I see many people getting caught up in the Bale hype. I wonder how much of it is just wanting a "big name" statement signing.

I believe Bale to be one of the top ten best players in the world when fit and on form. But he hasn't been at that level for two years now bar the odd game. Will he be able to stay fit for long enough to build up a head of steam and return to that level consistently? It appears Real Madrid don't think so, if they did they wouldn't entertain selling one of Perez's favourites.

So all things considered let's play a little game. Both Greizmann and Bale are available this summer, both would cost 85m sterling, both would command wages of 220k per week and both would be signed on a 5 year deal.

So who would you go for Greizmann or Bale?

Agree5 Disagree2

I'd rather Griezmann all day long.

Bale, when on form is Top 5 for sure but his last 2 seasons have been injury filled and I'm not sure signing him is the best thing for us. Unless he is 100% fit.

But Griezmann for me is also top notch and I'd rather him to Bale in all honesty.

Exactly my point the other day Shappy. We had a poll last week and Greizmann won by a landslide.

Like I said yesterday, it all comes down to availability. Bale is more obtainable. Can we afford a City, Chelsea or Spurs to take Bale and we get stuffed by Barcelona on Greizmann later down the line? I think if he's available, we got to have a punt.

08 Aug 2017 10:06:33
Not even a blink from me greizmann.

08 Aug 2017 10:19:16
I'd give Griezmann the edge based on last season and that over 5 years He would likely give you more than Bale. He was outstanding last season where as Bale was stop start due to injuries and form issues. Griezmann over the 5 years isn't going to have to change his game as much as Bale may have to as he is based more around ability than athleticism. Bale is where he is because of his athleticism. Even though he is an exceptional player, if he wasnt as quick and strong would he be where he is solely on ability? Not for me. Where as Griezmann is where he is because of his ability more than his athleticism even though he is still very quick and energetic.

The one thing though with Bale I can't get away from is that in his last season at Spurs it was probably one of the best 4 or 5 individual seasons any player has had since the PL began. I don't think that Griezmann could be as dominant as Bale was that year, mind you the question is whether Bale could ever get to that level again?

In all honesty if we got either of them our side is a hell of a lot better.

08 Aug 2017 10:41:24
But James what if the owners are only prepared to sign one of them? What if we get Bale and therefore don't move for Greizmann then Bale continues his form of the last two seasons and is a crock for the next 4-5 years with us?

08 Aug 2017 10:57:28
We've had our fair share of injury prone players. Bale would join that list. He could be another Hargreaves. However that is doubtful.
Griezmann all day everyday, younger and better. Would cost the same.

08 Aug 2017 11:02:18
Based on the OP question, it would be Grease-man for me.

But realistically if Bale is available this summer and Grease-man isn't then absolutely sign Bale because we may not even get a sniff of AG next year.

08 Aug 2017 11:03:55
Same as I've said all along, Griezmann all day long. Bale just isn't on the pitch enough to command the £80m+ price plus huge wages. I posted his minutes played the other day and from 3 years ago where he played most games, 2 years ago he had a big decline in time on the field and last season was even worse. Is that going to improve and especially in a more physically demanding league? Not for me. People are still thinking of the fit Bale that left Spurs having ripped the league up. What we have now is an older, more injury hit player who doesn't play enough.

Personally I'd take the the older Ronaldo over him. All out for Griezmann next summer if it is still even a possibility would be my choice though. Either way I wouldn't touch Bale as he wouldn't be on the pitch enough to make it worthwhile.

Spot on as usual shappy griezmann without a moments hesitation.

08 Aug 2017 11:11:39
Bale . He is devastating at times and arguably in the top 6 on best form .
Also I want that big name statement. We should have some of the biggest names in world football at our club shouldn't we?
I want us to sign Griezmann next year too .

08 Aug 2017 12:14:12
Is not just an argument why we shouldn't sign bale?

Didn't here any of this when we where going to sign perisic .

Perisic or griezmann?

Should we sign any attacking players or only ones better than griezmann?

08 Aug 2017 12:27:06
I don't get where this thing comes from that Bale has been rubbish for 2 years, a year ago he pretty much single handedly got Wales into the semi finals of the Euro's.

I would rather have Griezmann but he isn't available so that means nothing.

08 Aug 2017 12:34:04
Great point jred, the Bale bashing is intense. I also agree with GDS, it is only the last year he has missed a lot of games. The issue is whether is it is indicative of a general decline or specific issues than have been resolved, we have to trust Jose and the medics.

08 Aug 2017 13:01:53
Gds
He missed 15 games out of 60 odd that year
4 games the year before and 4 games the year before that .
In his last year at spurs he missed 6 games .
The year before 1 .

08 Aug 2017 13:56:42
Who said he was rubbish the last 2 years?

He's missed an awful lot of games through injury though and that would be a worry for any team planning to buy him.

08 Aug 2017 13:59:38
Bales minutes for Real again.

16/ 17 - 1937 mins - equivalent of 22 x 90
15/ 16 - 2382 mins - equivalent of 26.5 x 90
14/ 15 - 4038 mins - equivalent of 45 x 90
13/ 14 - 3327 mins - equivalent of 37 x 90
12/ 13 - 3891 mins - equivalent of 43 x 90

How can anyone seriously say we should sign a guy for ridiculous money that has had the past two seasons injury wise that Bale has had? That money is a big chunk when FFP is taken into consideration along with the Pogbas and Lukakus in the squad. Can we afford to waste that on a guy who has been spending more time with the physio than the first team the past two seasons?

Jred if it was a choice of Griezmann or Perisic then Griezmann of course. But either over Bale as long as Perisic was at the right money. I would spend the money needed for Bale on Griezmann though.

08 Aug 2017 14:53:40
By the way I'm not sure what the fuss is.
He had a bad injury last year apart from that he has played a decent amount.

08 Aug 2017 14:54:04
Brendan and Shaps,

If its one or the other, then it has to be Greizmann. That is a no brainer. But who says it has to be one or the other? Why not go 2 up top with Rom and Greizmann and have Bale as a #10? Two strikers gives Rashford and Martial more opportunities in the preferred positions. Miki can rotate with bale and have a solid middle of Pogba, Matic and Herrera. Like a 4-3-1-2 or go for the diamond. Once again that comes down to full backs giving us the width we would need.

I would try and get some sort of agreement with Atheltico in early though. I still think Barcelona are ready to swoop for him. Get the agreement in early and then go get Bale. Bring back the attacking football we all crave.

08 Aug 2017 14:52:00
Brendan
How many games was he rested?
Subbed because Madrid where 10 up?
Banned?
I took the eds advice checked how many games he actually missed .

Remember us fans don't have a say it's the club that want him they will no the score on his injuries better than me or you.

08 Aug 2017 15:39:53
Jred. Madrid want to sell him.

That speaks volumes. They don't sell someone at the peak of their powers.

08 Aug 2017 16:52:04
It's a no from me. The Bale that left Tottenham and hadn't been injured the past two seasons hell yeah but not this older more injured Bale. Not worth the expense.

08 Aug 2017 17:19:52
Neither Bale nor Griez, I'd sign sanchez.

08 Aug 2017 17:46:42
Angle
They sold sneijder, robben ozil to the club is a circus and will always be open to a sale if it means buying a new shinny toy.
