Shocked and stunned. We were so close. What more depressing news to wake up to than James Rodriguez has snubbed us in favour of a reunion with Ancelotti at Bayern Munich? I am as baffled by it as is Robbie Fowler, apparently, at Lukaku's decision to sign for us.
More disturbing is the general lack of unfounded rumours doing the rounds compared to the last few seasons. There's a relative lack of silliness and new names being bandied around by alt-news outlets reporting other alt-news outlet's made up stories as actual news. If that is, in fact, the case, do you think there's any link between this conjecture and the fact that Ed002 is still talking to us?

I'm not bothered one bit at that, we need to build a team and get the right pieces to fit the jigsaw, quality player don't get me wrong but another 10 just is not necessary.

The only reasons James has been touted as a potential purchase - in my opinion - is because RM wants to get rid of him, and over the last few seasons we tend to have been the repository for some overpriced misfits. James is rather like the Macarena, a one hit wonder. I find it hard to believe Mourinho would be the slightest bit interested in him. He wants players on whom he can rely week in week out, and can withstand the incredible physical stress of the EPL along with participation in 3 other tournaments.

I assume that Real did not get anyone getting close to there valuation for him. Bayern will be paying a decent loan fee I am sure but nowhere near what a sale would be for Real. Gets him off the wage bill at least.
For what it is worth I don't think he is a Jose type player. Was surprised we were linked.
It does open back up the whole loan debate and whether it is really intended for players like this.

I have consistently ignored any 'link' to him the whole time, never expected us to go near him, he is not a Jose player and I am glad about that.

Just wondering what this means for the future of Thomas Muller who is getting less and less playing time as it is, papers will start to add 2 and 2 and he'll shortly be linked with us. I'm sure he was mentioned in the sharkpod as a wildcard, would anyone want Muller and do you think he is attainable?

Muller played over 40 games last season. He probably isn't too happy that his role is less attacking, but hardly playing less and less.

Dobeg, the first link on Bleacher Report is 'could United get a shot at Muller now that James has signed' Good shout mate. It won't happen though. Ze Germans wouldn't want to sell him to us after our apparent poor treatment of Schweinsteiger.

Utd weren't snubbed, stop reading and believing some of the BS that rival fans post on forums and online newspapers. Rodriguez is an ok player that enjoyed an ok World cup sometime ago and has since proved to be the type of player that if your club misses out on his services then you should lose no sleep over it, CTFO.

Thank you GDS 2. Indeed I was. I am shocked and stunned at how many people seem to have thought it was a serious post. There is no way I would want us to buy James. If we had gone ahead and spent £60m on him that really would have ruined my moning. And as I said above in an effort to alert those who thought I was seriously gutted, I would find it hard to believe Mourinho would want him - even at half the price being touted.

Supposedly it's five mil euros a season loan fee. 35 mil euros to sign him. Which is half of what united were rumored to be quoted by RM.

I imagine Muller will be competing with Lewandowski to lead the line, and Rodriguez will be competing with Thiago for the attacking midfielder role. With Robben, Coman and possibly Sanchez on the wings that is a pretty strong attacking line up, maybe a good bet for CL.
