Another match thrown away by Fellaini. Granted there were many people to blame for not easily winning that match, but he is put on to help close out matches and again he is a horrific defender. He fell asleep for their goal and I am in shock that anyone would still consider him a defensive presence. Mourinho is following the lead of moyes and lvg, rely on a horrendous player like Fellaini, you lose your job. And JM must be the only person on earth who doesn't see how much Fellaini kills this team week in week out.

Fellaini is too often the easy scapegoat. Can't put the shortcomings of a team down to one or two individuals. Some people seem determined to dislike certain players.

13 Apr 2017 22:19:14
KG, that's a pretty dreadful post. We should have killed them off long before the 86th minute, none of which was Fellaini's fault. As it is we have drawn away and scored which still leaves us in a good position. But hey, let's slag one of our players off.

13 Apr 2017 22:17:59
Maybe it is down to our own finishing.

13 Apr 2017 22:23:00
Infuriating! 😤😤😤

That was shaping up to be a very professional European away performance.

I thought Carrick and Pogba were magnificent in central midfield.

I'm very disappointed with Fellaini's role in the equaliser. He should be getting back and heading that away that's why he's been brought on. I think that whilst we've got him in our squad it's always going to be too much of a temptation to bring him on either to help defend a lead or to pump the ball forward when we need a goal. Unfortunately the bloke it's far more likely to give a free kick, penalty or mistake away away rather than score a goal or have a positive impact on the game. It's unfair to single him out tonight but when he's brought on to do a job and he's regularly found wanting it's so frustrating. I hope we sell him in the summer and buy a proper footballer rather than us continuing to have faith in a player who only gets a game because of his height.

We're playing football not basketball!

{Ed004's Note - Or give his role to Perriera?}

13 Apr 2017 22:23:58
That one on one miss by pogba was poor imo, much more at fault than fellaini for us not coming away with a convincing win.

Also martial was poor when he came on, game was set up for him to kill them on the counter attack and he looked half arsed to me .

13 Apr 2017 22:30:58
I said there were plenty of others to blame, but if fellaini isn't on the pitch we win 1-0. We all know he's useless in the attacking third but he's a complete liability in the defending third. Maybe others should have killed off this match, but we win if fellaini doesn't lose his man.

13 Apr 2017 22:42:46
Not fellainis fault our attackers didn't take their chance like usual but not the end of the world as have a return leg and think we wil beat them easily at home.

13 Apr 2017 22:44:32
On the face of it its not a bad result but once again it should and could have been better.
Ibra was woeful. Too many others were average. Yet we should still have won.
Negative substitutions imo.
Still I'm confidant of going through on the evidence of tonight.
Looking forward to Sunday.
Let's see which of our forward react positively to Jose's criticism.

13 Apr 2017 22:35:03
How is that Fellaini fault, we wasin control and failed to take our chances and was unable to see a lead out.

13 Apr 2017 23:29:06
Welsh Red, Singh,

Fellaini is brought on to either see out a lead and help defend set pieces or alternatively to score a goal from a set piece or be a target man and use his height to either get on the end of a cross or provide a knock down for somebody else. The sad reality is he's not very good at doing either. He's a negative tactic in my opinion and he wouldn't be anywhere near our side if he wasn't 6' 5" and that fact alone is pretty depressing. Fellaini has his uses and would a nuisance playing in a Tony Pulis or Sam Allardyce team but that is his level. If we are to improve we need to stop placing our faith in a player that is not good enough for a team with aspirations to win the top trophies and only gets a game because of his height.

Whilst I don't wish to single Fellaini out you've asked why it was his fault so I'll explain why. We were winning the game 1-0. Forget all the chances we'd had the fact is we were winning. Fellaini was brought on with the sole purpose of ensuring the game finished 1-0 and to head away crosses the like of which they equalised. He fell asleep, lost his concentration and let his man run past him to score. He didn't do his job. All players make mistakes but he's been culpable more that once this season and he's not a safe option to bring on when trying to see out a lead. Please don't take this post as a character assassination I just don't think we'll improve whilst we're relying on Fellaini to either see out a lead or a be direct option to score a goal.

14 Apr 2017 07:04:20
KG blaming Fellaini for that is horrendous.

That game summed up our season, terrible finishing, we do that then it's an easy day at the office.

14 Apr 2017 07:50:11
The key point here as Jose has pointed out is that the game should have been closed out much earlier. I'm no fan of Fellaini but to blame him for the result is ludicrous. If anyone is to blame for a 1-1 draw it is the forwards who should have scored a few more. It's clear from the posts that this is a personal thing for some people. Putting that aside we played well and are on a good positiwith n for next week but let's all find something to moan about.

14 Apr 2017 08:32:51
It was a good performance AJH, but has that not become the story of the season, good performances, plenty of chances but a lack of goals. That lies with the forwards I'm afraid.

Once again too wasteful and I see 1 or 2 attacking players being brought in during the summer window.

