Out of uniteds goal keepers who were deemed not good enough where would you rate sergio? Ie is he better than bartez bosnich foster carroll howard etc. Considering we won titles with some of the above iff ddg left would be crucial to replace him with another no 1 or would you be happy to start next season with serge?

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I'd say no. While Romero is a more than capable back up and would start for possibly the majority of PL sides he isn't good enough to be the permanent number 1 IMO. For me he can look a bit indecisive. At times he's made up for this with a great save but I never feel as confident of a clean sheet when he is in goal compared to having De Gea, Schmeichel or Van Der Sar.

Pretty much every great side over the years has had a great goalkeeper. I wouldn't class Romero as one of the best in the world. Keepers like Handanovic and Leno are top class and probably realistic. Alternatively the likes of Oblak and Donnarumma (who would cost huge money) are two I'd look at. Mind you of them all I'd rather have De Gea stay.

I've said before he's the world's best backup goalie that I can think of (happy to be told otherwise) . It would be a risk to try him out for a full season but I like rewarding loyalty and good performances so I'd be up for giving him a go as long as we can massively strengthen in front of him.

Personally I think he is the best goalkeeper we have ever had who isn't first choice.

With a top defence in front of him I honestly don't think we would be that much worse off.

DDG on average makes maybe a dozen world class saves that no one else could make a season. If we had a better defence in front of him then maybe that number might come down to 5 or 6. If we start scoring more it really won't be that bad.

DDG is good but he still has his weak points. He has improved with areial balls, but it's a long way from a strength of his. He also still isn't commanding enough in his box.

His ability to make saves no one else can cover over these deficiencies.

I think Romero would do a solid job in goal for us. He has never let us down when called on.

I think Cillesen is a the best backup in the world.

I like Romero but I never watch a whole game and feel totally comfortable with him That said after having the top quality of DDG I am not sure i would be that comfortable with any replacement. even watching Neuer who is supposedly the best in the world gives would put me on edge because of his style of keeping.
For me we should go for tried and tested in the PL and get Schmeichel (and yes i know it romantic! ) . I think he has grown as a keeper and let him and Romero fight it out.
