Well that time is near. Our record goal scorer is about to leave.

Regardless of what people say about the last few seasons Rooney has been immense since he joined.

He's played in countless positions and been for me one of my favourite players to play for united.

Our all time goal scorer and England's all time goals scorer.

And I hope he 're captures his form a scores plenty for Everton. Just not against us.

A great, great player. His legacy will be tarnished, for those who remember, by his transfer requests and greed. Nevertheless, fabulous servant over the years.

Shame he broke Sir Bobby's record.

Thank you Wayne Rooney for what you did for us between 2004 and about 2012. You were a joy to watch when you signed, but being a poor professional caught up with you and you peaked far too early.

I can't say I'm not happy that he is finally moving on, but I wish him the best for the future. Let's remember the young exciting Rooney and not the one we have had to put up with for far too long.

RVN, solskjaer, saha, Forlan, welbeck, chica, rvp, tevez, berbetov, Ronaldo, zlatan, all players who have graced OT and just some of the strike partners that came and went during rooneys 13 years at the club .
Top goal scorer for club and country .
559 games played for united 5th most .

Not many players have given more to united, history will remember him well imo .

Jred

He's not the first and won't be the last to get try and get more money out of the club. I think you will find both Ferdinand and the great Fergie did that with the latter helping the Glaziers take control of our club. So I completley agree with your point.

It doesn't matter if you like him or loathe him as his record in a United shirt is pretty damn impressive. Yes he's done things wrong and maybe he's not morally correct all the time but we are all guilty of doing things wrong.

Other players have done things wrong and don't get the abuse Rooney seems to get. let's not forget Eric jumping into the crowd to punch a fan, albeit a low life. All of that is forgotten when we remember Eric so maybe we should not have double standards and do the same for Rooney.

Manchester United all time record scorer. Gave everything on the pitch and had a wonderful United career.

08 Jul 2017 18:55:56
And he was handsomely rewarded financially for being here this past 13 years, Chorlton, more than he should have been the past 4-5 years so we are quite within our right to remember him as we wish. Now he won't be here taking a squad place and big wages a younger or better player could have, I will try to remember the good but can't forget the bad too.

I remember SAF well, but the whole horse thing and sale of the club means he isn't quite the god to me that others see him. Ferdinand too, he was a very good defender for us, but I don't see him as anything more than that, concentration went too often for me but he had vidic to help him out too.

08 Jul 2017 19:08:54
How much pay Rooney negotiated is of little interest to me. In any event, it's perfectly fair as a contract runs out for a successful player to get more wages. It's often cheaper for the club than paying a transfer fee for a new player on top of a new set of wages. The club could have let him go. They didn't have to pay it. They didn't have to fail to replace any of their best players with those of the same stature and quality. Rooney may be past his best, but no one can doubt his contribution to the club.

08 Jul 2017 19:11:07
Yeah fair point Brendan we can all remember him how we like and i suppose there is not much i can say to that really as its up to you what you think of him.

Actually you have just made me dislike him again!

Nice to see people can see beyond Fergie's trophies and actually say when he's been out of order.

As for Ferdinand I bet you would still find a place for him in our current side!?

08 Jul 2017 19:19:46
All players who play for man United are well paid, the club makes a lot of money and are in a very good position to judge what a player is worth to them .

I don't care about what fergy done with his horse I care what he did in his role at united .

Footballers, managers, sportsmen in general are just people, the bloke who works down my local shop is probably a nicer person than many footballers, most if not all doctors and nurses do a better job .
As a fan I just judge a united player on what they do as a footballer and what they have done for united .
Just because they can kick a ball doesn't mean there some kind of special person .

Rooney got paid more than most, then again he played more games scored more goals and won more than most so he prob deserved it .

08 Jul 2017 19:20:37
I don't doubt his contribution between 2004 and 2012 ish, and let him off the first time he played the club for a bumper contract. It's the years after that and the second time that I have a problem with. He isn't the first and he isn't the last I know that, and I blame SAF and Moyes as much as Rooney for the second time, as the club was left in a mess, with weak management.

But, had he been a good professional during his career he may have taken the second contract and carried on playing great football for us, and may have earned the pay rise. In reality, he was finished at the top when he signed it and has been garbage since.

