Interesting how Jose used Periera last night as a deep lying CM getting the ball off of the defence and starting up attacks. He certainly has the range of passing to do the role just whether he can get a good defence part of his game. His positional sense and game understanding certainly looked ok. Hope the boy gets a chance this season.

I personally like that type of player in that position.

I agree jred. People will no doubt be very against it because they want a powerful CDM but Carrick should have shown people that you don't need a "destroyer" but a football brain and a range of passing is so effective.

He was used in that role last season during his loan. Not all matches but in the second half of the season if I remember correctly.

It's the same position Jose played him last year in preseason against Wigan. So maybe that is where Jose feels he is best suited.
He is an interesting talent in that his skillset allows him to play several positions while his talent allows him to play well in those.
If he can up his work rate and defensive contribution then he could have a break out year this season.

Thought he looked decent in that role last night, and like every other Utd youngster, I hope he makes it with us. I noticed he'd bulked up a little while he was away, which will help him if he's been earmarked for that particular role. His relatively slight weight had been my only previous concern about him. I know it was a poor LA team, but on the flip side, it was only our first start.
