The DM role I think is so important to fill this summer, not sure Veratti is exactly what we need in that respect, not sure what type of player he is as never seen him play but by all accounts a good player.

It depends on what way you prefer your team to set up jred.
My choice would always be to have a play making no6. Veratti is ideal for that imo kroos probably also but doesn't play there for his club althougg has played there for germany. that's the route i prefer. They are forward thinking attack minded players that play deep. Can look after themselves in a tackle and are brilliant in possession.
However jose has traditionally gone with the destructive defence minded no 6 that breaks up play and is always in support from behind the ball. Tactically astute decent and tidy in possesion and is very diciplined in his role.
So looking at it from my point of view i'd love to see a veratti kroos type no 6 and for jose to swith to that.
But looking at what jose does and has done then matic is exactly what we need if it was that role jose wants to fill.

Veratti can do everything matic can and then some. ones a great cm the others ok .
Kante could do the matic role in his sleep but he has far more to his game than matic .
Problem is kante didn't want united and I'm not sure veratti wants England .
If Carrick was a few years younger I'm not sure Jose would be buying matic to replace him, Carrick is a better footballer imo.

Like I say not seen Veratti play but didn't think he was a someone to break up play and pass it on type like Kante and Matic.

If carrick was younger its probably safe to say jose wouldn't be replacing him. 4 cl finals in 4 years in his prime. carrick was a class player. Very underrated by many.

And that's sort of my point, Carrick isn't a destructive cm but if he was a few years younger I don't think Jose would be replacing him with a destructive cm .
Alonso played the role very well under Jose at Madrid.
Jose may want matic I'm not sure it's because he doesn't want an Alonso or verrati .

Hi all,
I'd prefer Matic over Verrati. I've only ever seen Verrati play in the CL and Ligue 1 and for me he gets away with a hell of a lot thanks to the energy, composure of those around him. Plus, aside from the first leg of the CL vs Barcelona this season I've not seen much in him. The least said about the second leg the better. Matic doesn't seem to get the respect he deserves, he is a very good player and has that vital PL experience which is what we will need next year. Apologies for disagreeing with the majority again! For me Verrati is just another risk and we need some stability in our midfield to ensure the likes of Pogba really kick on next year.

I don't see it as either/ or. If there is the option of signing both Matic and Verratti then we should.
