I had written a post long back that we might never see the best of Mkhitaryan due to our playing style. This is not a dig at Mourinho. He wants his players working in a particular manner but it has to be his ( his scouts) incompetence that they thought Mkhitaryan would adapt to it. Players like him and Martial are not being given enough freedom and they in turn aren't adapting to his style.
I'm sure if Sterling and Jesus were playing for us they wouldn't be anywhere near the top scorers. Same goes for Martial and Mkhitaryan, if they were somewhere else they would be more dominant. What I think the next step should be is for the board to figure out how long they want Mourinho at the helm. If they want him for the next 4-5 years then it be best to move these guys on (and a few others) and build a team that mourinho wants. If they already have someone in mind to replace him in a couple of season then maybe loan Martial, Shaw out next season if the next manager wants them when he comes.

You know Martial scored the winner yesterday? I think he’s fine just where he is.

Sounds like an excuse for Miki to me, he’s been given a lot of freedom, yesterday we played with 3 centre backs and 2 defensive midfielders, how much more freedom does he need?

Absolute tosh! They each need to knuckle down and play better.

AM has done this and his influence and work rate has increased. He is currently better impacting from the bench than from the start, but he is pushing Rash all the time.

Miki is going through a bad patch, the number of times he is losing the ball is simply unacceptable for the play maker in your team. He is not losing it going for high risk high reward passes, he is doing the simple stuff very badly. I think Pogba and Mata back in the team should help him, but he also needs to put some extra work in on the training ground.

Sorry sailor disagree with everything you have said. Martial has stepped up considerably this year and is showing glimpses of the huge potential he has. I agreed with neville’s assessment yesterday that he is only playing at 85%. But why get rid when it will cost us £60+ to replace him for someone that may take just as long to settle and adapt to the team and the league? Let’s say for instance we get lemar, whose to say he will not perform more inconsistently than martial. Personally I am quite pleased with the impact and drive Tony has shied this season and he looks settled and ready to really push on because I believe he is up there with Mbappe and ousmane Dembele in terms of ‘potential’.

Onto miki, again very talented by I agree with dodgey that he gives that ball away far too much. Looks like he is struggling to do the basics properly and perhaps needs a spell on the bench. He is still our most creative player when fully firing so I think he will come out this rut and be ok. Throughout a season players drift in and out of form and I think we are experiencing this with several players such as lukaku, miki, mata. But I think once we get pogba back it will be a huge boost. Add Zlatan and Rojo to the mix with Fellaini as well and we should be firing on all cyclinders over a busy Xmas period where the title can be one and lost in the space of 3 games.

Form or lack of it may be temporary but Mikki is a class act.

I think you guys didn't get my point. I was saying that for me Martial is on level with Sterling and Jesus currently but still our style of play doesn't allow him to do what he's actually good at. That's why I made the point that Jesus and sterling in our team and style wouldn't be anywhere near top scorers. And I don't see him being utilized in the correct way under Jose. If we have long term plans for Jose then it just might be better for United as well as martial to move on.

I got your point Sailor. Just disagree. Miki is not playing well. Not because of Jose, not because of Pogba, he is just not performing.

If he was getting no touches on the ball, and was isolated then I could see your point of view. Saturday he had the ball to feet with runners around him and gave it away with lame passes. It is poor form and he needs to address it.

JM is pushing both Martial and Rash by having them compete for one spot in the team. It is working well in my opinion, they are both pushing each other. Martial is doing the work and progressing all the time.

I think its as simple as Mkhitaryan maybe isn't as good as we hoped. He struggled for much of last season and had a good patch of form in the latter stages of the Europa league, in the EPL he had flashes of brilliance but for the most part was very inconsistent. The difference is when Pogba and co were fit they stepped up to the mark more often than not. Now key players are out we are looking to players like Mkhitaryan to step up and he isn't. I don't think his form has dropped off, we are just noticing his inconsitencies more now.

I like him and I want him to be a success, I was over the moon when we signed him. But I just don't think he will be the player we were hoping he would be for us. He's been at the club for 15 months now, at his age he should be a key player by now.

Dodgy, he was atrocious against Burnley, when he gets to start he has been disappointing. It's very frustrating as he has huge talent but I'm still seeing it this year. There is the odd flash here and there but nothing gconsistent or sustained. I think it's in his head.

Mhkitaryan has basically been given a “hall pass” by Mourinho.
If my wife did that to me, I’d be all over it ;) .

Maybe drop Mhkitaryan and play Mata. Problem solved. I think ED002 once mentioned that Mhkitaryan sulked from time to time or something to that effect.

Something is obviously not right with Mikki at the moment but it may just be a case of him needing a long run so he gains confidence.
