Seems to be quite a bit of doom and gloom on here at the moment what with some of the results lately and I completely understand many of your points of view. But I'd just like to play the optimistic card and point out that we've had a very good season in comparison to others of late.

We are still in a position where we could finish in 3rd place, although granted this is no easy task.

We've won the charity shield and league cup.

We got knocked out of the FA Cup in the latter stages by arguably the top performing team in the league and we are in the semi finals of the europa league.

In my eyes that's not a bad 1st season for Mr Mourinho. Take a bow sir and I for one am very much looking forward to this seasons climax.

We are the only major team that bothered with the League Cup and we are seemingly paying the price for lack of rotation now. BAD MANAGEMENT.

Charity Shield - Friendly, who cares aside from desperate manager/ players/ fans to try and claim any kind of success as progress.

The FA Cup we won last year. FAILED

The Europa League we have been very poor in, but somehow managed to get past some very average teams. Only reason anyone is bothered about the Europa cup is because it's a back door into the CL, Mickey Mouse cup for teams like Utd in all honesty. Look who we have played in it and that should tell you about the quality of that competition. Hard to watch us in this, awful.

The widely accepted fiasco that was LVG managed to accumulate 66 points last season, we are currently on 65 points with very hard games to play and we signed 4 very good players in the summer. NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Never mind take a bow, more like take a pay cut and take a long hard look at your performance this season Jose! Just my views of course, but how anybody can see this season as a success is clutching at straws imo.

Most importantly the football has been awful to watch more often than not and there is no excuse for that as results haven't even come as part of it.

I get the impression that even if they had won every game this season you'd still find something to complain about Beast. Each to their own I suppose.

Not really TopBomin. Just finding it extremely difficult to agree that this year has been a success in any way shape or form. I'm looking at what has happened as opposed to what may happen mate. We have all been bitten by the "it takes time" line far too recently.

There have been a couple of positive moments for sure, but on the whole "underwhelming" best sums it up for me. If we ever do get back to the standards that we should be operating at I would love to see the joy on here, it really would be nice to see justifiable praise. But at the minute I honestly have never witnessed so much praise for rank averageness. I wish I was on here in 2008/ 9 time, many of the comments I read now would be justified for that period in our history, but it's just sad now how far our standards have slid.

A 1-0 win now is treated like a 5-0 win of 10 years ago. If you go by some of the comments a 3/ 10 performance is viewed as an 8/ 10. It depresses me, many of us seem to have forgotten what Man Utd stands for and are too quick to throw excuses around. Support the team through thick and thin, but let's not lie to ourselves about how well we are doing compared with how well we SHOULD be doing.

Prozac for bed number 3 please nurse 😆😆.

The sensible option would be to wait until the end of the season and take stock, we still have a good chance at making top four we also have a chance at winning the uefa cup, I get the impression that one or two would actually sack Jose now! He's had one season In charge next season we will be stronger he's not lost his touch let's see what next Season brings.

{Ed004's Note - Even if we get neither I think we need to keep Jose. We need to start building again for the future and bringing back some stability. We are a window or two away from having a very competitive squad}

01 May 2017 20:57:32
Most of us would have had this squad winning or at least coming close the the title this season in fairness.

No way will he be sacked of course, but the problem is giving him a war chest and then having to start all over again next summer if we get another poor season.

I think the Sponsorship terms are going to start affecting us soon as well if we don't qualify for CL, so this could be a make or break window in many ways.

{Ed004's Note - It might be the best time to bring in a director of football because our signings have been very poor but hopefully Jose will get it right this time}

01 May 2017 21:01:03
Fair enough Beast. I can agree with that but you must admit we've lost our identity to some degree since fergie left and I feel this season has seen us take a good step towards regaining that position at the top. Also agree with Ed that certainly for now, Mourinho is the future of this club and he's done a damn site better than the other turkeys we've had at the helm. Again like Ed has said we're not far from challenging for top honours again.

The one thing we've all got in common is that's exactly where we all want to be.

01 May 2017 21:11:44
Good man TopBomin. It was a big task and the flops before Jose didn't make it any easier. But we are paying for the best and he hasn't delivered yet. Some people see good signs, others like me see dejavu unfortunately.

