:30:24
That was what I was trying to post jred. Agree completely, in other years we are on championship form, City are outstanding, who knows if they can keep this up - Let's at least wait until December before we award them the title!

03 Nov 2017 13:33:11
Perspective Jred, exactly. Goals, not many conceded, quite a few clean sheets. I think we are doing really well considering we are down a few starters.
