Question for ed002.
Ed clubs often sign players to a new deal and then sell them inn the following widow. Or give a player a new contract when he only has 1 year leftand then sell him shortly afterwards.
My question is why do more players or agents not refuse to sign these new contracts as it appears to weaken their position and ends up costing the buying club a lot more.
I note below you said it has no chance of happening with the Milan keeper.
Surely if he does not sign a new contract next summer him and his agent would be in a position to earn a lot more from a new club if he is a free agent.
Just wondering why more players don't take advantage of being a free agent? Cheers. K.

{Ed002's Note - Because most are responsible people who don't wish to try and find a way to cheat their employers out of a transfer fee.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I accept that ed. Although it's hardly cheating their employers out of anything if the club wanted they could give security of 10 year contacts but choose not to.
Consider g so. e unscrupulous agents I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often. Thanks for the quick response.

{Ed002's Note - No they can't offer 10 year contracts.}

Really ed what's the max length they can offer?

{Ed002's Note - Five years.}

Thanks ed. I still don't see it as cheating their employer but it's perhaps morally incorrect particularly if they have been treated well by their employer.
But clubs do give contracts to managers and sack them so they are not always on the best moral footing themselves at times with regards to employee loyalty.

{Ed002's Note - Sacking a manager is not a moral matter Ken.}

It's not your correct mate but it's hard to expect employee loyalty when it's not always given to all employees.

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure where this "employee loyalty" comes in to it either. Your suggestion is that Manchester United should make an approach to player's agent to propose a means to get that player on the cheap and to cheat his club out of a transfer fee. If they do that then fine - but why would any club look to ever do any busines with Manchester United at all after that?}

That's not accurate at all ed002 when have I suggested that?
I merely asked why don't players take advantage of the being a free agent more often than signing new contracts only to be sold to the advantage of their employer soon after.

Isn't there a current example of this type of stand off with Barkley at Everton?

{Ed002's Note - No.}
