And to think he tried to play on with that injury, hats off to him for his bravery.
Tuanzebe or fosu-mensah should be able to get some game time though which is a positive.

I think Smalling and Jones need to leave. They are never fit, and we always end up playing carrick or others in defense.
Rojo got injured because of the amount of games he had to play. We as a club with the amount of matches we play a season, need to have players who can rotate and help.

That's a bit harsh. Jones I accept but Smalling hasn't been injured often. As for Carrick, he stood in but I don't remember it being a regular thing.

is smalling good enough ajh, jones has actually performed decent enough when he was fit, smalling on the other hand, according to ed002 we want giminez, if he comes in he will be first choice alongside bailly, with rojo on bench, i think smalling and jones's careers at utd are good as over when a new cb comes in.

Smalling is an exceptional backup CB. He has had a very poor season though, he never kicked on and now I fear he will never reach the level he threatened to reach.

I would hope Smalling would have more ambition than sitting on the bench and collecting his pay packet with an odd outing in the league cup.
Better to be first choice for west brom or Bournemouth surely.

I think we will see BIG changes in the summer!
Next season will be a 'Jose' team, mainly defensive changes and a carrick replacement!

If we get Gimenez, lindelof or Keane then surely Rojo as 3rd choice and TFM or one of the other youngsters would be good enough for 4th choice.

Hopeful of Keane, but Gimenez is one Decent defender and would definitely spell the end of Jones, Smalling and Rojo.

dodgy only thing smalling is exceptional at is being exceptionally rubbish, he looked good under lvg because lvg played football to protect blind and smalling, the minute we attacked with cb's left to do their own jobs we leaked goals.

Jones and Smalling are injured too often to be part of the squad. Jones is the better player but has missed too much football. Smalling should be a beast but he isn't and has a lack of concentration.
Blind is not a CB or a LB and according to Jose he is also not a midfield player.
So all three of them have to go for me.
Ibra and Rooney to leave.
Possibly one or two others to go as well.
Hope TFM and Tanzuebe get game time and become regular squad members for next season.
Jose is really challenging the players. Comments to Shaw and then his positive reaction. Now comments to Jones and Smalling that they need to get back into the team at the beginning of May.
He is weeding out those that are not up to it and also letting the players know about the required attitude, level of performance and commitment required.
I questioned his man management previously but now I see that in his own way he is creating a winning mentality at the club. At the end of the day Fergie was uncompromising and in total charge. Jose is just doing the same.
Believe we will challenge at the top of the PL next season.

Smalling showed quite a lot of promise when he first came to the club and looked like a natural successor to Ferdinand but somewhere along the way and I don't know why he lost the abilities that made me think he might be a Utd great, Phil Jones style of play was always going to ensure he wouldn't feature as a mainstay of the team and his injury proneness has hampered any improvement he might have made.
