The number 7 is notably absent from our squad at the same time we are missing that player who gets everyone in the stadium on their feet when they get on the ball.

So for a bit of fun who will be our next number 7?

{Ed004's Note - I'm going to mention someone outside the box here but what about Griezmann?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Can he cut it on a cold rainy night in Stoke though Ed?

{Ed004's Note - Hopefully. Must say the rumours of Perisic have gotten me slightly worried but I trust Jose knows what he needs}

28 May 2017 10:54:06
Number 10 and 9 to missing soon?
Would Rashford get the 9 or 10? Or would Martial be happy if he got the 9 back and vacated 11?

Perisic worries me as well - never rated him too highly, Jose doesn't get my trust yet, Torres, Shevchenko, Cuadrado, Crespo, etc, very hit and miss with big money.

Griezzman was made for a miserable night in Stoke, don't let the flare mislead, he is a real workhorse and Simeone has installed some great teamwork ethics. Sanchez would be my next signing for an attacking berth, or both in a perfect world.

If Shaw can sort his head out then that means we don't need a LB. Two attackers like that, a solid CB and somebody like Bakayoko in midfield would mean we are sorted for a title push even with Otto Mann at the helm.

{Ed004's Note - The more I think about it the more you worry about how much work needs done to the squad and not sure it can be done in one window. So short terms fixes like Perisic might be needed. Gk is the only position we're we are fine currently. Right back needs improved upon as although Valencia has had a great year he doesn't offer enough going forward and needs cover at the bare minimum, we are short at cb and ideally 2 are needed however it's likely only one will come in, we don't have a good enough left back and I don't think Shaw can be trusted to stay fit for a full season, we are lacking a holding midfielder, we haven't had a right winger all season (whoever plays there cuts in), Martial has had a poor year and we are lacking a striker if Ibra goes. So much could be fixed if certain players step it up another level such as Shaw, Mkhitaryan, Martial and Rashford but how much faith will Jose put in them}

Would like to see alexis Sanchez and Costa bought. I'll give no7 to sanchez.

{Ed004's Note - Its Griezmann plus 1 for me. But think that 1 needs to be either a top player or one who is going to be one. He could be a right winger if Griezmann is to play centrally in a 4231 or as a striker in a 433 or a striker if Griezmann is to play from the right coming inside then a central player. So someone like Bale, Bernardo Silva (would have been excellent), Sanchez, Costa, Belotti, Lukaku (not sure on). We are fine on the left side as Martial, Mkhitaryan and Rashford can all cover there}

004 I think we need a naturally left sided player as well. Having players "who can cover" one of our most important positions won't be good enough against Europe's elite.

Rashford, Martial and Micky have proved this season that they actually cannot play that position.

{Ed004's Note - I think Martial and Mkhitaryan are good enough to play there. At the very least they are good options compared to at right back, left back etc}

I think we are ok for RB due to the more urgent areas as you say, Valencia is solid enough, Darmian, Bailly, Jones, Smalling, youngsters ample cover and he is pretty tough. I appreciate we will likely sell some of those mentioned, but we are ok for cover at RB. Decent cover for CB with youth as well, but 1 is essential, 2 is ideal.

LB is a real conundrum. I think Jose has to commit 100% here, either say Shaw is my #1 and play him every week and shut up bitching about him to the press. Or sell him. Probably sell him as he isn't to be trusted, but depends on budgets.

CM is a must, two wide players are a must as well. Especially if they can operate as a striker along with Martial, Rash, then we don't need to spunk £50m+ on an out and out striker.

Depending on Ibra's injury, might be worth extending by 6 months and sending him to the USA in the New Year. Probably wouldn't be happy with that though, but a striker in our system isn't as important because they are barely in games. It's the wide players and having them all float.

I'd love to be in charge of this window, it would be phenomenal what can be achieved here as we have so many areas to strengthen, so many squad players to move on and lots of money to spend - almost like a clean slate.

