Most disappointing football news so far is Josh Harrop leaving to Preston NE. I don't understand the logic of this at all. He had so much ability and is one of our own. He celebrated like he won the lottery when he scored against Palace.
Very disappointing to be selling such talent.

He was free to go and decided to go.

24 Jun 2017 00:21:27
Who's logic don't you understand? The player or the club?

He was offered a contract and decided to leave, he's 22 and had one game, he did well in that game but he is never going to be first choice at United, fair play to him for wanting more from his career.

24 Jun 2017 00:38:59
Talent pre or post Crystal Palace?

{Ed007's Note - This thread is exactly what I've been saying about Utd's youngsters for years. Mark my words, Rashford will go the same way.}

24 Jun 2017 00:59:15
This post is ridiculous. If he was any good he'd be playing every week and he would have moved to somewhere better than Preston.

Totally ridiculous.

24 Jun 2017 07:53:08
He had scored a lot of goals from midfield for the reserves. He demonstrated more passion in one game than Martial did all season.
When he takes off at PNE and is worth a lot of money then we'll have the same scenario as pogba Keane etc.
Eric, your post is utterly ridiculous. Just because he's not played it doesn't mean he's not good enough. Mourinho tried to stick with experience in midfield. He had Mata mkhiki in that position but we always need creativity and energy and he has both.
Time will tell but I agree with ed007. We're selling our youngsters who have done so well in the reserves without giving them a real chance.

24 Jun 2017 07:59:14
They have to be good enough. All very nice having youngsters in the first team but being mid table with a shiny set of principles is not acceptable. Harrop has gone to Preston not Chelsea, that should tell you something. At least the club was not hanging on to them too long. He may blossom late and it can happen but you have to let them play to find out.

The same goes for all players, youth or bought there is a standard and if they don't meet it then they will go.

24 Jun 2017 09:03:26
Playing well for the reserves is one thing. I'm sure that would have been rewarded with opportunities to train with the first team to try and earn a place in the squad. For all we know he didn't impress enough then, and if he had he'd have had more than one first team appearance in a dead rubber of a game under his belt at 22.

Good luck to the lad at Preston.

24 Jun 2017 09:17:17
Schmid,

Would you have posted this if he didn't play and score against palace?

24 Jun 2017 09:59:42
Schmid if one of us gets to play a game for utd we too most likely would have played with more passion than martial showed last season but that doesn't mean we should be picked, there is a reason why lvg did not pick him despite his penchant for giving a debut to every young kid possible, why he is signing for a midtable championship side with no other team interested, why he is nearly 22 and has played only 1 senior game for us, never even going out on loan, he just isn't good enough.

24 Jun 2017 10:51:35
Discount. Of course . Harrop impressed immensely in the reserves. He will impress for PNE and we will regret not offering him a goid enough contract and more game time.
As I said, only time will tell, £50m should buy him back in two years time!

24 Jun 2017 11:05:38
Schmid your talking nonsense mate.
1 you have no idea if there is a buy back or sell on clause
2 he has not been good enogh to compete for a position in midfield
No idea hiw much reserves you watched but he has not stood out un last 18 months
3 he does not want to stay and fight for his place
4 he was offered a good contract.
5 you said similar abiut pearson and lawarance.
Hope he has a good career but i doubt will be laminating the fact wee sold him.

24 Jun 2017 11:33:51
schmid if he was going to be worth 50mn in 2 years i am sure someone better than a club who finished 11th in championship would have signed him. But yeah you are right he is going to be the next messi all the stupid epl clubs including us who let him go will regret this all their life.

24 Jun 2017 12:11:00
He's actually 10 days or so younger than Martial with a third of the talent. I repeat if he was any good he'd be moving to a better side than Preston, or he'd be playing for us.

24 Jun 2017 09:17:12
ED007 I agree with you. It's a case of Utd buying quality players who the club have paid a premium for over players from the academy who have cost nothing so to speak.
The club will hardly bench a £40-£60 million player to give a young academy player game time.
Also there will be pressure from the sponsors for named players to play.

24 Jun 2017 12:47:48
Cant disagree with any of those points ken. Bang on with all.

Hallop, just not good enough I'm afraid.

There was no doubt about pogbas talent and potential at the time and that was a contract dispute. Keane was looking at rio, vidic, Evans, smalling, Jones, all ahead of him and he did the right thing.

A player can't be forced to stay when he isn't 1st choice. Harrop did the right thing.

24 Jun 2017 15:19:24
Thanks Ken. And 9f course you know all the points you have made are true! Did you mean to say lamenting or laminating!

24 Jun 2017 15:48:53
Which youngsters have we sold that are now top class players somewhere else?

The club offered Harrop a contract in keeping with their assessment of his probable contribution and prospects. It was rejected by the player in favour of one that presumably will give him more regular playing time. The great shame is not that we are letting our youngsters go but that so very few of them are talented enough to compete at the highest echelons of the game.

As for Rashford, time will tell. If he continues to develop, and starts banging in 20+ goals a season in a team that's winning trophies, he will stay. If not, he will probably be off. But in any event, the sentimentality is disingenuous. Everybody would be complaining bitterly if we were languishing in the bottom half of the table with a team made up of local lads. We may not like it, but the EPL is a very different league to the one that existed in 1992 when United had only 3 players from overseas in the squad, one Dane, one Frenchman, and one Russian, and no one from southern Europe or South America. I think only 2 of them were black.

24 Jun 2017 17:20:18
Lamenting schmid😂 i van think of a couple of players In the squad that play like their laminated but let's not get into that😂😂.