We all want what's best and as Ed004 says, maybe a DOF could be the step needed to help. Good night guys.

01 May 2017 21:12:39
I think it has been a very decent FIRST season under mourinho.

Complaints about outspending others and still finishing outside the top 4 - everyone knew we overpaid for pogba by a huge margin as we weren't his first choice club and desperate for a big name, rest of the signings really can't complain. Also the quality brought in instead of improving the squad was negated by the failings of previous managers signings and some ageing and average squad players.

I would love for us to win the europa and enter CL rather than just finishing top 4 ( WITHOUT CHALLENGING FOR THE TITLE) winning the europa would give us something to cheer about and look forward to the next season.

Complaing about the style of football being played is a decent argument but when we hired mourinho we knew what we were going to get. Instead of blaming mourinho and call for his sacking i would blame the ones sitting above making decisions as to which direction they want the club to head in the future.

For me it will still be a decent season even if we don't finish out of the top 4 and the win europa with the amount of injuries at present.

I think it would be fair to call for his sacking if we are in this same position next year and i would be very worried about the future of this club.

01 May 2017 21:18:08
This season remains on a knife edge in terms of ending very well or extremely disappointingly.

Some very challenging games to come, made all the more difficult with our injuries and fatigue, with Jose almost looking and sounding more tired than the players at times!

Anything can still happen with regards Europa and top four.
What I will say lads is don't expect to see much in the way of exciting, attacking football from us at this business end. If we get there it will be through sheer grind and slog.

01 May 2017 21:52:01
At this stage of the season, Rave, I'll take sheer grit and slog. I'm past caring about entertaining football. Just get top 4, and hopefully we can kick on from there.

01 May 2017 22:22:36
I hear you noucamp but let's be honest most of our wins have been grit and slog this season, much of our best football has ended up in draws.
But I agree I'd take anything to get into champs league now.

Depressingly just seen the closing stages of the scousers all but sealing their place in the top 4 if not top 3 (preferring the snooker of course) . Hate to say it but great achievement considering the relative strength of their squad compared to ours and city's (no european games of course) .
Rather city miss out on champs league than them to be fair, as city have far more potential to build a very dangerous team next season. Trouble is I can't see us getting more than 2 or 3 points over the next two away games. Really hope we can do the business against celta, we certainly won't do it the easy way.

01 May 2017 22:25:52
I think we need to wait until the end of the season to evaluate. Personally, at the beginning of the season I thought we would be challenging for the title and not taking the Europa League seriously. I really would love to see a statistic of how many substitutions J.

01 May 2017 22:37:07
No way anyone should be sacking mourinho. He's a top manager and has to be given time. 3 years minimum.
Injuries have been a problem and they destabilise team.
I'll take any win but I do hope we go and attack Celta as we're good enough to finish the tie in the first leg.

01 May 2017 22:38:47
we need to wait until the end of the season to evaluate. but personally i was expecting United to challenge for the title and not take the Europa League seriously this season. trimming the squad mid way through season had started has come to bite them on the backside.

01 May 2017 23:02:33
Put it this way chaps, I would take 7 of the most boring 1-0 wins in the history of football for our last 7 games, if offered that now. I couldn't give a rubbish about style at this stage of a season. Points win prizes not style.

02 May 2017 05:04:08
Beast, all what you say, does constant chopping and changing the manager and having to accommodate an entirely new backroom staff and playing staff have no repercussions? 2008-09, SAF was in charge for 20 years almost, the playing staff was constant, the back room staff knew in and out of each player. How long has Jose been here? Give yourself a break mate.

02 May 2017 07:42:46
Shan, "the back room staff knew in and out of each player".

There's coaches getting arrested for that sort of thing, mate :)

02 May 2017 08:01:17
Jose doesn't usually last for more than two or three years as he pushes the players/ causes friction so they eventually hate him.

However, in that time, he wins things and would Kay the foundations for a longer term manager (Allegri? ) to come in and soothe players/ make final tweaks.

02 May 2017 09:07:48
Wasn't LVG laying foundations too?

02 May 2017 10:40:11
It all sounds very similar to the end of lvgs first season.

02 May 2017 14:51:30
LVG was just as close to getting is back. FA Cup and losing out on top 4 by goal difference. Terrible football tho.