{Ed004's Note - A lot will depend on who we can move on and get money for as well. We already have the 40 million received in January and all of Darmian, Smalling, Jones, Blind, Fellaini, Young, Rooney, Mata and Januzaj are at risk of being sold. Ideally I think we need a rb (can compete with valencia), cb (to replace one of jones/Smalling), lb (to compete with Shaw), cdm, Griezmann and either a striker or winger depending on Griezmann's position. Ideally, Semedo, Lindelof/Van Dijk, Mendy/Aaron Martin, Dier/Fabinho, Griezmann and not sure on the last player. In a dream world Sanchez or Bale for out wide and Belotti or Lukaku up top but will probably be Perisic - although supposed 35 milllion euros seems a lot better price wise}

Nothing I've seen of Perisic fills me with confidence at all. Very average player. Sanchez would be the one for me.

I think priority needs to be an out and out RM. we haven't had one for what seems like forever. I'm not sure who the answer is.

I'd love VVD at CB alongside Bailly, so much pace, power and athleticism in that partnership.

Agree with Beast about Shaw. Jose needs to put up or shut up. I personally hope he makes it, comes back after his injury a stone or two lighter and gets his head down.

CM it's evident we need someone to sit in there to allow Pogba to flourish. As much as I'd love Kroos he's not exactly what we need but is a perfect replacement for Carrick.

{Ed004's Note - The only world class right winger I can think of is Bale but he seems happy at Madrid and I can't see us having the funds to sign him and Griezmann that's why Bernardo seems like a big miss. I agree with VVD and Bailly. I think they could form an awesome partnership. VVD seems more restrained, brilliant on the ball and excellent in the air. He seems to be ideal for Bailly but I'd worry about the cost. Shaw isn't fit until atleast September apparently. Therefore I think we need a left back and Shaw can compete with him. We will play a lot of games next season again and I'd like to see us alternate our full backs the way Shaw does. I really like the idea of Dier. He's very underrated on here imo. If we could add Dier and Van Dijk it would also significantly improve us at set pieces along side Pogba and Bailly}

28 May 2017 13:10:58
Agree Ed, VVD is very calm in the ball, talks to the defence and that is exactly what we need.

Bale once again is a left footer on the right. I really can't think of an out and out RM that we could bring in. I think Mane was a huge miss for us especially at the price paid.

Out and out wingers are becoming a rare breed.

{Ed004's Note - Very few teams play with out and our wingers. Full backs are tasked with the job of providing the width. However, having players quick enough to go on the outside and good on the ball to drive inside is what makes teams like Madrid, Bayern and Barcelona so dangerous}

28 May 2017 17:11:47
For me. We need a rb to compete with Valencia, samedo is my choice.
We need to sell Shaw if anyone is stupid enough to pay a lot of money for him. Need to buy Mendy or Rose for that position.
Need two centre backs, lindelif and Keane or verane and get rid of smalling and Jones.
Holding midfield will be nice to get bakoyoko to replace Carrick.
Centre midfield, I would love either Matuidi or fabinho.
No10, greizman.
Winger Costa or Perisic.
Centre forward, I think Kane will be the ultimate but I don't think that'll happen. I really like Belotti as he's strong, fast and knows how to finish.
So outgoings will be Shaw Jones smalling Fellaini Rooney Darmian and zlatan if he's not fit.

{Ed004's Note - I would keep Shaw and sell Blind tbh. Shaw has far more potential and I'm hoping Jose was challenging him this season. Full back options of Semedo/Valencia and Mendy/Shaw would be amazing but I think Mendy is unfortunately City bound. I'd restrict cb to one incoming so we can focus our efforts elsewhere however Bailly and Lindelof/Varane/VVD would be excellent and something to build on. Hopefully De Gea stays, Griezmann comes in, we sign a holding midfielder and give Periera some game time and finally an attacker comes in. So 6 signings all in}

I find myself not too much at odds with Beast's views above.
Am I unwell? Should I see a doctor as a matter of urgency?
I am worried.