Anyway, good luck Mr Rooney, but I am glad to see you go, even if it is 4-5 years too late.

08 Jul 2017 19:45:28
He was a very good cb Chorlton so of course, but to me he wasn't as good as people make him out to be. Depends how the new boy does though.

08 Jul 2017 20:00:36
Yeah let's hope he's better than Ferdiand and we have a great season.

08 Jul 2017 20:10:23
Good and bad for me .
I remember the stick Giggs and evra got on this site towards the end .
For me if they have a united shirt on they get my support .
Same goes for the club to be honest supported united for a lot of years when we where pretty average .

I can't just support a player or the club when there playing well.
Or really just support the top players .

During the last 13 year which is an achievement in its self he has done a lot, more than most .
I think he will be remembered and judged on what he did do at united when people look back at his careera.

08 Jul 2017 19:39:21
ken will be gutted lol.

08 Jul 2017 20:33:40
Love Rooney . Don't think we will see another like him for a very long time . A bit of a crappy exit though 😔😔.

08 Jul 2017 21:02:08
There's been a video doing the rounds on twitter, highlights from Rooney's debut against Fenerbache. 13 years later I still remember it, and it still gives me goosebumps. He'll be remembered as the legend he deserves to be. Our record scorer, and a part of probably the best front 3 to have graced modern football.

08 Jul 2017 21:43:48
Jred, when they are on the field every single player has my 100% support, including Rooney the past 4-5 years. I've even defended him whenever I've heard supporters of other clubs, city mainly, slag him off, because that is what you do with your own. But, when amongst my fellow reds I feel I can give my honest view and that is what I do.

Never have I boo'd or slated a player in red while on the field and I never will. They need our 100% support. But, if they have let their lifestyle get in the way of their profession when we are paying silly money, then they lose my respect and 100% support off the field. From 2012 he hasn't been good enough which is all his doing, he hasn't deserved the support he has had, in my eyes.

08 Jul 2017 23:12:46
Remember being so excited when we signed him (well, as excited as a man of my age can ever be) . Remember the goal he scored for Everton against Arsenal? The lad looked like a future world-beater. Maybe he was unfairly compared to Ronaldo, but I never felt he totally fulfilled all our hopes for him. It's no secret I felt let down by him on a couple of occasions, and maybe even it was even just his Scouse accent grating on me (:) ), but still a great player in his prime, and he's never gave anything less than 100% in a Utd shirt, even when his powers were waning. So thanks for many good memories, lad, and good luck at your real home.

08 Jul 2017 23:23:12
Favourite 3 Rooney goals are -

Newcastle, for the pure fact that one minute he's giving the ref an ear bashing then screaming a volley into the top corner.

City, because of the obvious. Pure class to pull that off in the derby.

AC Milan, the last minute winner in the semi final. Hits it first time from a Giggsy pass. Totally unexpected.

What a player he was in his earlier years. Not always done things the right way but I will definitely remember him for the goals.

Brendan
Really, because on the live chat certain players get nothing but abuse before ko and then all through the game .
Then continued all week on the banter page .

09 Jul 2017 10:27:53
A great player in his prime. A scorer of great goals and also a great goal scorer that's not a combination you find in many players.
Sure he could have been better but so could cantonna.
I don't hate rooney i hate the fact that he has been kept long after he was of any major significance and influence on the pitch.

09 Jul 2017 11:24:22
Last post on this and then I'm done, as is Rooney 😉. While at a United game I have never ever boo'd or got on the back of any player, Rooney included. Those that boo'd Fellaini are a f*cking joke, you don't do that at a game when a player, no matter how you feel about them, needs your 100% support, for the good of the team as a whole, if nothing else.

The live chat can get a bit tedious with constant moaning, which is why I don't go on too much, especially if the game isn't going great. Watching united the past 3-4 years has been difficult enough at times without being further depressed listening to people moan on about everything and everyone. I have, though, been guilty of getting frustrated on there myself at times when I see someone giving less than they are capable of. But as I say, I feel I can give my honest opinion when in the presence of fellow reds, so I usually have a moan and then come off live chat as the constant moaning does get you down 😃.

Anyway, goodbye Mr Rooney, it was great for many years, not so great for others and now you are with your boyhood club, enjoy and try and be a bit more professional for the final years of your career.