14 Apr 2017 08:51:52
While we can't blame Fellaini for everything, he should never be wearing the United shirt as he's simply rubbish. Work it any way you like but he is utter crap.

14 Apr 2017 09:16:29
AJH,

I thought we played well last night and had control of the game. I think it's a touch disingenuous of Jose to blame the forwards for not putting our chances away. The truth is much more complicated. Jose is a pragmatic manager and our wide players spend a lot of time in full back areas and we rarely attack with numbers.

When we do find ourselves ahead Jose often makes defensive substitutions and prefers to hold what we've got rather than look to kill the game by scoring another goal. I always find this a frustrating tactic as it normally just hands the initiative to the other team and stifles our attacking intent. The only way to really kill a game is by scoring goals. If you try and defend a 1-0 lead
the game is always on a knife edge.

The issue I have with Fellaini is he was brought on to see the game out. Jose had settled for 1-0. Fellaini didn't track his man and they equalised. This is not personal he just didn't do his job. Jose has been critical of several players this season yet he continues to make negative substitutions and rely on Fellaini to do a job which he isn't suited.

I'd have much preferred Herrera to come on and played 4-3-3. Carrick holding and allowing Herrera to play alongside Pogba and press the ball further forward winning the ball higher up the pitch which he does so brilliantly. Keep the intensity in our game rather than take it out.

I'd just like us to continue to be positive and that starts with the manger.

14 Apr 2017 09:26:54
I agree with most people on here saying about not taking our chances!

I feel it is our main problem this season.

I actually feel things are not as bad as the extremes would have you think!

1. We really don't have the worst defence record and have been solid even with the chops and changes due to injuries at the back.

( I feel a lot of our goals conceded are due to stalling on the ball or slow decision making are one of the main problems I see is the front lines loss of possession when the team are pushing forwards and then many teams hit us on the counter attack. )

2. This season we are creating a lot of chances and some people may say pogba is not backing up his fee! Yeah it is a large fee but people were praising him when he was at Juventus and i don't see why this has stop as the stats for him show he is bettering chances created and forward passing complete passes than he had had Juventus. The only problem here is at Juventus he had players who actually take advantage of Pogbas created chances but I feel our players are needing more attempts to score which is just down to being clinical.

(Tbh i think Jose hit the nail on the head when he said about Hernandez. That a player like him would have plenty of goals this season. Its true you count how many times Ibra likes to drop deep and try to create but at the end of the day their is plenty of ability in the midfield to do that and he should be up in the box waiting for a ball. I have lost count on the times valencia and other players have broke out wide have the defence on back foot and put a perfect ball across the 6 yard box but yet no one is their for a simple tap in. We seen last night the benefit of Mkhi just being around that area. )

3. I feel jose hasn't done a bad job we have been let down a few times by players just not finishing or seeing out matches. Jose really has had one transfer window (I never count January ones - hit or miss/ Panic buys) to get his own stamp on the team and to me the signings were smart. I say this summer we will look to add a midfielder (maybe carracks replacement) that can sit there and allow for pogba and herrera to do there thing. Perfect world i'd love Verratti or Bakayoko. Next two signings i would have would be based on how current players finish the season. first up Shaw (LB Area) I hold my hands up I'm a shaw fan think when he's on his game he's fantastic but the question is can he get back to that and also can he sustain it? again i'd love a player like alaba of bayern or alba of barca. The last area i'd look to improve if players don't step up is up top. So we have Rashford and Martial (both who i like and have the ability to become great players) then Ibra. Ibra is Ibra he will get you a goal but to me lately it is taking 3 or 4 attempts to get it. In tight games this can hurt you and then we have Martial and Rashford showing signs of what they can do but not always. So i feel we just need that player who can put the ball in the net. A player who can get the scrapy goals and the nice goals. Obvs like everyone I like Griezmann but there are other players who have been banging them in that i'd say would bring us up a level and help with our build up play such as Lacazette, Aubameyang. A player who can link up but also can dribble and run in behind. I do like players like Kane and Lukaku but as we have seen many times before if you don't play to strikers strengths they can easily flop.

Sorry for the long post guys just thought i'd like to put across a few points.

Keep up the GREAT work admins!

14 Apr 2017 10:00:43
Yeah let's blame the one with the scouse haircut that's a good idea. Worst game ibrahimovic has had but it's Fellaini's fault😆😆.

14 Apr 2017 10:06:55
Schmid - 'utter crap'. Well, I guess Jose, LVG, Moyes, and Martinez, not to mention Wenger when Arsenal were sniffing round him when he was at Everton, all experienced football men, know nothing about football, then?

I think Fellaini has been decent this season, and certainly by no means our worst player. But one mistake, and the lynch mob are back. Other players get a bye ball for a poor performance, but the snobs don't give that to Fellaini. They're just waiting for him to have a bad game, for a chance to vent their spleen about him.

I know you're prone to the odd burst of hyperbole, but that comment's just ridiculous.

