3 cbs today and lindelof doesn't even make the bench .
If we hadn't of bought him would he like perisic be just what we need?

Got a lot to do to be a cb in a Jose team.

Agree1 Disagree0

Well Jose prioritised four positions this summer. Wasn't going to get 6/ 7 that he really wanted, has to be realistic as we aren't financed by oligarchs or Sheikhs. He ended up with three from four. He'll finish his build this summer hopefully. Not sure about Perisic as I had not seen much of him, however Jose wanted him badly. Gone now so Jose must move on. Lindelof looks like he'll take a year to adapt. Hopefully lol.

28 Oct 2017 12:59:28
So if Jose buys another 3 or 4 this summer we won't buy any more players because he will have all the players he wants?

United will buy 3 or 4 players every summer.

28 Oct 2017 13:37:29
Teams always evolve. We'll need to replace Carrick, Fellaini, Shaw and zlatan for sure. Perhaps Darmian, Valencia and young. Plenty of spaces to fill. i'd be happy with 4 and the rest from academy.

28 Oct 2017 14:26:14
You always buy players, but Jose has looked at central midfielders, right backs, left backs and forwards. That's not including Lindelof, Matic, Perisic and Lukaku.

Clearly we cannot get all seven in one summer, we don't have the finances. But Jose hasn't finished building his team yet no.

28 Oct 2017 14:39:25
United wanted Rose and Fabinho in the summer. Wanted Perisic and was looking at another midfielder, we still are. But cannot get all of them in one summer. Anyway, I'm sure Jose will be a happier man this time next year.

You never stop building.

28 Oct 2017 15:15:26
What's your point? Jred it's simple, there are players here being used who Jose wants replaced. But we don't have the money to replace everyone in one go. Hopefully this time next year Jose will be happy with his starting line-up. The team he wants, the team he's built.

You always rotate old with new and sometimes players leave and need replacing etc, so you always look to improve a squad. But this team isn't close to being build how Jose wants it yet. Expect new fullbacks, a forward and another midfielder this summer.

28 Oct 2017 15:34:39
Jose is using two wingers in their 30's as fullbacks. He doesn't like Darmian, Shaw is likely to go. We tried to sign or spoken to Aurier, Semedo, Fabinho, Rose etc.

Fellaini was blocked from leaving because we didn't have sufficient cover. Perreira left too when Jose asked him to stay. We are looking at midfielders.

Perisic needs no explaining. Jose made it clear about him and Ed Woodward ballsed that up. Jose is far from happy with what he has. But Rome wasn't built in a day.

{Ed004's Note - By the start of next season I reckon we will see another 5/6 new faces in the main team. Most likely a rb, lb, cm, winger and potentially another cb if Lindelof doesn’t settle or full back if we move on a few}

28 Oct 2017 15:55:42
But just to be clear, Jose is never going to say he's not happy with what he has. Obviously!

Syd
Is Jose far from happy with what he has or are you?
Jose has said time and again he is happy with his squad.
And the squad is looking good and playing well.

Valencia is a great example people want a shinny new toy at rb but Jose is quite clearly a big fan of our captain who imo was the best rb in the league last season and has been this season .
Lindelof is a good example of not every signing is amazing .

We will like any other team buy players this summer that just footy but this is Jose team now this transition talk or Jose need a to buy another 4 or 5 before it's his team is rubbish .

28 Oct 2017 17:17:54
I like Valencia, but are you aware he has to have an ice-pack on a swollen knee after every game? Are you also aware he is nearing the end of his career and we have no other attacking fullback replacement for him? No one to rotate with him so Jose can keep playing the way he wants the team to play.

And the answer to your question is 'JOSE' wants these players, hence the strong interest in them confirmed by many sources including Jose and Ed002. Also common sense. Are you suggesting we aren't looking at fullbacks? That would be comical considering we have been heavily linked to several fullbacks for two summers.

The club are targeting fullbacks and a central midfielder. FACT.

Jose wanted Perisic. FACT.

