I really hope whatever is going on in Martial's head does not test mourinho's patience. Selling or even loaning Martial will be a big mistake. Mourinho got rid of de bruyne and Lukaku while at Chelsea, so he is very stubborn and if a player does not follow his orders to the letter, then he's out.
Martial is only 21 and has bags of potential. I'm just hoping that mourinho has more than one way of managing him. He needs to get to the root of the problem and make Martial see sense and feel happy.
The player needs to see sense and be made to change his attitude.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look this way, and this looks like an almighty cockup waiting to happen.

What exactly is he suppose do schmid, he scored a goal and assisted in a 10 minute cameo, if you are complaining about his lack of celebration or smile, just google martial memes, you will find he has the same expression whether happy or sad, also i have seen mourinho more grumpy than martial looked a lot of times, may be mourinho also needs to "change his attitude".

CSM, you have a point but Martial did look distracted for most of last year, perhaps his off field problems impacted him. He was great for his cameo on Sunday, he needs to do that more regularly and I'm sure he will get picked.

Cantona never smiled much when on the pitch, maybe he needed to change his attitude. Roy Keane too.
Martial doesn't smile much while on the pitch, that doesn't mean he isn't happy or that he has a bad attitude. He didn't smile on his first season not his second I doubt he will in his third.

Unless a player smiles for the full 90, they should be sold. I'd suggest getting dentures that force you to smile.

AJH i have never said he wasn't poor last season, but wanting players to change their attitudes because they don't smile, is taking it too far, if they score and assist consistently, that is good enough for me.

i think Mouriniho needs to look at the way he is managing him, no two players are alike, some need a boot up the arse and some need n arm around the shoulder. i think Martial is of the latter and needs to feel a bit of love.
only my opinion of course i don't claim to know either personally.

I LOVE players who don't smile. They're working. If I was a manager my players would score then calmly walk back to their half and get ready to do it again. No stupid celebrations, a handshake for an overhead kick is maybe allowed. On an unrelated note, I don't have many friends.

i think Ed002 said Mourinho had nothing to do with Lukaku leaving and looking at how Conte reacted to Matic being sold, i don't think he had as much a say in transfer dealings as he now does at united. Felliani being a point in case.
Perhaps, as was pointed out in the sharkopod, the possibility of Ibrahimovic returning is having an impact on Martial. He was congratulated by the whole team on Sunday, there was a feel of support from it. Personally I'd prefer an in-form, confident Martial to Ibrahimovic's youth stifling but goal heavy involvement, i think from the reaction of the players on Sunday, they'd prefer that too.

Young lad who struggled in his second season.
Loads of talent looked good preseason and in his cameo on Sunday.
If the team plays well he will improve as well imo, people are very quick to get on some players backs.

CSM, if you read the post properly, I never mentioned Martial smiling or not, who cares if he smiles or not? But his body language does not look right. And also, if you read the post, I am on Martial's side, I don't want Mourinho to lose patience with him for whatever reason and sell him, as this will be a real mistake.
PS. look at the Cantona goal celebrations and you can see how he enjoyed scoring. Maybe Martial is not built that way, but he did celebrate his goals when he first came, so something is not quite right.

schmid you want his attitude changed and just below you posted he looked miserable and needs to change his attitude, other than the fact that he did not celebrate his goal there was nothing about his attitude that anyone could pinpoint to, hence my comment.

Mourinho trusts Martial.
He was brought on ahead of Herrera.
He could have brought Herrera and seen the game out but no he brought Martial on to give the game a go.
All Martial needs to show is that he's better than Rashford, Mata and Mkhi.
I really don't mind if our front 4 includes Lukaku, Martial, Rashford, Mata and Mkhi
Then there's Fellaini, Pereira and Herrera who all can play further up if required. Ideally a winger would be nice to the depth of the squad but its still good enough.