14 Apr 2017 11:29:14
Fellaini did more coming on as sub than ibrahimovic and Rashford last night. Give the lad a break 😔😔.

14 Apr 2017 11:35:08
the managers negative tactics are to blame.

14 Apr 2017 14:00:22
It's getting harder and harder swallowing some of the crap written on here lately since when was a 1-1 draw away in Europe such a bad result? Are we that arrogant that we think we should steam roll a team who are at the same stage of the same competition as us? And as for the constant scapegoating of our own players and manager it's quite frankly embarrassing it seems in vogue to slag our own club to the high heavens and make kissy eyes at every other club and player.
the live chat which may I point out was a fabulous idea has been tainted by the constant vitriol levelled at our own manager and players and I for one am absolutely sick and tired of reading the same bollocks week after week.

I won't be missed this i know but that's it for me I've had enough of the whole thing so I won't be coming on any more it's too depressing.

14 Apr 2017 14:03:40
James, our disgraceful finishing is to blame. We should have had that game buried. Jose has won all his life deploying these exact tactics. Our players are to blame I'm afraid.

14 Apr 2017 14:24:42
Deano lad take a step back mate don't go leaving the page, I only look at the page daily now as the same bollocks got boring.
Take a back seat and watch the regulars tear into each other. 😂.

14 Apr 2017 14:28:47
Jose has to take some blame, negative tactics, taking rashford off when he was causing them problems, not blaming fellaini but in my opinion it was a backward step and invited pressure, we should have carried on going for another goal and not settled for 1-0.

14 Apr 2017 14:42:04
should have brought on Luke Shaw instead. could have used Jose's brain.

14 Apr 2017 15:56:31
Stevie. Fellaini is utter rubbish. He can't control the ball. He moves like a tank. And he used to score goals but he's stopped. When we lose the ball, he trots back at 1mph.
What has that got to do with "snobs". Now that is a pathetic and ridiculous remark.
We don't see eye to eye but to refer to me as a snob is clearly misguided as you don't know me from Adam and that's the way it's going to stay.
Have a good Easter.

14 Apr 2017 16:38:58
I will always support our players for the 90 mins when i'm at the game but here is exactly the right place to discuss if a player is good enough and fans from all clubs will debate if so and so is good enough for their team so its not snobbery to think a player isn't good enough its just opinion. Its a team game and fellaini was definately one reason we didn't win last night as were a number of our players some more so than others.

14 Apr 2017 16:41:11
NM, I'm talking about a United snob, you eejit, not a real snob. ie. Someone who thinks only certain types of players should play for Utd. 'He's not a Utd player', is the phrase, I believe. Whatever that is.

Aside from my imagined insult, I think the way you talk about Fellaini, a Utd player, is a disgrace.

And I'm Jewish, so Easter means nothing to me. In fact, I think I'll report you for a breach of the neutral posting environment. Good day to you, sir!

14 Apr 2017 17:05:10
And if he's not good enough, what does that say about the judgement of our current manager, who clearly does like him?

14 Apr 2017 17:58:53
He's stopped scoring apparently, despite the fact he scored in the Middlesbrough game a couple of weeks ago. Ignore than though, he's useless.

14 Apr 2017 18:23:54
The only good attribute felllaini has is he follows orders from the manager.
Apart from that he's garbage.
Was he to blame for the result last night, of course not. Its a team game its the team as a wholes fault.
We will win next week anyway so i don't know what the fuss is about.

14 Apr 2017 18:53:53
a lot of attacks on the players. wasnt Rooney lucky he wasn't playing, guaranteed he would have got the blame.

14 Apr 2017 18:42:16
For all those on here blaming Fellaini, no seems to have noticed that their left back ran fifty yards unchallenged before he put the cross in. It was a great cross and an even better header, but no one stopped the cross. It's what Jose slated Shaw for after the Watford away game not getting close to stop the ball coming in.

14 Apr 2017 21:48:46
The team win, lose or draw not an individual.

Fellaini isn't my favourite player and frustrates me but while he wears out shirt I will back the lad.

The goal wasn't his fault and the game should have been put to bed anyway.

14 Apr 2017 22:22:16
It's amazing how some on here are always ripping players to bits. If it's not Rooney it's Fellaini or Pogba. The same guys who last season ripped LVG a new butthole yet here we are few good results away from the top 4 and maybe 2 cups . Who will it be next season . It's funny how we have not heard from MAZE since were unbeaten and don't get me started about Jaimej on live chat he's an embarrassment. I'm old enough to remember the Dochety years when winning the FA cup was a major achievement it truly is astonishing on here sometimes. 😆😆.

15 Apr 2017 11:34:03
Just as well they didn't see us play under Sexton. It would be meltdown on here.

15 Apr 2017 18:05:05
Junction red
2 good posts 2 very good points made imo.

15 Apr 2017 19:41:44
Cheers jred. They'll be thinking we're the same person😀.