Therefore Jose wants to strengthen the first team. I mean this is really simple stuff to most people. The club are still in transition. You'd need to be a complete tool to not know that.

28 Oct 2017 17:31:40
Jose was appointed as United manager only last year, you seriously don't think we are still in transition? Come on, lol.

28 Oct 2017 15:46:13
004 - I get the feeling Jose wants to use three at the back so I think we may see Smalling replaced. Ed002 says we are still in for a CB. I don't know if three CB's is the way forward, but we looked okay today. We'll see what he does.

It's difficult to get players in, but I think we will finish our build by the end of the summer. Young and Valencia can play that position well, but it's a position you need two for to rotate. Lot's of hard work up and down the field.

Fabinho/ Valencia and Rose/ Young not too shabby.

{Ed004's Note - I think we would need someone better going forward than Fabinho. Maybe Meunier who keeps talking about us and it looks like we want two left backs according to Ed2 comments yesterday I think. We have looked good playing 3 at the back this season. I think someone like Van Dijk would be perfect to play alongside Bailly and Rojo with Smalling and Jones cover for each}

28 Oct 2017 17:51:49
004 - There's talk that Fabinho would have been used in two positions (RB and CM) . I'd use Valencia as I like him, someone like Perisic would have been the answer to Valencia's main flaw, crossing in. Wouldn't be surprised if we signed two left-backs, but Young has done well. Clearly Jose wants fullbacks and Ed002 says another CB. The Valencia manager has confirmed we want to sign Soler a midfielder of theirs. But says fee is the sticking point due to the clause (£75m) .

This time next year we will look stronger all over the squad. We have a strong squad now, but not Jose strong.

{Ed004's Note - I like Valencia but think he needs competition/cover. He’s I think 33 now? So Valencia/Meunier (someone similar) and Rose/Aaron Martin (or shaw if he steps up) would be very strong options. Think Van Dijk would be a top signing. Would excel in the role David Luiz plays. I’ve seen we are interested in Soler but would love Milinkovic-Savic and think he’d be a perfect fellaini replacement. Think Ozil could be an option for January as well}

28 Oct 2017 18:05:55
The Ozil thing is a strange one, I can see Jose wanting him and wanting him January, however there's talk about Ozil being told to see out his contract and then we will take him, that sounds like an Ed Woodward move. So unsure what will come of this, but I like Ozil. He would slot into Miki's spot right now, be good competition for him. He's also experienced and versatile.

28 Oct 2017 18:10:14
You are aware Tony has said he is fine .
But we could maybe do with s bit if cover
Lb is a issues
Jose said in the summer he would like 4 but would be happy with 3.
And that is a fact we signed 3 players and prob missed out on griezmann.

No need for excuses this is Jose squad a very good squad .
United and every other team will be linked with players.
All teams will buy players this summer but Jose has no excuses and to be fair isn't making any .
All this Jose needs x y and z is rubbish he has been fully back by the club.

{Ed004's Note - I think we will have to wait until next summer to sort out our fullback positions and we have adequate cover to cope until then. However, Ozil/Griezmann in January would massively improve us. If we played a back 5 having Matic, Pogba, Ozil/Griezmann, Lukaku and Rashford/Martial would compete with any in the league}

28 Oct 2017 18:13:01
By the way we won't finish our rebuild this summer we will continue to buy and add players every year .

Plus any new manager will want his own players you are constantly building a team.

28 Oct 2017 19:28:26
Jose was always going to take a couple of years to get the team/ squad to where he wants it. IE significant expenditure.

United are not going to spend £150m-£200m every season. Next summer we will spend big and then it will go back to normal.

We simply cannot afford to spend like that every year, so next summer expect Jose's team to be very close to what he wants.

Transition complete and then it will be normal business every summer, replacing old players, players leaving etc.

They've trusted Jose with the rebuild and I think it will pay off, but I do expect him to leave within a few years.

Was never my choice to take over from Sir Alex, but definitely needed him or another big character to get us out of the sh! t.

Anyway, good evening to you all, and great result today for us. Hope we can take the game to Chelsea too as Jose will want Conte Scalp.
