I haven't followed the Serie A for last few seasons but since Perisic was linked with us, I decided to watch Inter this season. Just a couple of matches in and he looks like a very good player. Nearly everything in the Inter attack goes through him. He creates a lot of chances for others. Crossing is superb and his positioning for crosses from the other players are also quite good, always a goal threat.
Just 1 problem that he plays in a position where we already have Martial and Rashford. Don't know if he was always this good, maybe being linked to United and Mourinho has raised his confidence a lot.

He's a good player in my opinion. Loads of energy, very direct, versatile, can score and assist. I agree, we have Martial and Rashford, who both look up for it this season and I think we need a right back more. I reckon United have probably moved on now. But he is a Premiership type player. He fell out with Klopp at Dortmund. Klopp said he was immature.

Sailor. I've watched a lot of Italian football and Perisic has always been the standout performer in their team. He's an excellent player.
I disagree about martial and Rashford in as far as neither of them are wingers. They don't stretch the attack and they certainly don't want to go to the byline to cross the ball. Neither has good crossing ability. And both have a tendency to come inside as they're not natural wingers.
United lack a natural winger and that's why it is imperative that we buy one in this window. Other choices are Bale (overrated and injury prone), Robben (superb and I would love him in our team) . Lemar (excellent and young and bags of potential) . Sanchez (United don't seem to have interest in him at all) .
So hope we get a winger. And a left back before the window closes.

What he would have brought us is a wide player that would stay wide, look to get past the outside of the full back and deliver a cross. Most wide players from Messi downwards want to cut in and attack the penalty area.
As we have a team of many towers having someone who could deliver a telling cross would have given us an alternative to the wide player that rarely looks to cross.

Agree with all of the above posts. He is a very good player only a few on here were saying he was not good enough. The issue most people had i think is that they want martial or rash to make that their position. But perisic gives a completely different option to those 2 as he plays differently. I see the merit in having him here but that ship has sailed it looks like and to be fair rash and martial are delivering.
When i look at the team i see 3 glaring positions that we are short on top quality and also very short on top quailty cover. Both full back positions and a winger. Not going to get them all done but i'm hoping that at least one of those areas is addressed before this window closes. So far we have only used 12 starting players.

I agree that he would give us something new but it's just that many would want Rashford and martial to succeed in that position. I haven't seen him play on the right side but if he can then he would have been a great addition.

Would of given us a different option but no better than what we have imo, not surprised we never bought him to be honest .
Mata played well last season and has continued to this season started every game ( unlike martial and rash ) and plays an important part . His movement creating space is a great fit with lukaku and miki .
Rash and martial will continue to improve with the game time they are getting that's how you develop a player .
3 games 10 goals 6 different scorers .
Jose doesn't tend to change a winning team .
Squad looks good team playing well proving a few wrong and making a few look a bit silly .

jred - I think the not signing Perisic has everything to do with us not agreeing a fee. Jose wanted him and this is one Ed Woodward really did mess up as we could have signed him for a lot less than Inter are asking for him now, if we signing him in June (or in principle rather) .
But I do agree that it may well be a blessing in disguise. Perisic isn't young and may fade after a season or two much like Van Persie. Also I am with you, I like Martial this season, he looks determined and Rash needs to play also. Perhaps it'll be better to wait 12 months and see if Griezmann can be convinced to join.

If we had of really wanted him we could of bought him, would of been a different option but not important imo and I'm not surprised we never went that extra mile to get him .
He would of been another option nothing more imo .

He would of give us an other option but Jose has set the attack to play like it is and its working.

I had a feeling Jose wanted to play with three at the back. Hence the Garay interest. Also our interest in fullbacks who can get forward.
I guess we'll keep Smalling and Young now for another season. Young can play as wing-back either side and Smalling instead of Garay?

Not sure we need garay or any cb after signing lindelof.
3 at the May be an option for some games but I still think 4231 will be the formation of choice.

We've been actively looking at fullbacks for months. Rose, Aurier, Semedo, Sessegnon to name a few. I'm sure there are more. Jose never mentions a player by name and you shouldn't take everything he says as gospel, he's very clever at using the media. The fact we have signed Lindelof hasn't stopped us looking at CB's too. Garay and a Spanish guy Ed002 said.
Also looked at left forwards too according to the editor. So it may not be what we want to hear being fans of Martial and Rash, however it hasn't stopped it being true that Jose wants one. We'll play 4231 mainly I'm sure, 433 sometimes, depending on opponent. We won't buy anyone for the sake of it. Only someone who adds something to our team. So chances are our business is done.

Jose said what was going to happen in the Jan window and it did, said before the summer window what he wanted and we have again done it . always a lot of rumours around United tho and we will always be looking and evaluating players .
Said last week he wanted a player that would give him a different option which perisic can, played as a wing back many times for Croatia.
But I don't see us playing 3 at the back that often so prob wasn't a necessity more a nice to have .
Said he had wingers, attack wise I think we are set up the way he wants, 10 goals in 3 games.

We wanted Aurier but he chose Spurs. That's not a rumour, it's confirmed. Apparently he was sold on the Spurs project and chose them after agreeing terms with us. Not sure he would have been good for the dressing room anyway like you said.
I think what it is, Valencia is 32 and has an ice-pack strapped to his knee after every game. We need an attacking option as cover and to replace him long term. Darmian is not great going forward and certainly not in Jose's long term plans. On the left Shaw is injury prone and hasn't kicked on. Blind is too slow at getting forward. We certainly need cover there too. It's not rumours we have been looking at fullbacks. We have been looking at fullbacks who can get forward and add width. We'll probably get desperate and use Young. It's very clear our weakest areas are our fullbacks. I'm hoping Shaw can kick on as I think he can be a very good player, but it hasn't stopped Jose looking at other left backs this summer.
That being said is there any available better than Valencia or Shaw? I'm not convinced. So we probably won't sign one until next summer now. But we'll see. It's clear Darmian and Young have been taken off the transfer list for now.

Retorts today syd that aurier wants utd but spurs have offered more which is possibly why the deal has not been done. He wants united his club want to sell to spurs the higher bidder.

Stevie wonder can see that we are weak in the full back dept but its not easy to het the players we want. If valencia gets injured lindelof can play right back I've only seen him play there a couple of times for sweden. Looking forward to his debut against Basel it will be great to have him up to speed because i see jones has an injury already which is a shame but rather predictable let's hope its something he can recover from over the intl break.

Also wouldn't Lindelof be a defensive fullback? I think we need an attacking one personally, but it's good he can cover there.

Not sure how good he is going forward syd intl footie never a great barometer. interesting jose says he will start v basle i think he is giving him time to adjust to the intensity of training for the epl good management imo. I saw him live pre season here in dublin and he played in a back 3 and was very comfortable on the ball snd looked good but it was not a game played at a high oace. He was scouted for 18 months jose knows how to pick a defender i have high hopes.
